  1. I recently was surfing the web and hit a Troop home page, from another state, with the same Unit Numerals as my Troop... Sort of struck me to wonder what is the science to Unit Numerals? How are they chosen? Does every state have a Troop 1? Seems like just a random drawing from what I have seen in my own council. Any thoughts?
  2. Not sure if anyone follows to HBO TV show the Sopranos, but Sunday nights episode had Sea Scouts walking along the beach with their ships Captain I would assume, and they come up upon a body along the shore. I thought it was an interesting place to see the Sea Scouts on TV, especailly a provocative show like the Sopranos. Did HBO need to ask permission from the BSA to include Sea Scouts in a show? From what I could see, insignia was official.
  3. A Scout is Courteous...
  4. LOL hahaha..very funny KS! I hear ya on that Proud Eagle!
  5. This post reminds me of a laugh we all had in my troop one night. I was the SPL, and held frequent uniform inspections, because our troop was a little slow when it came to wearing the full unifrom. After patrol elections, the first ever in my troop, my best friend was elected a patrol leader. We used a point system uniform inspection sheet, and the more points the entire patrol had went to earning a bead for thier patrol flag at the end of the month. The most beads would earn the patrol some kind of award; snacks, movie tickets ect... My best friend though would never sew on his
  6. sst3rd, "Then the Troop has a new SPL election, and the new SPL again selects his assistant." sst3rd Correct. If he chooses to leave they will both step down. Hopefully that can be avoided though, especially if he has not finished his 6 months. If he has already completed his 6 months and is ready to step down than disregaurd the following. Competition should not be alive between the SPL and ASPL. They should be working as a team. That's why he picked the ASPL isn't it? I can understand a boy who wants to hold the reigns, as this SPL and ASPL are in battle for. Try to
  7. I hear ya on that FOG. So maybe my Troop will camp near by as a scouting family. IMO the patch isn't a big deal really. If we go, we go. We don't need a patch to show it off. On the other hand, some scouts like to show where they have been. I belive even if they visit, they should still be able to wear the patch. To send a scout for that price could be a burden on some families. $1,200 per person... Most of my fellow scouts, as young men, can not afford this. $1,200 to "officially" attend jambo OR pay bills, college, car, phone bill, apartment bill ect... I'll be camping n
  8. I wonder why they would not allow Troops to camp near by. Swindling...?
  9. Interesting. My Troop was thinking about going just as visitors due to the expense. We were thinking about camping nearby for a few days. Eamonn, I would hate to think that scouts would "sneak" in on some events. That's not fair to anyone and not right. I would hope scouts are better than that...but I suppose theres always a few of them. Can visitors still sport the patch on their unifrom?
  10. I was just curious, if one was attending the Jamboree not as a participant, but as a guest, what if any are the advantages/dis-advantages. In other words, if one was to attend the Jamboree as a guest, is it still a good experience?
  11. Trail Pounder that sounds great! I'm jealous I am not surrounded by individuals with as much gusto as you and your scouts!
  12. When it comes to some kind of ceremony for officer inductions I would assume it would be similar to Troops. Troops do not have any specific ceremony plan for Pl's, or SPL's. Some have some kind of induction and some may not. It's up to the Troop, as it would also be up the the Crew. Correct me if I am wrong, but to my knowledge there is no written ceremony. What and how have you awarded Venturers who have earned the Bronze Award, Gold award, Silver award, or Ranger award? Have you held some kind of ceremony for them? If ceremonies for awards are not written, maybe it is up to e
  13. Venturing is still somewhat new. Give it time to develop. I have been asked if I was an Explorer when I am in my Venturing uniform by an adult Scouter. I suppose not everyone is too familiar with Venturing yet. "Council VOA is having a Beachfest this summer" Sounds like your council is paying attetion to Venturing if they are organizing events. "Venturing is a part of the traditional part of BSA" This confuses me. Venturing is similar to past programs, but it is not a traditional program itself, it is NEW. Please correct me if I am wrong. "How we get the mes
  14. Welcome to the forums Daveeby! I bet you have some great stuff in the Scouting museum. I have never been to one, wish I have. What are sone other items that stand out in the museum? Do you have a webpage for the museum?
  15. True, I should have posted this in Issues & politics, my mistake. TP, I understand what your saying. It's importatnt to stay the course and complete a mission. But I believe Mr. Berg believed his son had his own mission, to do some good in this world. Lend a hand, and make a difference. I am with you though, if any civilian friends of mine wanted to go over there I would try my best to keep them here, but some people need to do what they have to do. If he was over there looking to make a "quick buck" I was not aware of that...
  16. The Large Eagle Scout rank Patch. For all of you Eagles out there, if you have the large patch, what have you done with it. A buddy of mine gave me one as a sort of welcome home from college present. I this it's cool since it's so big, and now I'm trying to think of what to do with it, put it on a coat? in a book? ect... Any ideas?
  17. This morning on CNN, Nick Berg's (the contractor who was be-headed in Iraq) father spoke out today to reporters. He explained how Al-Quida killed a friend by killing Nick Berg, and how he was there to help re-build Iraq, and not tear it down. He described his son as peaceful and giving, and how he was against violence. He said his son quit the BSA because he did not want to "fire handguns" after his troop was invited to tour some kind of military base. I thought that was Interesting...just thought I'd share. Correct me if I am wrong though, but I thought handguns were off limits t
  18. Interesting links, thanks for sharing. Great to see Scouting stayed alive during Saddams years in power.
  19. I need to register, but where do I do it? Online?
  20. Still hoping someone knows how I can fix the . "Do you wish to be notified via email when there is a reply to this thread?" issue. I am checking it, and my mailbox is still empty. Will Terry respond to a Private message?
  21. That website is basically anti BSA. It is biased even when it discusses both sides of the debate. IMO
  22. Ahhh..thatnks for pointing that out Hops. Hopefully Terry will see that. Maybe it has something to do with the lack of response e-mails? Has anyone else tried to click that box and not recieved an e-mail?
  23. I remember wearing when I was a Tiger wearing the orange shirt. We used to have the iron-on paw prints. Do they still do that? Kenk, I hope your pack has some kind of uniform exchange. A hand-me down program would be great for all the young scouts that grow out of their uniforms.
  24. Thanks Zahnada. It still reads that this post has been read 0 times. That can't be possible since I know you read it. I have alos not recieved any mail that says you responded. I have no idea what is wrong.
