  1. This is a spin-off from another thread but I can't find it. I was reading somewhere that officially you can only put the patch on the front pocket...and the one centered on the back. Is this true? I have patches on mine that I inherited from my uncle, who wore it as an Explorer in the 50's. So I have patches dating for 56-03. It looks great and is a favorite in my collection. I wear it proudly. But can I?? Please let me know... I probably still will wear it proudly whatever the answer..but im curious. Yours in Scouting VentureScoutNY

  3. I have an old Yucca from the forties which was my unlces. They are rare, and I have not seen many of them. They are much smaller than the ones from the fifties. They have none of those rings you see on the one you have. I couldn't imagine how they put up what that small thing. I also have my dads from the late fifties early sixties and it is a bigger one, the one I would assume you have. And I bought the one they released from the catolog a few years back. I brought it camping it's not a bad bag. I prefer it better than most normal size day packes. And its a great pack for c
  4. If the government suspects my neighbor of something evil, i would hope they can check it out and do something about it than sit back and say they have the freedom to do shady things. I figure if you are a good citizen you have nothing to worry about concerning the Patriot Act. I've got nothing to hide! and neither should any other law abiding american Yours in Scouting VentureScoutNY
  5. Ok.. backround-->My major in college is public and professional communications..I hope to become a professional scouter.. I am doing a research project for one of my communications courses this semester. My topic, which was sort of molded into this question by my professor.. "How has the image of the Boy Scouts of America changed since the Supreme Court Decesion banning gays from the program" I know it is sort of a vague question but I can work on the question itself if i want, and change it. But I wanted to know if anyone knows of any websites or news articles that dir
  6. All of what I have read are great ways for your son to be successful. Also: Since he is the Troop Historian a scout should be able to ask your son about History maybe about your town or area that your troop covers. This will show to other boys that to hold a position means something, and its not just a patch. Also: Try to advise him to read up on some Boy Scout History. Know the founders etc..and maybe a little about other programs in scouting( sea scouts, venture scouts). Not a lot of course..these are kids. Just a few facts..maybe just that they exist! Goodluck to y
  7. When it comes to policy I have come to the impression that any headgear made by the BSA can be worn with the current unifom. But anyway...since I became a boy scout i wore both the campaign hat and the overseas hat. In fact i became quite noticeable throughout my council for being the scout that wore the overseas hat, since I was the only one who semed to wear one. Anyway I wore it and wore it proudly. I wish they would bring a hat like that back because it makes scouts look a little more official. I got many compliments from adults and scouts alike when i wear it. Recently when I joi
  8. Hi..I'm new to the forums but heres my question. I have read all these posts about Campaign Hats and how to wear them or keep them in good condition. But does all this refer to the old ones the new ones, or non-official ones? I have one from the catolog that i keep in its press and take out for formal occasions. I also just acquired one from i'd date to the forties. So when it comes to the old Vintage ones: How do you keep them flat? or protected from rain without wearing the rain cover. any ideas?
  9. Hi, this is my first post here so I hope it worked.. Yea i think those jackets may had a red dye in them. I have one that i wear from the 50's and the cuffs of my uniform shirt turned red from wearing it in similar conditions. The red came out in the wash though pretty well. Great jacket though!!
