  1. I don't like the idea personally, but it's not a hill I'm willing to die on. If my Scouts insist on having them, I'm not willing to fight a losing battle for the cause of no cellphones when there are other things that matter much more. My PLC consistently keeps the no cell phone rule, but then breaks it rather consistently.
  2. BD I didn't realize you knew the OP and her son.
  3. Ssscout, the pm works only through the website. I sent you one and it went through. Reply by pm if you receive it. You will not see them unless you sign in.
  4. Ladies and Gentlemen. The Private message system appears to be working!
  5. There's a delicate balancing act between being truthful and being mean. What concerns me here is "basically telling the Scout - forget ever attaining rank while I'm Scoutmaster?" This is unauthorized. A scoutmaster cannot add or subtract requirements. As Scoutmasters our method to deal with lazy or low achieving scouts is to mentor and motivate them. To challenge them with new responsibilities. Not belittle them and block their progress through Scouting. I can't pass judgment on this Scoutmaster since I am not privy to both sides of the situation.
  6. SSScout the PM system is down. Private email is the way to go.
  7. I made several requests to get this issue resolved and have heard nothing. I'm not a paid representative of Scouter.com. Just an administrator on the forum. I cannot tell you if or when this issue will be fixed. If it was my unit, I would be done with waiting. I admire your patience. Best of luck in whatever you decide.
  8. Looking forward to seeing it. Posting it in Open Discussion or Camping/High Adventure would be ideal.
  9. I don't believe in fighting fire with fire.
  10. Recently a few new Scouts joined our troop and have food allergies. This has caused my troop to reevaluate how we should handle Scouts with allergies. How does your unit deal with meal planning, food buying and preparation when there are Scouts with allergies in a patrol?
  11. JASM is a youth position for Scouts under 18. For YPT reasons they still use Youth facilities. Assistant Scoutmaster is an adult volunteer position for 18+. People confuse the two and try to make recently aged out 18 year olds JASMs.
  12. Course you do, considering you hate the BSA and think Scouting is a waste of time.
  13. Neither does any other extracurricular then. So why do you let your son participate in them? Study, study, study.
  14. A developer was scheduled to look at it but flaked out. Terry is trying to arrange another developer to look at it. I cannot tell you when that will be. I'm sorry.
  15. My personal email is john94711@yahoo.com You can email me there. I can pass your email to whichever moderator you were working with. As far as I know Personal Messaging is still not working.
  16. Flag them and a moderator will come and get them.
  17. There was supposed to be a developer looking into this issue this week. I'll check with Terry and see if I can get an update about this. I apologize for any inconvenience this has caused you and your unit.
  18. http://scoutmastercg.com/a-visit-with-green-bar-bill/ Came across this. I know some people here will love it as much as I did!
  19. Our Adults eat and camp on the other side of the campsite from the Scouts.
  20. In Webelos, it's up to the Den Leader to help your son participate in the group. (You participating with your son would also help) In Boy Scouts finding a troop that is willing to accommodate him should be high on the priority list. He will want to join a Troop with his friends, and that should also be a priority. Scouting does have a place for kids with disabilities, but some troops are far better at dealing with it than others. I know my unit would love to have a Scout like your son. We've had plenty of Scouts with various disabilities in the Troop. Sometimes they don't stay around for
  21. I'm amazed I got to read this before seeing a flag report on it...... Seriously Basementdweller, I know you don't like AHG. I don't like them either. I grew up in the town they started in. They aren't bad people. Any American Heritage Girl Parent I've met have been nice people. Where did Georgia Mom imply that non Whites are inferior? If anybody on this forum wrote that kind of blatant racism, I'd be happy to use a ban-hammer. I haven't seen it, so I'm not sure where you keep pulling that race card from. I get it, you don't like AHG, GeorgiaMom, white people, wealthy people, som
  22. When a Scout does nothing in a POR I'm inclined to put much of the blame on the Scoutmaster for failing to motivate the Scout. Often Scouts don't know what they are getting into and need to be coached by the Scoutmaster and the older boys. If a Scout gets no feedback on his performance, he assumes everything is ok. When a Scout in my unit has been neglecting his duties, the Scoutmasters in my unit don't go looking for another Scout to do the job, we coach the Scout who's in the POR. We encourage and guide the A(SPL)s to work with that Scout. Isn't that our job? That doesn't invalidate how
