  1. In my case, I will not proceed outside of bankruptcy. So this is it, for me. Missouri only occasionally allows the SoL to be tolled by fraud and perhaps that will benefit those who are able to pay or persuade an attorney to try. But it will be an uphill slug with low percentage victories and appeals. Not going to live out the time I have left even trying.

  2. I’ve been putting on a happy face since I read the news on Friday. Visited two troops last night; one of them had a ~15yo SPL who led the entire meeting from flags to closing; not a peep from the adults. This stuff is far beyond our control. But the thing that will help us weather the storm is strong units that provide great scouting experiences to as many youth as possible. I just hope my kids and grandkids have that opportunity.

  3. Your statement is so true in so many ways. The legal process adds damage for everyone. It's hard to watch. Worse, many attorneys and their firms have already been paid tens of millions in this case. Now, it could start over. Bankruptcy cost so far well over $100 million ??? Wishing you the best thru all this.

  4. I was an AOL and eventually a Tenderfoot who then chose hockey on weekends over camping. My 7 yr old working on Wolf seems to be choosing the opposite so I have been helping with his Pack and am starting as Treasurer. Our community (Youngstown, NY) seems to be newer to Cub Scouts but has a growing Pack, it is also a community with a big Junior Sailing program (my son also does) so I made the mistake (LOL) of starting a Raingutter Regatta this summer as I really enjoyed those in my youth. I've been reading this forum for a little bit but finally decided to join. I greatly enjoy read

  5. well, let's see.... Your mom attends free. Scouts do the cooking, or is this "catered"? (that's not very Scouty like, IMO). * You will attend, that's one ticket... *Dad should attend, that's #2. * Any uncles? They should attend (and be hungry). 3, 4 ?? * Aunts? If they are MOMS, they should attend free too. Or.... * Grand dads? Grand MOMS (see above).... Neighbors can be asked. They might be hungry. Any "reputation" for the cuisine? Posters in places? Is the PUBLIC invited to attend and HONOR their mom(s) ? Perhaps an "Honor Roll" of moms

  6. I was impressed that Ortega put up with independent youth organizations for as long as he did. Gotta keep up with the Putins, Pings, and Ils.

  7. One other thing, or two … Practice with a buddy. That will help you build confidence. If he/she can record you all while giving your pitch, that will help a lot and maybe give you a few laughs when you review the film. Then, go with your buddy and with every other customer you take turns giving the pitch while your buddy listens. After a while (like maybe 20 tries) you will see your sales pitch become smoother. Bonus points: if you live in a multi-lingual community, try learning your pitch in different languages. This will require help from a people who speak that language, but

  8. lol. also zhu is my last name. I don't give out my first name online. I think thats a good script, just need to find out what the menu is

  9. Yes, don't use a script. You are really selling yourself, not some tickets. Just know your stuff and talk to people. Connect with them. Or, come up with your own script. You can do it. Here's a teaser... "Hi, my name is Zhu, and I'm a Scout in Troop 4321 here in Malibu. We are putting on a great breakfast for Mother's Day! If you do not have plans already, the breakfast will be at Camp Josepho near Crestwood Hills, at 9 AM on Mother's Day. Tickets are $10 per person, and it is all you can eat! After that big breakfast, you can take a nice walk with your Mom to enjoy the outdo

  10. OK, stop saying "fined." You are not being fined for anything. 1. Having the right attitude is the first tip for selling your tickets. 2. Know your product. What are the menu options? What time does it start? Is it a buffet, cafeteria-style, or served at tables? Is it kosher, or are there vegan or vegetarian options, or some other menu specialties (gluten free, allergy free)? Is it open to non-Scouting families? Will there be alcohol served? (Should be "no", but make sure you know the answer, in case someone asks you.) Are there flowers, gifts, keepsakes, pictures, mementos, in

  11. My mother was a den mother back in the day... scoutmaster, cubmaster and Webelo's leader positions and accompanying assistant positions were not available to her. Today women can and often do hold all of those roles and it is only fitting that girls can join into the program and enjoy the benefits of leadership, character and citizenship training/learning that takes place while they enjoy fun and adventure. No child ever joined to have their character developed... that just naturally happens (sort of sneaks up on them) while they are having fun being given the opportunities to learn, lead and

  12. Possibilities...BSA Troop 713 photo at link: (sorry no spoilers) https://bsatroop713.com/about-us/ "Troop 713 is a scout led troop. The Senior Patrol Leader and their Patrol Leaders Council set the events calendar for the year, plan the troop meetings, and run all of the events. Adults are present for health and safety concerns, to assist the scouts in developing their leadership skills, and to perform duties that require an adult in order to accomplish the task for legal or contractual reasons. The scouts occasionally stumble, but scouting is a a safe environment to learn from our

  14. Pretty sure the fundraising guidelines apply nation wide. No idea other than imposing their will on a Scout as to why they do not allow them to submit their own proposal. In our district the Scout usually works with a mentor, sometimes someone in the same unit, sometimes someone they are comfortable with from outside the unit. Once they are confident everything is ready to go with the proposal the Scout contacts the DAC to set up a meeting (in our case this meeting is frequently just before or during Roundtable) to go over everything and get approval. Once the project is complete it is

  16. Actually, ever since the courts forced the BSA to open their files there have been lawyers and firms that specialized in suing the BSA. They got the statute of limitations thrown out and the flood gates opened. The ineligible volunteer files that helped the BSA for decades keep predators out (prior to the electronic age and national background checks) became a weapon to be used against the BSA. This was and is about a huge 1 Billion $+ payday for lawyers and law firms.

  17. Nothing wrong with "Practice to Master," THEN test. The test should not be a practice session. Little is simple or obvious if one truly understands the skill-has mastered it. "Craftsmanship." Journeyman, not apprentice. "If I don't practice one day, I know it; two days, the critics know it; three days, the public knows it." --Jascha Heifetz (I thought Vladimir Horowitz said that. A Google search ALSO attributed it to Louis Armstrong-enough searching…it is the thought that counts.) As a BSA certified angling instructor, I STILL practice my fishing knots. They are inhe

"Nicaragua’s government has shut down the country's scouting organization and seven other nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), state media La Gaceta reported Friday, the latest in an ongoing crackdown that has seen the government toss out religious orders, charities and civic groups. The Interior Minister, which regulates the operations of NGOs in the Central American country, said the Scouts Association of Nicaragua allegedly failed to report financial statements and accused them of having an “expired” board of directors the government had not renewed since September 2021.
