I love the Camp Card program, 50% into the Scouts/units account. We were selling for 5$ for about 3 years when we realized everyone else was doing 10$ now we are doing 10$ and my son sells around 50 every year.
We just upgraded our training facility as well, all the pictures can be seen at the Chickasaw Council Facebook page. It was needed, however I don't believe the kitchen needed that much upgrading.
Sounds like you have made your mind up, so stop beating your chest and lets just move along. I don't believe anyone where is trying to convince you. My lodge, while it has its down sides, does a lot of community and camp project. Cheerful Service
Krampus I honestly didn't see anything wrong with the bathroom facilities and used them pretty frequently at the home camps. Until recently that's all we had, we just put in 12m into our two camps but I make sure I visit the old latrines.
I am rather upset we spent so much to upgrade our dinning hall, yea its SUPER nice but what's the point have having such a nice dinning hall when all you do is hurry up eat and GET BACK OUTSIDE!
Its a tough decision considering the AOL was the Cubs top award. Hard presses for someone to come in one year and earn it in my opinion. There are some that are dedicated. Its like a 17 year only coming in and earning Eagle
This !!! this is what bothers me more than anything really. 1 that I am a volunteer (and love it BTW) but I laugh because I have to pay to get the training that is required! lol I really laugh. All scouts deserve a trained leader, that I agree with TOTALLY. Just wish Districts could assist with the finances.
Around here (Memphis area) we get a lot to show up and sign up, then at the Parent Orientation when you explain BSA doesn't stand for BabySitters of America and they have to attend as well then you don't see them anymore.
Funny you mentioned that. I am in accounting, Interviewed with a large pharmaceutical co in Memphis and during the interview process the gentleman (now on the county commission) thanked me for my service as a volunteer. Months later while he was running for office he mentioned he was an Eagle Scout. You just never know.
I am really having a hard time with your distdain for volunteers, and then you throw our Silver Beaver under the bus? You never know what 1 statement might mean to someone that is reading a resume, they in fact might have been a Silver Beaver recipient as well.
I don't believe that to be the case, if you're an ourdoorman then why not have more training. OK I get that IF you're just some volunteer! There is a difference in volunteers.
