Troop 932's San Francisco Bay Area Council's prayers are with you for a speedy recovery

I completly agree with the last post, that there should have been an activity to with "First Class Emphasis" for the younger boys, it could have been supervised by an older scout that may not be going on the campout

There should be a policy

Bugle, Tks for some good ideas for me to bring back to my troop's PLC. Sounds like you have a good boy-patrol run troop.

Criminal Background Checks
Scoutmaster Ron replied to Twocubdad's topic in Open Discussion - Program
I saw the article also it specifiedonly new volunteers or leaders, I would hope that they (BSA) do background checks on all current ones also. -
captin kirk: Whenever I attended at committee mtg I considered myself as a guest and that I would make sure that the committee chair knew that I had something to present prior to the meeting. I would think (and Bob please correct if I'm wrong) but I would bring my concerns to the S.M. let him address the committee. Currently the ASM's in our troop have seperate meetings aside from committee mtgs. As far as your summer camp incident it should be dealt by the S.M.'s unless or course it something pretty serious.

What was he going to expect? Of course he membership was going to be terminated. These are the rules and he along with everyone else in the BSA must abide. He better be careful his Eagle rank will be next.

Trustworthy

We recently pulled all paper plates, napkings plastic knives forks and any food (ie: hot chocolate mix, pancake mix) from all patrol boxes due to an abuse. We wanted to stressm the importance of mess kits

Atheist leader to be expelled from BSA
Scoutmaster Ron replied to eisely's topic in Issues & Politics
This guy was on a talk show yesterday stating his case. He said that he had believed in God when he became a Boy Scout however during his years as a scout he did not believe their was a god. He went on to state that even during his Eagle Board of Review he stated that he did not believe in God. How this guy ever was awarded his Eagle Scout is beyond me. I guess we can go along with the rules as long as the suit the individual until they dont he wants them changed? He should be removed form the program as well as his Eagle Scout Rank -
Tks very much for this info, It will be very helpful

Thanks LeVoyageur, I'll look foward to it

Le Voyager...I dont know the exact route we are going August 2003 but would like to see your route anything that would take us off main Highways would be great

Good insight and approach to take. I think my first gut reaction would be to be a parent. Not that I would go to that extreme to wake the boys up. But I am guilty of telling the boys what to do and will take a step back and try this approach. Maybe this would be a good time for me to sign up for Wood Badge?

Advancement is only one of the aims of scouting -
This is a great idea, were going to use this as an open house for recruiting

By the way....moms aren't allowed....
Scoutmaster Ron replied to Webelosmom's topic in Open Discussion - Program
"The BSA does not bar females. However it does not require them to be included" Come on Bob, Reading way too much into this. If a Mom wants to go let her go as long as she follows the rules who knows she might be a future ASM and we can all use a few more of these in each troop. Lighten up!! -
The only time limit that I am aware of is the scouts 18th bday. He can start a MB at age 11 and not finish until to be technical the day before his 18th bday regardless of where he started it. Sorry I cant quote book and page numbers.

Is this some kind of record for First Class?
Scoutmaster Ron replied to Zorn Packte's topic in Open Discussion - Program
I would definelty have a problem with this, did his Mom sign off the book? I would speak privatly with the Scoutmaster who should talk to the ASM (Mom) no way should he advance, maybe the Mom needs a clear understanding of how to interpet the requirements, the requirements are quite clear but I guess can be mis-interpeted. Pls keep the board posted as to the outcome -
Am I out of line on this one?
Scoutmaster Ron replied to Quixote's topic in Open Discussion - Program
Bob, I can certainly appreciate what the book says but is says but I think it is best to side w/caution and safety. Tks for the book reference Bob, I will certainly have to review it. I think in todays climate that Natl. definelty must review and modify it. Call me over-protective. I'm sure parents will rest easily if the know there are adults along on the trip.
