  1. Of all I have found this one to be the most useful. Insanescouter.com is good as well as macscouter.com
  2. Reduced schedule with some outdoor activity's
  3. We are the "Wooden Nickel's" We operate seperatly as a patrol and are currently working on a patrol flag in no way do we ever want to compete with the boys but want to lead by example.
  4. Does anyone have any design plans for the "ideal campsite"? Our chartering partner is having their anniverasry and they would like us to be involved someone and wanted to do something other or in addition to garbage patrol and setting up tables. I thought if their members could take a walk thru a Boy Scout campsite it can also be used as a recruiting tool.
  5. I find myself talking to other course participants about the ticket thing. I have losts of ideas of how to improve our troop..active recruitment, patrol method,JLT,communication. Just wonder if any ticket items are ever "rejected" I have heard that I design the ticket but still have to be approved.
  6. Primarily we are a car camping troop. Our Scouts prefer it to backpacking however we do mix in at least 2-3 backpacking outings a year.
  7. Patrol's are not required to have two deep leadership? I can understand if there no was no ASM present then that rule would apply but if one does show at a seperate off-site patrol meeting shouldnt there be a second?
  8. I work for a Fortune 50 company that sells office machines
  9. We celebrated one and invited past Eagle Scouts, mayor priest and other dignitarys back to our CO. Not many could make it but we did get a letter from one of our Eagles. He was currently fly F-16's in Yugloslavia. His letter was inspirational to the boys speaking how he has never forgotten his oath and law and the skills that he learned.
  10. The cost for ours is $190.00 which includes a cpl of meals and will be held at two seperate council camps.
  11. Congradulations!! Myself and another ASM within our Troop are signing up for Wood Badge this year.
  12. There is no restriction from new Scouts from earning merit badges on their way to 1st Class. However they do need to get permission from their Scoutmaster when requesting a blue card. My personal opinion as long as it does not prohibit their rank advancement and have a buddy why not? It would be done outside of the troop meeting anyway.
  13. Has anyone heard of a new requirement that scouts are not allowed to drive in the fron seat of a car on scout outings? I have no confirmation of this but wanted to know if anyone else has also heard this in the rumour mill.
  14. Tks, Eisely I'll pass this on to our troop
  15. Upset?...they should be glad the boys want to make the right decision for them. If this Troop has a good outdoor program and 1st class emphasis has a troop guide there as they come in that's all you can do can be upset because they want to look elsewhere. We have a small troop of about 20-25 boys while a troop that meets at the same place as us have about 65-75 there are pros and cons to each. Like I said if the program is followed the boys will come
  16. In case you are collecting the Flintstones did an episode where Barney had to take over for the Scoutmaster to take the boys on an outing and had Fred along. It was the Sabertooth tiger patrol kinda funny to watch
  17. Like others have said read .The Patrol Leaders Handbook . If you really want do the job correctly it's a must read.
  18. Boys love the outdoors and the outdoors love the boys. If it's a one night camping trip or two nights. We never pass down an opportunity to get the boys in the woods
  19. Heaters are Heaters better safe then warm, grab an extra blanket
  20. I'm signed up for the sunbathing merit badge
  21. We use the "Wooden Nickel" and use the patch of the native american chief
  22. I agree it should be anohter committee member not the wife
  23. At our troop meeting last night two PL's came foward and said they had no clue what to do at PL...So are SPL is planning a JLT course on a Saturday for all PL's...I'm glad the boys came foward training, training and more training...Personally I thought it was great that they really cared about doing a good job as PL
  24. The boy's patrol boxes include pots, pans, stove, hand towles, soap, propane, pancake mix gatorade mix however I feel that those last two do not belong in a patrol box. Mess kits however are the responsibility of the boys to bring. The Leaders do not have patrol boxes not sure why but believe it's just to save $$ for the troop. Congradulations on your upcoming big crossover, and it appears you are new to this site...keep reading it I'm learning things everyday from this place.
