  1. I get the same message, too, once in a while.
  2. A simple word to the two of them with the SM and CC and the COR. I do not see why they cannot be leaders or even forbid them from camping at the same event. They made a mistake, they realized it and want to correct it. As to the parent that wants "blood", tell them that it has been taken care of, and it is not their concern (or business), but thank them for their watchful eye. Pete
  3. Isn't it true that with the various places that refuse to allow Scouts to use their places because the BSA discriminates, in itself a discriminatory action in itself? They are saying that we don't want you because of the same reason you won't allow ___________ (fill it in)?
  4. The dad needs to be trained BEFORE taking on the role of ASM. He NEEDS to understand the Scout ways, otherwise, he could just become another leader of a Webelos 3 troop.
  5. You have never tried foil-pack meals, or pie baked in a alum. pie plate, or even used foil to help in clean-up by covering the bottom of a pot/pan/grill?
  6. --->>>>>Movie Nights? Borrow or rent a Digital projector and show the movie on the building side, have a family night movie picnic. Sell popcorn and cider too!
  7. >>So, If he doesn''t care to have contact with the leaders of his troop, then he is considered "in-active".>So, If he doesn''t care to have contact with the leaders of his troop, then he is considered "in-active" in OUR troop.
  8. Actually Long Haul, what National has said is: a.) The Scout is considered to be active in his unit by the following definition of Active: A Scout will be considered active in his unit if he is: 1.) Registered in his unit (registration fees are current). 2.) Has not been dismissed from his unit for disciplinary reasons. 3.) Is engaged by his unit leadership on a regular basis (Scoutmasters conference, participation in unit activities, through personal contact, etc.). So, If he doesn''t care to have contact with the leaders of his troop, then he is considered
  9. He is engaged by his unit leadership on a regular basis (Scoutmaster conference, informs the Scout of upcoming unit activities, through personal contact, and so on). Isn''t the "Leadership" also considered to be the SPL or PL, in addition to the SM?
  10. edited due to the dreaded double post problem(This message has been edited by PeteM)
  11. ...and here I thought that the reason for the current Global warming is due to the fact of the large amounts of methane gas that our political leaders and leader wannabe''s are currently emitting.
  12. OGO, This is how my troop defines the role''s: +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ SCOUTMASTER''S RESPONSIBILITY IN THE TROOP The Scoutmaster shall be in charge of the program side of the Troop only. He will carry out his expected duties at Troop meetings, attend committee meetings, participate on camping trips and service projects, and sign off a Scout on mastered skills for his rank advancement. The Scoutmaster will work in close association with his assistants to provide a quality program for the boys. The Scoutmaster needs be notified of all program or schedule changes, inc
  13. TV? YES, without question. Scouter.com? NO!!!!!!!!!
  14. Pulse returning to normal, sweat drying up...that is good. What happened?
  15. It sounds like they use it when they are going to be having poor participation on an outing, and rather than revamping the troop into other patrols, they would use this method. I can''t see it as a permanent solution, but something to use once in a while, since you really need do need to be concerned about rank stuff. As OGO said, this is a better alternative to summer camp dining hall cooking. You could also use this idea for a "family" type outing, where the Scouts can show off to their parents different cooking skills in a shorter amount of time. This sounds like a prog
  16. OGO, Sounds like your troop is scout led, good for you in allowing your scouts to try different things, even though they might not work, or are part of the "norm", what ever that is. Let us know how the cook off program works out and what other activities your troop did on that campout, and who won the cooking contest. Good luck and don''t let "them" get you down. Pete added on edit: don't be so picky about spelling errors. Thomas Jefferson used to say that he "has nothing but utter contempt for those that think that there is only one way to spell something".(This message h
  17. So John, I guess that your boys don''t go to dinning hall summer camp like OGO mentioned, UNLESS ALL of your boys have finished First Class cooking, RIGHT???
  18. As far as the med''s go, try giving him Mountain Dew or STRONG coffee (with his Mom''s permission, of course). The caffeine is a stimulant that is similar to the normal ADHD medications, to see if that helps. You never know, maybe, if the mom sees that it helps her son, she will take him to the doctor for some regular medication. You can also use this method if, at the end of the normal day, the meds have started to wear off, to give them some caffeine, to "take the edge off". (all this with the parents permission). Just something to try. Pete
  19. I am guessing.... it is going to be a smoked (read that as pink)ham, right?(This message has been edited by PeteM)
  20. >>>>Have a competition to see which patrol can cook, eat, and clean up the quickest.
  21. How about troops that have CD''s (NOT the music or data types ) or savings accounts?
  22. Scouters NEVER joke about food. I''ll give it a go and let you know.
  23. Ham Roasted in a Watermelon.... Care to give more details? Sounds yummy.
  24. They would have left anyway. I guess that they were looking for a summer vacation so they could just play like they were in cubs.
  25. How about a change to the communication merit badge? A requirment that goes something like this:? ++++++++++++++++ List the ways that information is transmitted in your troop and ways that you might be able to improve upon them. Become the main (or one of the main) message movers in your troop to make sure that everybody is informed of all that is happening in your troop. +++++++++++++++++++++++++ just a thought.
