A long time ago, on a camp out I overheard one of the guys say, "when Mr Jeff is around we use our knives correctly, when he's not we use them wrongly", I just had to laugh! -
If you are on linked in, there is commissioner support forum run by Irving. This just in. This has a hot due date for any new leaders, and you can bet your bottom dollar it'll be required for all when units recharter.

How about those who prefer leaders keep their hands off the kids? Given the number of kids with sensory issues, and the number of kids who aren't participating with two parents, etc. I don't see any value in the custom. -
Here's a follow up question --- what is quality control in Scouting supposed to look like? Is there supposed to be quality control? We have adult leader training and the handbooks and the publications -- is it supposed to go beyond that and if so, what does it mean and look like in action? (This may be straying off topic, or not!)

Was wondering if anyone else was having this problem: Using Windows 10. Chrome, IE and Edge. Log in to my.scouting.org. Go to training manager and pull up the training dashboard. Try to link to and download the training report (either report). A new page comes up that says "Service" at the top. The text underneath reads "Endpoint not found. Please see the service help page for constructing valid requests to the service." No report. No pdf. Nothing. Anyone else having problems accessing this information from Windows 10?

Practical illustrations of risks due to lightning along with explanation of how the damage occurs are hard to come by. This involves animals, not people, and thus may be easier to show to your boys. Plus, the explanation of the physics behind a strike (comparing why four footed species are likely to suffer more harm than two-footed) might help scouts understand our strategy of squatting in a broad circle if we can't find shelter. http://www.nytimes.com/2016/08/31/science/lightning-strike-dead-reindeer.html

So, I have a question about the Den Chief program. I know the council puts on normal Den Chief training that the Scouts have to attend to be considered trained and earn the Den Chief Award. However, I was told that normally when a Cub Scout pack takes on a Den Chief, they should put on training for the Scouts to ensure they have an understanding of the Cub Scout program and how the pack runs. Has anyone ever heard of this? I just want to make sure my pack does this all correctly so both the pack and the older Scouts are fully prepared for the program.

In the recent "adult-lead troop" and other topics there's a discussion about ASMs who can't take step back from the youth management of activities. And their was a little debate about if this behavior is more likely among former scouts since their entire career had been fully engaged with the youth and now a switch needs to be flipped. Well, maybe that's why we need to move some boys into a JASM position. Maybe if they spend that last year "stepping back" and helping to do some adult tasks: possibly advising a few Eagle projects, helping the treasurer balance the books, maybe even a little

@@JoeBob mentioned in the Disruptive Scout thread about training parents. It seems part of the SM job description is to train the parents. Most of the time it's subtle - the parents start questioning there own behavior after hearing & hopefully seeing the Scout oath & law being lived. Other times it's not so subtle - when the parent comes and talks with you about their Scout and some issues their having. Does anyone else experience this?

Is there any word as to when the e-training courses will be updated to reflect the new cub scout program? I am re-taking the Tiger Cub den-leader online course at scouting.org, and it has not been updated yet.
