  1. I dont think I can sit in on his BOR since I'm an ASM..or can I? Bob, Your raise 2 excellent questions that I will be sure to ask to the CC if it proceeds further
  2. The problem I have with one scout in my troop is that he is at Life Class turns 18 in 6 months or less and still hopes to make Eagle..(mostly his father) he rarely comes to meetings let's say 1 in 3 months and thats only when his father has to do a board of review...has provided no leadership in any of the positions he is in and attends no PLC..the rumour I heard and it's only a rumour is that "someone" was going to ask the council office for a exemption. Would I be right if this went down liek this to object formally to the committee? Granted there are two sides to each story and the f
  3. How does a scout serve activly if he never attends a meeting? Does he do the PlC by conference call? Unless he has a unique leadership position that allows him to do it by home. The only example I can think of is Den Chief? Does anyone one have others. I would really appreciate it if someone has an example of how someone can 'serve activily w/o attending meetings-outings. P.S. Bob, Maybe your criticism to Ed should have been a private message to him..kinda rough on the guy.
  4. Roy, Welcome to the camfire, you may want to look thru the archives on this ame subject it's been hit on quite a few times with I beleive no real answer .except fo rthat the military leads with the stars and we lead with the stripes the only real difference ..they are military and we are not.
  5. "Have you ever been lost?" Lost? "No, not lost but mighty confused for a month or two"
  6. Pretty good site seems to have all the info you need to run this..good luck
  7. Our last Camporee was "Mission Possible" with secret agents that the boys had to find.
  8. They probably should, I'm not convinced they have a place at a Scout camp.
  9. Tks again Phi, I saw the picture but shows the marine flag to the left of the U.S. Would it be something like this? 1 2 3 4 5 1 Scout 2 Troop Flag 3 U.S. Flag Stadium audience 4 State Flag 5 Scout
  10. Tks,Phillip...I think I understand you but one more question. To the left of the Honor Guard there will be no flag?
  11. Our troop is doing a color guard for a pro baseball team, and just wanted to make sure we do it correct. The boys will have U.S. flag, state and then troop flag. The U.S flag goes in the center...the state to the right of that and troop flag on the left. Now is it right-left according to the stadium or to the color guard?
  12. I have yet to see anything in writing about proper spacing but my son puts his 3 across
  13. No, but we are looking for info on scouts that are exchange students
  14. FOG.. Stop allready, what's the point of this but just to try to slam him back. If you disagree with Bob then just state it but these verbal attacks are old allready. This is a blatant post against him I dont think you'll find many allies. Difference of opionion is one thing but what you are doing is out of line.

  16. This would be great to have a scout do a presentation to the rest of his troop. Were backpacking in the sierra's next weekend.
  17. OGE, I would have no problem with parents at summer camp as long as they know there role. I guess after re-reading my post it would appear that I implied that no parents at summer camp...my apologies.
  18. WOW First I would have a very serious talk with the BSA lifeguard with passing him on requirements that he obviously couldnt complete also in addition he may have indirectly put his life at risk if he is that bad of a swimmer. Second the Committee chair needs to have a talk with the Mom 3rd..Why is Mom at summer camp? 4th Have at talk with the camp director and explain that this boy's blue card was signed off without doing anything. 5th Have a chat with the boy it's not his fault his mom is pushy and ask again for the troop guide to work more with the boy, the damadge
  19. I'm not sure either if this is for the boys to vote on. However our troop collects it's dues for the year at the beggining of the "scout year" instead of the weekly dues.
  20. You did the right thing by everyone leaving and explaining why to the parents whether they like it or not and you even left the door open for them to help out..however What about "safe swim defense" there should have been a protected area for swimmers or even waders.
  21. Personally,....I probably would have broken the rules but I would have made sure I told the camp director, my scoutmaster, committe chair with times of when I left and arrived at different citys
  22. Bob, I have found your posts to be very informative and have helped me and the troop I serve greatly. Please do not stop posting. You know Bob sometimes you need someone that goes by the book and yes it is a very good book at that. I have committed to reading it cover to cover every year. And you know what Bob, do you know who got me thinking I better go out and buy this book and read it...well you did, yes it was you I figured this guy knows so much about Scoutmaster fundamentals and the patrol method and what it takes to serve a troop. To compliment you further when I read the initi
  23. I could be wrong but wasn't the 1st class requirements for swimming removed and put on the swimming merit badge only?
  24. Bob, How is prospective members covered? Do we need to sign them up on the registration form? I would like to introduce to the PLC "Invite a Friend on a Campout" and am interested how the insurance would be covered
