  1. You should seek out handicapped trails for a part of your program, but everything doesnot have to be that way. You should make the effort to include him, but not every activity is handicapped friendly.
  2. Well I think you need to tell your friend that he does not know what he is talking about when it comes to LDS units. Just another rumor that is not worth discussing.
  3. Wouldn't it be great if one time both paries is a dispute were posters to this list and we could get an unbiased look at both sides of an issue.
  4. We went last year and had a fantastic time. Just a note, those that haven't been since last year the process for getting space in Mcmillian Woods has changed. You must get in the lottery for space now. The lottery takes place in January. If you don't get in the lottery drawing you have no chance at getting into the free campground.
  5. The last one we had took 2-3 weeks. Very short compared to older days.

    Velcro

The problem with velcro is when your out Snipe hunting and you brush against a tree it can make a lot of noice and scare the little buggers! Or was that when your trying to sneak up on your scouts? I forget which it is now.
  7. Merlyn_LeRoy You are so full of stuff its unbelievable. Chaplins are not nor can they be forced to violate the rules of the religious order that they are ordained in. Catholic chaplains won't serve communion in violation of church rules and that is not violating anyones rights. If they are serving soldiers of other faiths they do exactly as the scouts do and offer non denominational services. All Chaplains are trained to do that in addition to what there sponsoring chuch teaches them. If you are going to make stuff up atleast make it half beleivable. (This message has been edited by
  8. The ironic thing about this whole issue is if an Army unit is directly sponsoring a scout troop or any other group like this they are already violating Army Regulations. The army issued its own regulation several years ago saying units were not allowed to directly sponor any activities like sscouts or anyone else. Supporting them are fine, but you cannot enter into a written sponsorship agreement. This was done because commanders were mandating that certain underlings support groups that they may not have wanted to by forcing them to volunteer thier time. So all we have done here for t
  9. try this http://www.foodservicedirect.com/index.cfm/S/92/N/82344/Sink_Sanitizer_Tablets.htm although they are not wrapped its what we use. If you want indiviual wrapped ones BSA sells them at scoutsuff.org at a premium price.
  10. If you don't get an answer by end of week when I get home I will look at the bottle we have of them. We use the same ones they used at 2001 NSJ.
  11. The DOD plan which oh by the way has been in effect for a few years always was to move all group sponsorship to it community based activities so that the government sponsors NO groups of any kind. The Army has been moving that way slowly for a couple of years, this will just speed it up a little. Will there be any less troops and packs? nope, not because of this. Will they get the same level of support, yes they will. Will this make a differance, nope, not in the least. The MWR folks (Morale, welfare and Recreation) does not pick and choose what groups are allowed. If a legitamate y
  12. If its been used for food grade items just nneds a good washing and drying. If its been used for any hazarous material, like engine oil or antifreeze I would be extremmly careful and leery of what I was using it for as its almost impossible to get that stuff out. To the point thatthe health deptment will not allow grills made out of 55 gal drums on youth camps anymore here.
  13. Of those 1200 less than 200 are actually sponsored by the military its self, and most of those are overseas. The Army moved to community based sponsors years ago, so this is nothing at all. Even 8200 schools, most will do the same thing.
  14. This agreement has really very minimal impact on scout units on military bases. All it says is that the military will not be the sponsor. On every army base that I know the TRoop is sponsored by a "Friends of Troop XX" organization. The agreement says that the BSA has equal access to facilities that other groups have. So I see this a just a minor thing and really won't affect anything.
  15. Use blank ones and get colored gel pens for cloth. Have the best artist in the patrol do them all. We have had a couple of sucessful ones made this way. Get a couple of extra blanks for testing and screw-ups.
  16. I would venture a guess in that he would continue in cubscouting until 10. After AOL there is still plenty of activity badges. After AOL is not the end of cub scouting just like earning Eagle is not the finish of Boy Scouts.
  17. he has it wrong, 10 is the minimum with AOL. So even if a youth earns AOL before 10 he can not join until he is 10 now.
  18. If the scouts want to cross District, council or any other imagionary line that is their choice. Who are we to tell them no? We have boys in our troop from another district, one driving close to 30 miles because they like our program. One boy was in his local troop and was unhappy with it so asked if he could join us. One comes 30 miles and bypasses 3 or 4 troops that are in between.
  19. The "Risk Zone" is nationals safety training and has been on the street for atleast 2 or 3 years.
  20. "The family indicated that they plan to appeal this decision. " To whom would you appeal this decision? You cannot force the CO to accept a scout of adult. What a great waste of a lot of people's time to confirm what everyone already knew.

    CO's

Well all the staff at our Camps are members of a venturing crew that is chartered to the camp, so I would have to say yes.
  22. Sometimes, no matter what you do you can never repair a broken relationship like this. It may be better to just leave the individual alone. We have a businessman in town here that is a great supporter of youth programs. If local Youth sports programs need support he is always willing, if the local Girl Scout troops need help, he is first there. Any youth group except the Boy Scouts has an open door to talk to him. Why is this. Well it seems about 15 yrs ago the council that was in our area at the time did a bad thing in his eyes and he has never and will never forgive the Boy Scouts.
  23. Girls in Cub Scouts, no way, girls have cooties.
  24. Well I see the truncating monstor stuck me again. Too bad I can't remember what I wrote, took me 10 min to do. But seeing as I am sooo old and suffer from CRS these days, my words are lost forever.
  25. You wil notice to US code only says burning is one of the acceptable methods. There is no right or wrong way. Cut, don't cut. Cut only the stripes, cut the Blue, don't cut the blue. There is NOTHING other than personnal choice as to the right way as long as its dignified. We have done ones where ther flag was cut into many many small pieces befor the ceremony and all those present got to add a small pie
