  1. Sounds like too much trailer for an old truck and going too fast.
  2. Make a plan for each day. Develop patrol and troop spirit. Use the patrol method and have fun.
  3. That's what they get for not using a DISA data center.
  4. I laugh on Sundays during lunch out with friends. The rudest people are those who've just left church. It's not just Christians either. I hope this guy finds a new troop. Would serve the old CO right for losing him. Not a Christian attitude but certainly a Biblical one.
  5. Really? I'll bet that isn't true. Reuse of most things requires approval from the content owner. If you've ever copied a an original work, even a one page sheet, you've potentially violated the law. Who's to say they troop who posts MB pdfs are "aware" of the law? Heck, my district reprints copyrighted stuff all the time and hide beyond the educational use concept, which may not apply. Others use music in videos and presentations on YouTube or elsewhere without written permission. Like I said, ou can hide behind nonintential use, but so can others. Ignorance of the law is not an excuse.
  6. I've learned to ignore professors. Most put people to sleep themselves. Other scouts have no idea what the real world is like.
  7. Having these forms at a CO won't jeopardize their security clearance anymore than it would at a BSA office or in the car of a DE. That's a red herring. Courtesy is to give it back but it won't cause them to lose clearance. As for holding clearance and yet being rejected, I've seen active duty personnel be rejected before. Some because they served in the box and the COis afraid of PTSD or some junk like that.
  8. Ever ripped a CD? Ever saved a DVD to your hard drive? Added music to a presentation? Saved a song as an AAC or MP3 file and shared with someone? Ever posted a mime of a movie or famous picture? Ever watched parts of a movie or tv show on YouTube? Ever created that custom ring tone from a favorite song? Ever made a mixed tape? Ever used a non BSA licensed company to make a troop tshirt or Neckerchief? C'mon, there's not a person on this forum who hasn't violated copyright law. Can we please get off our high horse as if you've never done it?
  9. All docs are likely in a desktop publishing or word processing format to begin with. You could port all Merit badge books in to a common portal, searchable, low storage and bandwidth format. BSA won't because they want money and can't resist shines objects (the current interactive books).
  10. I'll take ticks over rattlers and copperheads any day.
  11. I'd think Swampbase would be closer to national recognition. They have a cool program.
  12. It's called standing up for principles you believe it. If you were against Venturing I doubt you'd tolerate it for your kid if it went agants your principles.
  13. - Youth being able to use proper names and titles when addressing elders. - How to answer the phone or make a phone call. - How to keep oneself occupied when no screens are available. - How to interact with other humans on a date (no screens). - How to carry on a conversation. - Treating strangers with respect.
  14. Councils decided? I think a piece of legislation called the ADA decided that. There was no choice in the matter. Comply or be fined.
  15. I agree. The internet is a wonderful thing but relying on google for your answers is dangerous. Here's the USC which contains the actual language. Can you highlight for me the part of 501©(1) that says "nonprofit"? I can't find it. §501. Exemption from tax on corporations, certain trusts, etc. (a) Exemption from taxation An organization described in subsection © or (d) or section 401(a) shall be exempt from taxation under this subtitle unless such exemption is denied under section 502 or 503. (b) Tax on unrelated business income and certain other activities An organization exempt fro
  16. Sorry, but you either follow rules or you don't. You can't pick to follow only the ones you like. That's not high handedness, that's obidience.
  17. Siri is worse. I sent a note to my dad once using the word "taxes". I won't tell you what Siri put in its place. Needless to say I had to explain a lot when I got home.
  18. @@ParkMan, you said "As the BSA isn't a for profit organization they're not really looking at profit". Boy Scouts is a federally chartered corporation. They are very much for profit. They are NOT a nonprofit. Your CO may be, but BSA itself is not.
  19. Really? You are equating the few disabled scout accommodations with the whole sale addition of women? Come on, you have to see that's a silly comparison. Also, in my camps there are only a few handicap bathrooms and shower facilities. Why? Because there's only ever a few such Scouts. Adding women potentially DOUBLES your need for facilities. Now if you could only require units to be single sex it would be easier.
  20. An update. Appears one of the young men killed may have robbed a girl friend of one of the men charged. The Eagle Scout may have just been in the wrong place at the wrong time. Police: 3 arrested in double-slaying of Maryland teens http://www.foxnews.com/us/2017/06/18/police-3-arrested-in-double-slaying-maryland-teens.html
  21. Our SM does this. It's usually done after a brief summary of what NYLT is. It's been effective in getting Scouts to take the course.
  22. I am an Eagle. Three palms. Got all of them two days before my 18th. I am 21 now. I am also a Brotherood member of OA. I wear my medal or pin at ECOHs as allowed. I DO NOT wear my patch at all. Why? BECAUSE IT IS NOT ALLOWED, and as an Eagle Scout I follow the rules and set the example for others by following rules...even rules I don't like. Why? BECAUSE THATS WHAT EAGLES DO!!! I don't create rules or violate them because I don't like them. @@The Black Eagle, you ask if others are Eagles, as if not being one somehow negates their position on this subject. So I will ask you, what
  23. Rofl..."easily solved with a little money"? So where does this money come from, because our camps have needed upgraded facilities for years. Would this money come from all the new Scouts that will join like the rush of gay scouts and leaders that's joined since 2015? Come on, let's be real. Successful companies don't expect profits on new products UNLESS they've done extensive market research and have numbers to back up their new product line. BSA does not have that. You have assumptions based on conjecture. Where's all the money that was going to flow in to scouting from new members and s
