  1. I need an explanation of what a Blog is, before I can comment on that link...
  2. I dont know why they do not offer any Historic gear either. I miss it. I bought almost all of the Historic gear and literary stuff. Maybe they didn't sell well? Collectors of Historic gear probably jumped on it, but the general masses of scouts...? I know in my Troop out of 40+ scouts, I was the only one that ever purchased anything.
  3. "I believe that Hibernation for the summer is a good activate. " ??? A Scout is a Scout for 365 days a year. I dont think of Scouting a seasonal activity...
  4. FOG says: "I would say that any ceremonial occasion such as Court of Honor, Indunction into the Grand Knights of Snoober, or your wedding would be a time to wear it." I went to a wedding this weekend, and while watching the ceremony, I was thinking to myslef..."I wonder if I can wear my Eagle Scout Medal on my wedding day" I am FAR from getting married, but when I do, my life long best friends are also Eagle Scouts, and what a sight that would be with all of us up their prodly wearing our medals. For all of you married fellas out there, did you wear your Medal on your wedding
  5. FOG, In the past, before the 50's, men also wore garters to keep their socks up. In the early 1900's men also wore gaiters over their shoes but under their pants as part of normal dress clotes. That's what I meant by yester-year, and accessories. It is true though, we are not a country of class when it comes to clothing today. Sweat pants with the boy scout field shirt...ugghh I can't tell you how many times I have seen that. Growing up in my home, I was always taught to dress nice, not like a slob. Some scouts I see have no idea what it means to dress nice, or try to look spiffy in t
  6. Welcome to the Forums! Sounds like a great weekend you had! A new Belt... If you can get a hold of an old waist belt from a car, it makes for a great pack belt. Enjoy the Forums, you will meet great people here! Nope, your right, Scouting never goes away!
  7. That's a good question FOG. ALL I can think of is becuase he was going for a different color scheme, and a differnet style all together.
  8. Ahhh..the tabs. Ok, I know what you are talking about now. Interesting how uniforms from yester-year and even street clothes from the past had so many more accessories than clothes of today.
  9. We live in a world where fashion comes and goes around in circles, where buzz cut hair styles were a thing of the past is now the norm again. bell-bottoms are alive and well again, same with the 80's punk style. Things that were once old and gone, come back all the time. I am impressed by the military when it comes to their uniforms, they are consistant. Some fashions are timeless, like the Marine uniform that FOG discusses. They do NOT have an image problem. This may be because they never tried to change it all that much. They are consistant, when you see those blue threads red s
  10. Some of us here say we like the current BSA uniforms and some of us say we hate them. But aren't we all glad we don't have to wear the new Australian uniform?? I did not see anything wrong with their current uniforms. Although it is an interesting way to identify what division of the scouts you are in...by colours on the sleeves... Between their new uniform and our current uniforms (cubs, boy scouts, venturers, sea scouts, varsity scouts) I choose all of our current styles!
  11. Welcome to the forums Uncleguinea! Neil, you have yellow garters? What do you mean by garter?
  12. The wearer must have short hair to make it look sharp. I have a few red berets in my collection. They are great hats for a dress uniform. In the field? Not so great. Similar to the overseas hat they are both not very practicle hats. But they both sure do look sharp. The beret looks great with the Red Jac-Shirt.

  14. I'm sure Military Epaulets are better use for gloves, hats etc... I have seen a few scouts put their berets in them. I have put my overseas hat in mine, but it didn't look quite right. I usually put my overseas hat in my belt. I believe the Epaulets are mostly for look and style on todays BSA uniform, besides the fact that they represnt what program you are associated with.
  15. Interesting, for the most part it seems the boys all agree on having fun. We had similar answers to a Troop survey we were given as scouts. Most Scouts agreeged meetings were too long, and were boring. They wanted to camp more and go to new exciting places... Although all boys are different, most of them do have similiar interests that can be met by a proper program. Fun is no doubt the goal for all of them to stay involved. I am guessing your Troop is not run by Patrol Method? It seems the Boys are up for the challenge, and some of them need an explanition of what is the Patrol M
  16. I couldn't get my Troop to sing if I paid them! In fact, at every Camporee I have ever been too, almost every year that I was a Boy Scout, I can remember only 2 occassions where other Troops sang. I guess it's not all that popular where I am... Plenty of skits though, some with songs, but very rare to hear a scout Troop singing songs.
  17. Welcome to the Forums Phil! Your joining plenty of great people here!
  18. 1) I have a dark green poncho with BSA buttons on it from my Father who was a Boy Scout in the Early 60's. So I know that Boy Scouts did have an option to wear this poncho in the early 60's. I'm curious why/when they changed the dark green poncho. 2) ? No idea 3)I am not sure of when the BSA discontinued leggings or spats. It may have been during the same time they changed the red piping on the pockets of the pants. And also maybe around the time the field hat (overseas hat) became phased out? These are just gueses though, we will have to wait for the experts for truth. I thi
  19. Although I am not avid supporter of the NRA, I do support the fact that they activily contribute to the BSA. I believe by contributing, both the NRA and BSA can teach the proper use and care of guns and shooting to young scouts.
  20. Aggie: The New Venturing Uniform shorts are great! So are the pants. The only not so great part, is the price! Made in USA though, is worth paying for. But yes, I believe BSA is onto something. The Venturing Pants are durable, and practicle. Pockets galore!
  21. I am in favor of having some kind of bylaws, written rules, or some kind of Troop Guide Book, especially when it comes to discipline problems. For issues that are answered by the BSA, like Uniforms for instantce, I would hope a Troop's rules reflect BSA Rules. But for unspoken rules, it would be nice to have them in writing.
  22. Mike F: "1. Have you ever allowed a person (scout or advisor) to go on the trip against your better judgment and regretted it? " Yes, we had a young scout, not yet first class go on a high adventure backpacking trip. His father complained to high heaven that his son could do it. Our SM from hell, said Ok, agaisnt the wishes of the more qualified ASM's. The scout suffered from severe sun burns, and cried numerous times on the hike. It was unpleasant for everyone, hearing his pig headed father yelling at his son to keep up. Mike F: "2. Same question, but the participant s
  23. To my understanding, if a Crew decides they want to be Uniformed with the Uniform the BSA provides for them ( kelley green short-sleeve shirt with green shoulder loops with charcoal gray shorts or long pants) they can do so. If the Crew decides they do not want to be a uniformed Crew, than they do NOT wear a Uniform. If a Crew decides they should wear blue shorts with a bright orange tee shirt, they can. They can not pick and choose/mix and match BSA uniform items with non BSA uniform items items. Please correct me if I am wrong...
  24. Depends what you mean by trademark? A symbol, person, cartoon? I remember snoopy being on pins with a campain hat and a neckerchief. And, those Cub Scout characters are Cub trademarks, Baloo the bear if I remember correcty? The Fleur-de-lis is a trademark. Thats about all for now... Any others?
  25. FOG, what yould those less polite names for the field cap be?
