  1. Thank You Bob!!..We recently had a hitting incident in which both boys were sent home by our Scoutmaster. I was unaware that it's the troop committee that does the punishment, it would appear that re-reading the Guide to Safe Scouting is in order. Actually I'm just an ASM and will bring this to the attention of our S.M.
  2. We use the two strike policy once the second strike is issued parents are called and the boy goes home immediatly.
  3. Does anyone know of games or patrol competition using the 10 essentials?
  4. Good for you!!! and good for your troop. Build on your success and sell the program..well it kinda sells itself
  5. OGE...I love it can you please send it to me?
  6. Anyone have an idea of some Scoutmasters doing a skit? The Wooden Nickel Patrol is in charge of hosting our next COH in March. Thanks!!
  7. You good to see the boys coming up with these ideas and open to combining patrols
  8. What surprises me is that no one to date has taken this as their luxury item on the show "Survivior" I know it would be mine
  9. Thanks for everyone's input I'm signing up, Just an hour a week...right?...ha ha
  10. Yes I feel the boys and the troop deserve trained leaders, but I guess I'm looking for what does this training have that all the others have not.
  11. I am kicking around the idea of doing Wood Badge this year. I would like to know from others that has attended, Was it worth it? Did it make you a better leader? And what about these tickets?
  12. I suppose that if my son was loud or not listening I wouldnt need to know about it and that the appropriate person in the troop had informed my son that his behavior was not appropriate that would be ok. However if it was more serious than something like that than YES and at the parents meeting I would have said "Thank You for bringing this matter to my attention and that I was not aware of this allthough I was at the meeting and in the future I would appreicate it if it was brought to my attention right away and not presented to me in a forum such as it is being now. This way your letti
  13. The boys in the troop that I am in do 3 a year...popcorn, candy bars and Xmas Tree Recycling
  14. Might be tough keeping things in order with everyone typing at the same time if your going to do this on a Saturday why not invite the Patrol Leaders to your house and discuss what direction you want the troop to go in and how to get others excited about what's happening. Get the patrol leaders on board with what you want to accomplish and have them spread it from there.
  15. I would think that meeting face to face would be much better to relate ideas. I would think it would be difficult to control everyone's typing and keepint control. What is the PLC not making headway on?
  16. I also was Den leader thru Webelos 2 and found that I had to go after troops to schedule visits and outings. Now that I am ASM I wanted to search out W2 leaders and promote what we were doing as a troop. Just last month we had an open house and invited every W2 den in our city. During this "open house" (which the boys planned) was to show off their scout skills and to promote the outings that we go on. Unfortunatly we didnt have the response that we had liked for the open house we still have dens visiting us totally appox 25 scouts. W2 leaders need to talk to the boys that boy scouts i
  17. Here is another twist that I have is that my son wants to work on merit badges outside of the troop meetings however he has a VERY difficult time getting another scout to do it with him or worse just to find a friend to go to the M.B.'s house.
  18. Bob, I would think whether adult leaders were attending the outing or not that it would still require a tour permit with council....here's to learning something new every day
  19. Agree with you DAN....from my experience it's usually been two scouts doing the M.B. together. In Troop_358's original post it implys or at least how I'm reading he is that he has completed all of the requirements prior to ever contacting a M.B. counselor.
  20. Are you saying he completed the requirements for a merit badge without ever contacting the counselor?.....Scouts must contact the M.B. counselors before even starting the merit badge. Shouldnt he allready have a buddy doing the merit badge with him?
  21. Any outing outside of your normal meeting location requires a Tour Permit
  22. Another tks to Bob, However I found at my council office you can fax the tour permit in and when I called to make sure they had it and returned it to me with the stamp of approval it was like no big deal they had told me they would mail it to me however I would not have recieved it until after the event.
  23. Yes, I have heard the same something about gambling (paying for a chance to win) but have no facts to back it up.
