  3. MrsSmith Scouts_L is another discussion group and can be found at http://www.engr.tcu.edu/~eidson/scouts-l/swelcome.html BSA insurance coverage is not dependant on you filing a tour permit. Insurance coverage is automatic as long as you are not doing anything Illegal. You should be able to get that information straight from your council office.
  4. You are always covered by BSA insurance if your doing a scouting activity. If you don't file a tour permit, you are still covered by BSA insurance This was discussed in depth on scouts-L some time ago.
  5. The problem with the concept of allowing CO to deceide if a Gay person is a good leader or not and weather to allow them in thier troop or pack is what do you do at Multi-unit events. What happens to the Camporee's and Jamboree's? This would create more of a mess than there is now. I for one cast my vote for the present policy. If you know the rules, you have to deceide either to join and follow them or not join, simple as that.
  6. Seems this individual has an axe to grind with Sea Base. I was told its because he was not given any bussiness from seabase and was banned from doing bussiness with them. Marine, if you want the document, why don't you call them, or file a FOI request to get it. Could it be that they are not responding to you cause you have pestered them to death. Time to end this thread This to

  9. First its tooooo late to not call it a troop trip. But saying that, whats wrong with the way it is run, except for the beer. We also do a White Water weekend in August like this and bring family memebers and allow guest under certain rules. Why not? Why shouldn't you be up front with council and file a tour permit? Better to cover your bases than to be hanging out there if something happens. As to Guest, you can fix this by having a written policy for all
  10. I see no problem here. There is not even a place on the application for star or life POR's, only the one you need for eagle. I would not look at it or even think about it it was so far back and you don't know what the SM's thought was at the time.

  12. I think this is another of those local council rules. In our council they are prohibi
  13. Each council does insurance differently. In our council we pay .80 per scout and adult for the year at recharter time. The council buys it for everyone even if you don't want it. Like wise tour permits are done differently in each council. There is no hard and fast rule except for national tour permits. So check with your DE/CE to see what they mandate locally.
  14. While I think this is a really dumb policy. Many CO restrict female adult involvement. LDS CO do not allow females to camp even if the husband is along. Scoutmaster Ron. A CO/Troop can implemt more restrictive policies on attendance and membership, but the can't loosen the basic rules.
  15. What are these big flags made of? If they are nylon be aware of the massive novious fumes ones that size make. According to US code any method to include burying is allowed. Back in Washinton DC, when I was in the Old Guard (Presidential Honor Guard) with the Army, we used to take all old flags we had once a month to the Pentagon incinerator and burn them.
  16. If you need new training equipment. Why not figure it into
  17. to me this is a down right silly discussion. It is not disrespectful, and lots of groups do it to honor the flag. Our troop has help the Loacl Elks numerous times to carry thier flag. As for the complainers, let them complain, whoppee! big deal! As for raising it on a pole, great idea, but most places don't have 150 ft poles to raise a flag this size on
  18. we don't have any policy on who can pull it, why would you need that? If your troop leadership trusts them then what does a past driving violation have to do with it?
  19. Overtrained, You should consult with a lawyer before you say that. Local and state laws will override the Charter agreement if there is a conflict. If you ever get to read the Actual R&R from BSA, you will find that they are grey as heck and are not the clear black and white hard and fast document that everyone thinks when it comes to money and equipment in a unit. They are intentionally wrote that way because of the diferences from state to state. Just like some states won't allow a Troop to sue in Small claims court, our state does. One of our neighboring troops did just tha
  20. Are we talking about a Male Advisor who has befriended a Female Venturer?
  21. As for locking. Buy a good heavy chain and good locks. We had a steel tiedown ring welded to the frame and we use that to chain the traile to a big immovable object when its parked out of its secure storage area. Don't scrimp on chain or lock. If its not locked to a vehicle it locked to a tree. Never leave it in a parking lot, like at a church or sponsor. That where most of them get stolen. As to Registration, Call the Motor Vehicle Department where you are located. They can tell you the right rules for your state. While Scouters here may quote you rules on ownership, this varies
  22. I know BW is going to quote BSA R&R. But when it comes to money and Equipment a lot of what happens is based on the state laws of the state you are in. If you have a question on Money and property find a lawyer that will talk to you about it. In NY where I am A troop is considered an entity and the CO may or may not have control of it money and equipment. In our troop the CO is not listed on Bank Account and has no say over the money because of the way the lawyers years ago set up the accounts. So if there is an equipment and money issue find a good lawyer and talk to them see wha
  23. JIMMY D says "Also has a troop we are allowed to wear Legion patches below the US Flag. (Yes we can do this) I've seen other troops also doing this" Never heard of this or seen it in the uniform regs. Sounds like cause you see someone else doing something wrong, you might as well also. What do you say BW & FOG should we now start wearing sponsor patches?
  24. I just checked my can, Not flammable except for the propellant in the can. Once its dry its fine, other than the odor.
  25. I see no reason why not, In fact we are doing this with a joint crew troop to Gettysburg next month.
