  1. I just looked at the current workbook. The final signatures required that project is complete: Scout Beneficiary Unit Leader Not sure where the second Unit signature is....
  2. More background would be helpful. How many people came to help? Does he have a sign in sheet? Was the beneficiary happy with the results? Now that I see Stosh's post. He said it better...
  3. Our Troop gives a wooden canoe paddle to be signed with a sharpie at his CoH and an initial membership to NESA
  4. The second Scouts project is to collect and refurbish (repair and remove all data) computers to donate to a homeless program to make a computer lab for the use of people searching for permanent housing and jobs. He is member of the church and he had asked permission to store computers received and have a work session or 2 to go through all the PCs and make sure they operate well before setting up the lab. Tech Education workshop is by a scout from another troop and district and is not a member of the church. In talking to the District Advancement Chair ,there were several things the sc
  5. There had been an advertising on a bulletin board at church that a Scout would hold a Tech education class for three Sundays for 1 hour at my church. Yesterday was supposed to be the first one. There were 4 people from the church that showed up for help but the Scout did not show up or communicate that he was not coming. We tried to call him and only got his mother and she said he was not home. I would be interested to know what project was approved and what the District's expectations are. There has been confusion generated as there is also another Scout working on a computer based Eagle
  6. In the past no. Our Eagle boards have been all Troop parents with the exception of the District representative. There really isn't a need to have an introduction. Our District may be making a change to holding Eagle BoRs on the night of Round Table and the board members recruited by the District Advancement Chair. If so, I can see the need and benefit of the SM introduction.
  7. With the Genesis bows, if they are having more trouble at the longer distances, you might need to increase pull force to increase arrow velocity. A few turns with an Allen wrench on the bow arms can help significantly. One of our camps had the Genesis bows real loose for the Cubs at the shorter distances and the Venturing kids were struggling until I "turned up the power"
  8. And also the loss of actual buttons to hang the Kodiak or Powderhorn recognitions from...
  9. I thought there was going to be a requirement that half of the service hours were related to conservation. That is only in the Life rank now. Early drafts had it throughout. I wonder what happened to that?
  10. Of course that assumes the new handbooks will be available in January as promised... So the other question is if the boy has the Scout badge already then he is working on Tenderfoot. Would he have to first earn Scout rank before Terderfoot then?
  11. When the paperwork comes back from National, our Council gives the unit advancement chair a recognition kit. In our Troop we always give the Scout the patch at the next Troop meeting once we have the kit. It is up to the Scout to decide if he wants to correctly update his uniform before the CoH. We have also had Scouts choose to not have a separate Eagle CoH and just be part of the regular Troop CoH.
  12. I am PADI as is my son, but the daughter is NAUI. We have an SDI near us. Sometimes I get flack from the SSI people when they see my PADI card - and get comments like, well you didn't do this or that with your OW like our program...
  13. @blw2 - I am a diver. I was just curious as to the agency. Most around here are PADI or SSI and there were some scouters doing NAUI. I would not worry about it as long as your Council approves your application. My daughter got certified at a Venturing camp program and my son through a SCUBA Crew. I have been able to take them both diving in the ocean. My son is expecting a trip to Seabase for SCUBA like I did with his sister. I would say you need to get your son blowing bubbles and go diving with him!
  14. Out of curiosity, what SCUBA agency are you certified as an instructor with?
  15. http://www.scouting.org/scoutsource/HealthandSafety/GSS/gss04.aspx Alcohol The following statement was approved by the National Executive Board of the Boy Scouts of America: It is the policy of the Boy Scouts of America that the use of alcoholic beverages and controlled substances is not permitted at encampments or activities on property owned and/or operated by the Boy Scouts of America, or at any activity involving participation of youth members.
  16. I could tell you what the process is supposed to be. I cannot tell you how it actually works in your Council however. I turn them into our DE and they process them and present at roundtable. Perhaps we could better advise you if you told us who (position wise) your DE pointed you to?
  17. For the Northern Star Council, the Troop Advancement Chair requests the letters based on the names and addresses from the Eagle application form. When the packet is complete, the AC delivers to the registrair (including any reference letters received). The entire packet once validated by the Council is given to the District AC to coordinate the EBoR. At any time new letters are received, they may be passed on to the packet for distribution to the board proior to the BOR. After the BoR - as long as there are no complications (denial, postponement...) the letters are destroyed by the Chair
  18. You might want to check the Completions tab under My Training. I thought they would list Veturing Advisor, Scoutmaster Training, and IOLS on the program pages, but they are only under the completed tab.
  19. I worked at Technology Quest in the Cloud. Even at a good speed it took me closer to an hour. The ranges were past that, although there was a bus for the range staff. I got fed up when some staffers were allowed to ride, but not others. I was walking... I think they should have some transportation for the kids too. It is one thing to be in shape to get from point a to b, but they waste a lot of time just getting where they need to be.
  20. Our Troop is about the same size. To address this same issue, we have the electrion for SPL first, then have the the remainder decide how they split into the two patrols and the the patrols elect their PL. Not just anyone can be on the ballot for SPL - there is an approval process, for us it includes attending NYLT.
  21. A caving trip once also required packing it out...
  22. We have had a few Scouts earn it. 2 of the 3 were Eagles, the third is still on his path. They recently added a Conservation segment and expanded it to Sea Scouts and Venturing.
  23. I just got this info from the Central Region: The 2013 Staff spoke and was listened to. Here’s a few of the enhancements for the 2017 staff experience : Better Transportation : No more than a 30 minute walk from your housing to your work area. Time Off : Enough staff will be recruited to offer you a full day off during your staff duty. Communications : You will be kept up to date from your registration date to Jambo time. Lunch: A variety of lunches and sufficient caloric content will be made available. Lodging: You will have up to 30 days
  24. If Mrs. X is the advancement Chair, she has no authority over the MB Counsilor. If he is deferring to her, then the MBC is not doing his part correctly. There is no reason this Scout should not be given the names of some alternative MBCs to finish up with. This is part of the reason why I do not encourage participation in MB 'Universities'. My son had a similar problem with followup after doing cooking. After a year of chasing the MBC from the class he asked for a new one and was signed off right away.
  25. I had a Scout signed off for the camping merit badge and I know he did not have 20 nights of camping. If you question it, contact the camp staff.
