  1. Another Sad Day...... Please join me in remembering a great icon. Veteran Pillsbury spokesperson, The Pillsbury Doughboy, died yesterday of a severe yeast infection and complications from repeated pokes to the belly. He was 71. Doughboy was buried in a slightly greased coffin. Dozens of celebrities turned out, including Mrs. Butterworth, the California Raisins, Hungry Jack, Betty Crocker, the Hostess Twinkies, Captain Crunch and many others. The graveside was piled high with flours as long-time friend, Aunt Jemima, delivered the eulogy, describing Doughboy as a man who "never knew ho
  2. If God didn't want us eating animals, why did He make them out of meat? (edited for spelling)(This message has been edited by PeteM)
  3. One thing that your troop "might" want to work on >>together
  4. Oh, Come on, guys Lighten up a bit. I posted this to brighten things up just a tad. As some of my scouts say..go wid da flow.
  5. I was sent this by a Scouter friend of mine. She is very concerned about this stuff in that it is found on every one of our campouts and activities. She said that her hair dresser said that she used a bit of this material when she cleans my friend's blonde hair and started talking about some of the dangers of it. I thought that you Scouters would find this interesting. http://tinyurl.com/3gejd Frequently Asked Questions About Dihydrogen Monoxide (DHMO) What is Dihydrogen Monoxide? 6. UUUmmmmmm Berger Cookies and Coffee. That is just about perfect. Even BP would approve You can order them from here: http://www.bergercookies.com/order.html Pete
  7. WOW! Lot's of excellent advise and info. (To paraphrase a member of this board: I love this Scouter website stuff)
  8. How about if the boy wasn't a paid staff member, but a CIT. What would you-all do then?
  9. He Made a Mistake - Will You Turn Your Back on Him? >>> NO!!! Unless I'm mistaken, isn't Boy Scouts the BEST place for someone that has realizing that he had done wrong, then admitted his mistake to the Scoutmaster? Would you rather have him hide it? By having him realize his mistake, what the committee >>should
  10. WOW!!! You are right. Who woulda thunk that to ship a dilethiam crystal powered stove across 10 parsec's would cost THAT much
  11. It looks like a good stove to bring along for emergency use. Like the site states, what would you do if you 1 - Ran out of fuel? 2 - Stove froze up? 3 - Stove dropped and damanged? 4 - Fuel leaked inside you pack? Also, If the fuel that you are using for you other stoves isn't considered "natural", what planet did it come from then?
  12. QUOTE: When it becomes easier to pull them instead of pushing them /QUOTE Added in edit: Something from another site(This message has been edited by PeteM)
  13. In your opinion, what does boy run or boy led mean? I was having this discussion with one of my scouts a couple of weeks ago, and we are trying to come up with an answer that we could share with the troop. Thanks, Pete
  14. scoutldr wrote The MB program, when used properly, is designed to do several things...reinforce the method of Adult Association, teach the scout planning and initiative, get outside his comfort zone by contacting a stranger to make an appointment, and to introduce him to a wide range of "experts" who can share the passion for their chosen vocation or hobby. Very seldom do you get that when "Joey's Mom" (or Dad) is the counselor for 13 merit badges, all spoon-fed by the troop. What do you do if you have a MBC that signs up to be a merit badge counselor, mainly to see his son advance? Thi
  15. Editorial comment - It really is a dumb requirment, but it is a requirment. Mark How about a requirment that has the scouts bring coffee for their leaders? That makes as much sense as the new requirment # 11

  17. It sounds like it is a tradition for a select few that just want to go home early and leave the clean-up for the ones that stay behind.
  18. Thanks, That is what I am going to do, is to tell the Scout about the forgotten requirement and see if he will complete it, even though he is First Class. I am also getting some stickers made up to place into those scouts whose Handbooks do not have the requirement listed. Pete (Added in edit) ebay is a nice place to get bargins, but there is usually a reason for them being there, in this case, outdated Handbooks.(This message has been edited by PeteM)
  19. I've done it now. I passed a scout on his First Class WITHOUT the scout having had done the new requirment of "telling a boy about scouting" (11. Tell someone who is eligible to join Boy Scouts, or an inactive Boy Scout, about your troop's activities. Invite him to a troop outing, activity, service project or meeting. Tell him how to join, or encourage the inactive Boy Scout to become active.). The BOR then also passed the scout. The scout's book was an older one and did not have the requirment listed, and being old, I forgot about it. What to do now?
  20. What would you all do IF a scout had already earned the Eagle rank, then he did some criminal activities that he had to pay a fine for?
  21. >>>> Pendatic mode: The BSA discourages the military term of "class A" and encourages "official Boy Scout uniform".
  22. Wouldn't it be great if National would have some "extra" or replacement pants legs, so one could pick and choose the lengt that they need, or on another slant, if (read that as WHEN) the boys lose their pant legs, there would be replacements? Nah, that would make way too much sense. Can't be done.
  23. What is your stand on what comprises a Class "A" uniform? If a Scout decides to wear 'almost' Class "A", except for his neckerchief, and uses his Scout bolo tie instead, would he be considered in Class "A"? We have a couple of Scouts in my troop that like to "push the envelope" whenever thay can, and NOT wear their neckerchief's, but say that since their bolo's are official scout issue, they can use it instead. What do you think?
  24. How is the troop functioning? Is it Boy Run or do you want it to be Adult run? Are the Scouts advancing and are they enjoying being part of the "Game with a Plan"? What do the Scouts feel the role of the adult leaders should be?
