  1. We have done pretty good with can collections on a one time thing. We do one in conjustion with Scouting for Food. We pass out flers and 2 bags. Last year for a couple hrs work we got $400 dollars in cans and bottles. The problem I have seen with collection trailers is they can turn into trash bins quick if you don't monitor it close.
  2. Paul Wolf from USSP has posted the 2005 changes to a temp site until thier server is fixed http://users.adelphia.net/~pwolf/USScouts/advchanges05.html
  3. At our COH whem a young man earns his first MB we also award him his Merit Bage Sash. Just a tradition in our troop.
  4. If the crew votes to wear the kelly Green shirt then they must follow the uniforming guide. They don't get to pick and choose if they elect this as the uniform.
  5. The scout camp that I attended as a youth had the highest mountain in a 50 mile radius. They had a huge antenna farm on it, didn't hurt us in the least, didn't degrade the camp, and the yearly fees went a long way to maintaining camp. The fees they get for this type of tower run 15K-30K per year for the land owner typically.
  6. Only the Eagle badge may be worn on Venturing uniform.
  7. Just because someone didn't follow the rules does not make it right. The council procedure manual says its not allowed, obvilously they are either sloppy or want the numbers higher
  8. My question is why is the CM running what should be a Boy Scout ceremony? Crossover is entry into the Troop and should be run by the Troops. Every Troop in our district and every troop I have ever been associated with the SM runs crossover.
  9. Unless I am mistaken, MOS is only in Heart of America Council, Pony Express Council and one other in the same geographical area. National is actively discouraging any more, although they may not say it. The want the use of the OA in councils.
  10. Jamboree offers no training classes, unless you count MB's. Thats not the purpose of the Jamboree, its to have FUN!!!
  11. If yu go back to Discussion in sep 03. The registration procedures manual states, and I quote Dsteele who is a scouting professional, "Troop members (youth) may not multiple register in another troop." "May not" is underlined and in bold print. I asked our registrar yesterday, it has not changed. So the Official answer if your DE looked in the Book is NO, 1 troop is all that is allowed. We have youth in our district like this, infact I have a family like this in our troop. What ever he does with another troop he gets credit for if he brings a note from the troop he camps of wo
  12. He can not be registered in 2 troops at the same time. If you look back in the archives this has been discussed before. A youth may only be registered in 1 troop at a time. Since venturing is a different program that he can be in a troop and a crew at same time. As for Webelos being registered in Pack and Troop, that also is not allowed. When he is eligable for troop membership and elects to join his cub scout membership is transfered to Boy Scouts. Once he is registered in a Troop he is finished with Cubs

  14. My question would be , why would you not want to integrate your new scouts with the troop? Why would you even consider segrigating them from the experianced scouts? This goes against all the program info I have ever seen and goes against the Patrol system. No, I would never indorse such an idea.
  15. Just remeber what they say, The only good things about a communist government is that the first thing they do is shoot all the lawyers.
  16. anarchist the council is leading this trek. This is a NSJ troop, they operate under the council directly. So like anything else the council does they have the final say. Yes I agree that maybe the would not force someone to take a youth they didn't want. But they could, they have that right as the troop sponsor, same as your CO/COR can direct that a youth be allowed in the troop even if you don't want them.
  17. ASM1 I have to say that is about the most off the wall statement I have heard in a long time. Tell me where you are coming from please
  18. anarchist, Yes there is something special about a NSJ troop. The troop is a councilwide troop, generally made up of boys from all over the council. The council picks who is in the troops. Unless these leaders are different than everyother NSJ troop, the council has the last say. The leaders can either accept it or resign. I would imiagine that the council and the leaders they recruited would talk this over before any decision was made, or atleast I would hope so. by the way there is no CO in a NSJ troop, the council is the owner.
  19. tmillerfamily As some have pointed out the ADA does not apply to BSA, even at the National Jamboree. Have you talked directly to the Jamboree troop leaders to see what thier concerns are? They may not feel qualified to handle this scout in the setting of the NSJ. I was a troop ASM at the NSJ in 2001, we had a scout that was disabled. Luckly his Home troop SM was also the NSJ troop SM. If he had not been there I would have hesitated to take this scout with me. I know it may sound harsh, but the 4 troop leaders have 36 scouts to look after and a very large area that they are spread over
  20. There is a recommended letter to send to Parents explaining the video. You are supposed to offer a preshowing for parents so they can choose not to have thier son watch it. Also unlike the venturing one you are discouraged from having a discussion after showing it.
  21. Backpacker, you said "In my council lodge more women are taking adult leadership roles in the lodge, including two Venture female leaders." These leader must have been in a troop when they were nominated for membership as only Troops can nominate leaders. AZ Cub and Venture Crew leaders cannot be nominated unless they are also part of a troop.
  22. Backpacker, The point that OA and National has made is the the OA is a Boy Scout Program, not for Cub leaders and not for Venturers.
  23. I think its fair to say that who ever allowed non-memebers of the OA to attend your conclave screwed up big time. Wheather they are female or male they had no bussiness there.
  24. I think its fair to say that who ever allowed non-memebers of the OA to attend your conclave.
  25. I have to agree with OGE on this one. If the young ladies in Venturing want an honor society like OA, Draft a plan and send it thru your CE to national. Didn't they try something called Corp of Discovery?
