  1. If the SM has approved the youth to be a Den Chief, which he must, then he has no option but to count it. The key is the SM must approve the youth working as Den Chief. The only way they can not count it would be to say to the youth "Sorry, but you cannot be a Den Chief". Unless the scout is unsuitable for the position, yes we had one young man in that boat, why would you not want to have Den Chiefs. What better way to sustain the t
  2. What Camps are these anyway. I have never heard of any camps that
  3. Yes its true as far as we know right now, all trucks and and possibly busses will be screened. It takes about 2 minutes to do one large truck. If they do busses you will have to unload all the passengers as the machine they use will really make you glow in the dark for sure. Almost all Stateside Army installations have these units now. As a hint to all Leaders packing the trucks. Try and leave a path for them to walk up into the truck. If they see something on the machine they question, they may want to see what it is.
  4. Like I started to say before it got cutoff. Our council still enforces the 1 to 1 parent to cub, including Webelos when camping.
  5. I agree it is banned by G2SS. But not every infraction of the rules at a troop outing has to be elevated to the CE. Some things can be handled at the troop level
  6. Having seen this video more times than I care to count, I don't see that in it anywhere. It was older scouts consuming some alchol, not someone feeding it to them. Atleast thats the jist of what I get from message
  7. WHOA, Why is this a youth protection issue and why do you have to involve the CE. There is no YP issue here. Firt you need to find out some facts here before you do anything. Define quite a while? How did you find out? Whats your position in the unit also?
  8. I always thought a big part of a DE's day was hiding out from volunteers looking for information. Most De's have answering Machine, email, cell phones and a fax and you still can't find them when your in a pinch.
  9. Trail Pounder, You need to make sure you fill out application for McMillian Wood
  10. Keep in mind the CE can waive the 5 youth requirenment if he
  11. If you want to get into McMIllian Campground, make sure you get signed up on time. I have to warn you its not easy getting into it. The weekend we went down they had a headcount of over 1500 attempt to get into the lottery for 300 spaces. York Adams has two Camp's in the Area. Tuckahoe being the nicest. They have buildings that will acominadte 8 to 40 people and have built in dividers to separate area's for male and female. Tuckahoe is about 30 min away from battlefield
  12. SR540Beaver How can you even justify shoving an unsuspecting scout from behind and the having 2 other scouts drag him the way descibed as anything other than abuse is beyond my conception. This violates so many rules and standards of conduct its unbelievable that a lodge would still do this.
  13. BW Said' "Our charter is up in December, so technically this boy is still registered until December." "That prety much says it all doesn't it? " Sorry but on this point I have to disagree. If your not attending meetings and maintaining active membership, and you stated you have quit. Then as I see it your not part of the unit anymore. That is why we have a standard that scouts must meet in order to attend special outings. I would like to know if they are not attending meetings
  14. pistonsfan39 This is exactly why they banned physical contact. Some day someone is going to stumble and fall and get hurt, then the lodge, advisors, and council will be hung out to dry by the lawyers
  15. BP you said, "Under the letter of the law the boy is a member of scouting and you took his money, so he is entitled to go." Would you please tell me where you get this from? If you join a group, agree to certain rules and then notify the group you no longer wish to be a member you have no inherant rights to participate in the group. If your not attend group functi
  16. This is where I have to disagree with boleta and scoutldr. If your not attending meeting and not doing things with your den and pack and you and your parents have stated that you have quit, then your not a scout. AS fotoscout stated he has put as much effort into this scout as he is willing, and taking him would most likely disrupt the rest of the pack. Sometimes you have to deceide do you sacri
  17. 3 yrs a go we purchased a wood track from http://www.pinewoodderbytrack.com . Very well built and should last long after I am gone. I have a personal preference for wood tracks. Metal and plastic just don't look right.
  18. Well, if he is not attending meetings and Dad said he has quit, then how can you consider him a memeber. Just cause your registered, but don't attend does not make you a scout. We have a rule in Troop and Pack, you must attend the last 3 meetings prior to a trip or campout unless your excused.
  19. I will second most of what has been said so far. Based on our experiance with our trailers. Buy the biggest you can get with a double axle. A single axle trailer just does not usually have the weight capacity for what you will have in it. yes parking maybe a problem, but I would caution NEVER leave it at your sponsors parking lot. All yu need to do is read the stories of the thefts of troop trailers that occur to convince you of that. I keep ours in my back yard or at one of the other ASM's houses where it is under positive control. Buy good locks, a 25ft peice of chain, and a lock fo
  20. For what reason? And what purpose would it searve?
  21. If this is a council trip, How could an 11 yr old go if they set the age at 14? If this is a troop trip like we do, ang age could attend if he is a swimmer.
  22. We went to Gettysburg this past April and stayed at Camp Tuckahoe. Fantastic Camp, great buildings. Only 30-40 min drive from Battlefield. We choose buildings over campground for 2 reasons. Comfort was big issue, if you follow the program its a long 2 days to finish it. The buildings made it nice becuse in spring weather can be rainy and cold. This was not designed as a camping trip, but as an educational outing with scouts and leader
  23. "All meetings in BSA are supposed to be open to parents who wish to observe. " If the PLC sets the rule that no adults unless invited by the PLC, Then there is no adults. If a parent insist on being there, let them observe through a window, if they get so insistant that they have to be in the room, the PLC needs to tell the scout to leave the room, its as simple as that. If you let parents observe, you need a
  24. The best thing is tell parents and committee members they cannot be at PLC meetings. There is nothing in BSA rules that says you cannot prohibit them. You set a rule and if they do noyt want thier son to attend without them then you explain it and if they still won't then I guess its time to elect new leaders
