  1. EagleInKY said " I believe your scout executive would say that no boy should be denied scouting due to financial burdens. Councils provide assistance to low-income families in the way of reduced camp fees, etc." Most councils have money(Scout Reach) for registration, camps, uniform assistance, but I know ow none the underwrite a units activities. While they beleive that no scout should be denied the chance, if the parents don't pay, who does? We have had parents say I can't or won't pay, but my son should be allowed to do this event anyway. Our answer is, I am sorry, but payment
  2. WHile it may seem high, to do a quality program does take money. I would though ask for w detail breakdown of what is included. Is any camping included? As to what happens if you withhold him attending or if he misses it because of another reason, then that money is lost. "I thought scouting was supposed to be for every boy everywhere." No, I know of nothing that says you must include everyone. Does anyone have that in the R&R?
  3. So I guess in the case of your crew the term BSA truly means "Baby Sitters of America?
  4. Trail Pounder said "My 6 year old twins go camping and sailing with the Sea Scouts. They've got a lot of tent time in already. The only concern that has been voiced was a mutual groan from the teenagers when they wanted to go to the beach and I made them take my boys along with." Sound like you wanted free baby sitting service. It would be time for me to find a new unit, especially after the remark "I own the Sailboats."
  5. there was a recent change that added the minimum age for earning AOL. In addition to time you must be a minimum of 10 yrs old now.
  6. Do, we did and no one has complained in years. Lots of troops have the logo of businesses that donated money or services for thier trailer.
  7. I would meet with him and explain the situation to see if he would volunteer to make the change. The one problem with trying to force it is getting the checkbook back.
  8. Keeping mailing list's updated is an endless task. Someone will always have an old copy they are using On another note, Proud Eagle, When the CE signs the lodge charter paperwork there is a part that he signs certifying that all members of the lodge are also BSA members.
  9. Since this is Cubs, I assume you have a BALOO trained person and the Council has approved the camping area and trip, you probably would be ok. Although the interpretaion of winter camping is up to your council. On another note, last years Klondike up here in the Adirondacks on Friday night is was minus 38 at 5am. Great winter camping weather!
  10. BW, Whats up with you today? Been at Happy Hour to long?
  11. Our Council has gone one step further and has prohibitted taking your pack camping outside if it is expected to be below 40 degree's.
  12. While this may sound like a fun thing, winter camping is not allowed in Cubscouts. Winter Camping is only allowed in Boy Souts or Venturing. See the G2SS, Age Appropriate Guidelines,. It takes a proper training and equipment to take youth out true winter camping. With the proper sleeping gear and equipment you won't need heat in the tents. Besides that Heaters are prohibited in tents on Scout activities.
  13. The issue was wearing on the Green shirt, not Sea Scout whites. If you choose the Green shirt as your uniform, which you don't have to, then you must follow the uniform regs, you cannot just make stuff up.
  14. Some places, like Philmont do not allow hammocks anymore because of the damage to the tree's.
  15. Quail's are just as tasty as Bob Whites Paul I used to
  16. For your information, Yes I am. I have a daughter in a local crew, help out with hers and an all female crew in the area, Serve as district Venturing Rep and more. The problem I see is you as the advisor should never have allowed a rule in bylaws that was in contravetion to BSA rules. On this note I will end my part in this disussion, thanks
  17. But according to BSA rules your Bylaws are incorrect. Someday its going to happen, someone will wear one. It inevitable that someone will do it. Why would you try and regulate something as minor as wearing something that a scout has earned. Whats next? Suppose one of them wants to wear his Eagle Badge, his year pins, or his National Jamboree Patch or whatever? What then?
  18. That is my point exactly. If they choose to wear the venturing green shirt, then they can wear any patch or badge they are authorized to wear, including a lodge flap. You cannot write into your bylaws that lodge flaps are not authorized. Sorry but they cannot change the BSA uniforming regs. And as for not childish, to write a rule whose only purpose is to penelize those who chose to participate in the OA is just that "CHILDISH and IMMATURE.
  19. Trailpounder, Sounds like a bunch of people saying to those that are longtime scout members "If I cannot join, then you cannot wear what you have earned" . Sounds rather childish to me. So back to my question, suppose someone joins that is active in the OA and wears his flap, are you going to chastise them?
  20. Trailpounder, What if one of the crew members who also is an OA member deceides to wear his flap? The crew cannot dictate which patches they can wear on the forest green venturing shirt.
  21. I tried the cut and paste, didn't work either. Not sure what causes it. Does anyone have a clue? The last on my message said that no matter what be prepared for a bottleneck at the entrance. Cause they are not planning on relaxing the rules.
  22. an operater sits there watching the screen. And let me tell you those boys don't miss much. Just about every week they catch a driver with contaband even after they are given an amnisty chance before they are scanned. The guys running these do this all day long at the entrance to most military bases now so they know what to look for. They are supposed to have multiple units at AP Hill so things will kind of move along, I say Kind of. It will still cause bottl
  23. For the education of those who have not seen the devices the military is using let me explain it. It is a truck mounted Gamma Ray device. The emitter is on a long arm like a power company boom truck. The truck to be scanned pulls into the area and after the driver exits the vehicle the truck drives down the side with the emitter arm up and over the vehicle. It takes about 2 min to travel the length od a normal Tractor trailer. In the scanner truck in a shielded
