  1. So how is that different from Beaver Patrol. As a young man that was my patrol name and we had a guy with bino's and a smirk on our patrol flag.
  2. Ahhhh, rules interpretation. We have been told you need a tour permit for any event not at the charter organization. I applaud your efforts. Interesting the SM doesn't like you training the boys. It would seem to me your doing him a favor, less training more fun activities.
  3. Beyond the parents selfish wants for their boys, what are they crossing over too????? It was expressed earlier, they should not get a cross over if they are not going to be a boy scout. It is not proper to ask the troop to give the boys a book and neckerchief if they have no intention of crossing over. They made the choice and must live with it. I would have the parents fill out the scout transfer application with fee before they are allowed to cross over. That would prevent them from just saying they are gonna do it and then back out.
  4. I am Baloo trained, Not an Instructor. But I have some experience with the camping you are asking about. Just trying to help you avoid problems I experienced, trying to be a nice guy and Super Cub Master. Responsible for boys, trip, entertainment, cooking and everything else. Bring parents along just helps out, that way your not responsible for them for the entire weekend. The two examples you posted would depend greatly on the young men. I would start small and not take more than one or two boys without parents. As suggested, and I agree with 100%, another parent needs to
  5. I have seen fantastic ceremony, dinners and awards for the AOL. I have seen the here is your award AOL presentation. IMHO my an authentic arrow, unadorned, Flint, real feathers. There is no protocol for doing it, there is no more official award beyond the card, patch, and knot. follow your own tastes. Just another question. Are we making the AOL a bigger deal than it actually is? It is easy to earn, A couple of weeblo weekend events and a trip to summer camp will more the easily fulfill the activity pin requirements. Then it is just the troop visit and
  6. Cub camping is family camping. I am Baloo trained. A few questions for the experts. So what if you have a boy having some problems and you can't reach is parents or family? Who do you call then? Children services? What is an acceptable cub to adult ratio? Are you looking to babysit for the weekend? More importantly how many boys and how many adults. I would never exceed a 1.5:1 ratio. A story or two........ I spent a very long weekend chasing a couple of young men who wouldn't stay with the group. Their parents and emergency contacts could not be rea
  7. So we are hiking, as remotely as you can in Ohio, It is ok then to spend the hike texting and listening to the MP3 player. But then you miss the sound of water running thru the lime stone boulders, the sound of coyotes howling in the distance, the turkeys gobbling and normal banter of a group having fun. You trade that for the isolation of ear buds and brianna. That is acceptable????????? Of course we are talking venturing and a young lady. We have 7 year old cubs showing up with texting cell phone, very expensive ones at that. The Pack rule is you can have it, but it is off
  8. atheism - the doctrine or belief that there is no God Hmmm, sounds like it is time for the young man to move on.
  9. Just a note, most Cub age boys are not strong enough to manage a flag and staff.
  10. Feeling unwelcome is a long way from fighting. Feel unwelcome find another Pack. Someone in scouting will make you feel welcome. I understand the why they probably didn't feel welcome. The den had been together 3 years by the time they joined.
  11. Feel blessed you only have 6 months of squabbling left. then they will be a scoutmasters problem. The fighting should have been dealt with immediately by the DL, CM, CC and the Parents in a conference. I have survived this and the fighting never gets better till one of the scouts leave, it sounds like the families are taking sides. There is probably an aggressor and it is with in the Packs authority to eject the problem scout. If I had to do it over again, I would act immediately and start the disciplinary process, It cost me a year of aggravation. We lost 6 scouts waiting for the on
  12. Don't make to much information public. I would keep the photo gallery, the calendar and den schedules and rosters private. We have a troop in our district blaming a rash of home burglary's on their website and information on it. Far as Public contact information probably just the CM and CC or Membership Chair if you have one. Sad that it has come to this.
  13. Anyone can be woodbadge alumni http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid=m38.l1313&_nkw=woodbadge&_sacat=See-All-Categories Just as anything can be had for a price. OA patches.
  14. That is BS because the DE said we didn't need a fund raising permit to have a bake sale or sell candy bars.
  15. There is a story that is told with in our council, I cannot confirm it. In our council an eagle scout admitted he was gay and an atheist. He was promptly was thrown out. He sued the council and BSA for it. The Judge asked him when he discovered he was gay and an atheist. The Scout responded for a couple of years, The Judge threw the case out and Took his eagle from him on the basis he lied on the application and when reciting the Oath. I cannot confirm it, but it is a story told openly at round tables. The Commisioners make no effort to support or deny it...... Urban legend,
  16. I read somewhere that the scouts are not allowed to raise money directly for the CO. So what's the difference
  17. Just curious, What is BSA's policy about the Pack giving money to the Charter Organization? I cannot seem to locate one. I just want to see if it is OK or not.
  18. Here is the link to the form http://www.boyscouttrail.com/external_frame.asp?goto=http://www.boyscouttrail.com/docs/formworldconservationcub.pdf
  19. That explains why my uniform cost $100 and books are too expensive.
  20. Lack of Den Meetings? More explanation please. Are you meeting once a month? Just curious. have you spoke with the den leader. I would start with the den leader. Offer to help. As suggested become a den leader next year, run it the way you want. I gave up trying to change packs. Things were much worse elsewhere. We camp as a Pack 4 times a year, we have father son backpack over nighters. We hike once a month. Plus district and council events. Plus all of the other Den trips and meetings. Just couldn't find a pack active enough for us.
  21. Thx 2eagles. That looks like the path we are heading down. He makes me proud every day.
  22. As I mentioned in the other thread my son is a cub so I go to all the outings and meeting. I don't hover cause I have other boys and parents to attend to. He probably gets less attention because I know he can do it, so I focus on the others. Camping, well cubs camp as a family. I have a group of guys I enjoy that I met at roundtable and we have crossed paths at day, resident and district camp. Not to mention day events. I have tried to convince my son to change packs and we have visited the other packs with out success. I would love to form an adult patrol with these guys.
  23. Wow got my own thread spun. My son is a Cub. So I have not had to step back yet. I am aware that day is not that far off. So I need to cut the estimate in half. It is still 4k. A bunch of cash, but not the entire years grocery and recreation budget.
  24. I understand that scouting in the US is turning into yet another rich white club. $6000 for just admission to the even. A couple of uniforms at $125 each with patches. A couple hundred bucks for spending cash. I am not sure what your income level is. A bit of perspective. That is more than I have spent on any vehicle I have ever owned. That is more than I have spent on anything other than my house. That is more than my grocery budget for an entire year. I never considered myself a poor man. Till now.
