  1. I would tell you as a SM, no one could direct me to sign an advancement for anything. If the CC tried this it would be time to move on. I would not impune my integrity by doing this. The repercussions could tear this troop apart. It appears the Scout thought he was ready for his BOR, and asked for his SM conference. As he should. The SM did a conference and explained why he didn't think the scout was ready, and the scout, reluctantly, agreed. I think its time for CC and parent to step back and retink thier issues. I do think the SM and SPL needs to spend more time with this s
  2. The reasoning behind registering Males goes back years to when what they needed was Fighters, not support soldiers. Although this would be true today, woman still cannot searve in ground combat positions in the US Army or Marines. No Infantry, Armour, Artillary. Could a Woman do these position? Certainly there are some ladis that could do them as well if not better than the average Male. Look at the Soldiers on the News from Iraq and Afganistan, Look at the Gear they Hump every day. Yes technoligy has improved some things, But no matter The True fighters, The Infantry Man, Tanker,
  3. roadwatchr It still comes down to WHO signed the application. Tell them in no uncertain words, "produce the original copy" . Someone must have it, if not then do not accept this person in any capacity until someone produces it for you.
  4. Let me get this straight the Field exec said cause he was registered several years ago he didn't need a new signed application? If he did , he don't know what he is talking about. The COR still needs to sign the application. Something smells fishy here!
  5. I am not sure who told you you can wear the gettysburg patch above your right pocket. But its not in my Uniform guide.
  6. I think not on any of these suggestions. I think a proper place is the MB sash, since thats how its earned with MB's
  7. Ask council to see the origonal application. Someone had to sign the blocks for COR and CC. Maybe it was forged? Maybe the COR did sign it and don't remeber. But someone must have signed it.
  8. Packsaddle, The exception to the 18 yr old driver rule only applies to those cases that are listed "area, regional, or national Boy Scout activity or any Venturing event" I don't see troop events listed anywhere in the exceptions. In NY now 16 yr old drivers are restricted by law now from hauling around other teens
  9. For clarification, according to NE regional office an "AREA" is an administrave division of the region. It is even higher than your council. Its who they talk to at region. Each region has several area's in it. So an "AREA" event is not a troop event. wheather we like it or not a 17 yr old is prohibited from driving to unit events, and yes a 16 yr old venturer can drive to a venturing event. Does it make sense? Not to me. The problem would be if you allowed the 17 yr old to drive and pull the troop trailer and he has an accident, bye bye liability insurance from national. T
  10. I am trying to figure out where scouting plays a part in this discussion? bsat4jb No matter what you say your apology will never be enough to the fine soldiers I served with and gave thier life so you can spout your crap
  11. Fscouter, You have to read the whole line, it says "Youth member exception: When traveling to and from an area, regional, or national Boy Scout activity or any Venturing event under the leadership of an adult (at least 21 years of age) tour leader, a youth member at least 16 years of age may be a driver, subject to the following conditions: " This is a TRoop TRailer at a troop event. NO exceptions at troop events, you must be 18 to drive to a troop event. The trailer is not an issue as he can't drive there anyway. If this were almost anything other than a troop event he could d
  12. If you follow the G2SS rules, and these are policy as they are bold no 17 yr can drive to a troop event. In order to drive to troop events you must be 18. The driver must be currently licensed and at least 18 years of age. Youth member exception: When traveling to and from an area, regional, or national Boy Scout activity or any Venturing event under the leadership of an adult (at least 21 years of age) tour leader, a youth member at least 16 years of age may be a driver, subject to the following conditions: Six months' driving experience as a licensed driver (time on a learner's perm
  13. Besides the standard names, They can make thier own, National sells a blank patch for it. Get the Blank one, use Gel fabric pens and have the patrol design its own. We have had the HASH patrol, Glazed doughnuts, and a couple of others before. Also you can get Patrol patches from Australia, They have some really different ones, Tazmanian Devil, Kowala Bears, etc.
  14. dave, and all In our council even at recharter they are requiring a new application for a position change, just the Blue part only. We beleive this is so National will foot the bill for background check like they are in the first 2 years before councils have to start funding it.
  15. Not so many years ago I spent a few years serving in The Old Guard. I agree that the part of disobeying orders was an imbellishment. The part about staying on guard and honoring our fallen hero's was not. These young men stand this post year round in all kinds of weather, driving rain, hotest days, coldest winter. The dedication of these gentlemen is second to none. It was my great please to be able to support them in many ways and to know a great many of the Tomb Guards. While parts of this story may have grown with each retelling, rest assured that there is no more dedicated grou
  16. we also have one of these white canopies we bought at Sams club. The manufacturer of the canopy, Powel & Powell Makes a carry Bag for them. Go to the P&P Site http://www.kingcanopy.com/accessories.html Look for the Carry Bag. You need 2 bags to carry all the poles and covers. Paul
  17. Not only is Mic-O-Say not boy led. It is a closed membership group in that only memebers can nominate people for membership. This defeats the purpose of scouting being available to all. Me personnally, I think its time for National to put its foot down and disband this type of organization in scouting!
  18. After looking at MOS info here and on the web site, I have come to the conculsion that MOS is definatly NOT a youth run program. Maybe someone who is a member can show me otherwise. I am surprised national allowed this program to keep on running as it goes contrary to the Boy run programs of scouting. I also noticed that only memebers may nominated youth or adults. Again contray to BSA Goals, kind of snobish for a BS group if you ask me.
  19. Acco40, When The OA has an event our troop OA represntitive polls the boys and adults as to who is going and registers all those attending. We usually travela s a group and during ceremonies such as ordeal or brotherhood try to get max attendance to support our OA brothers. In addition we the OA memebers of the troop meet periodically to prep the Ordeal members for brotherhood when its time.
  20. acco40, I don't want to get into that timeless discussion on equipment and funds ownership, but before you say a troop doesn't own anything you have to look at the Laws of the state in which you reside. In our state a Scout troop is considered a legal entity by its self. This is not true in a lot of states, biut here the state recognizes the "Troop" as the owner, not the CO. That is why national in its R&R is so vague, cause the laws vary so much from one stae to another. On that note I will say no more on this subject.
  21. NWscouter, we purposely registered it this way along with everything else we have, all our canoes and trailer's, Bike trailers, and a camper. These belong to the troop not the CO. The boys earned the money to purchase them, not our sponsor. We have insurance and it cost hardly anything to insure them. And in all states the the trailer is covered under the towing vehicles coverage for liability. We chose this because a while back there was rocky relations with our CO, they wouldn't cover us, and we considered moving. Things are better now, but we choose to keep it the way it was. Now
  22. http://www.boston.com/news/nation/washington/articles/2003/09/14/embattled_scouts_struggle_to_maintain_funding_ideology/ Nope that's not it
  23. We have a 7X14 and its great. we keep most of our camping equipment in in all the time. Packsaddle is correct about registration, in NY they Allow it to be registered in the troops name using our troop PO box as the address. The CO name is no where on the papers, some state may not allow that.
  24. LV, Sounds like a good idea for preparing for a trip that involves long portages. However, I can see all the stares and laughs when you walk down the street with this rig.
  25. NW, You cannot have a female that is under 21 as a lodge member. Its not allowed in the R&R. If someone did bring one in it is illegal and needs to be corrected
