  1. It appears that the obama administration (mr. community organizer), wants the Eagle CEREMONY date and doesn't care when the youth actually EARNED his Eagle. I checked another site and this is the response people are getting.
  2. Owl, You said it yourself...he breaches the Scout Law. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Scout Oath (or Promise) On my honor I will do my best To do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law; To help other people at all times; To keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Since he doesn't follow the Scout Law, how can you sign him off with the SMC? He is swearing on HIS HONOR to obey the Scout Law, not just some of it, but the entire Scout Law. Not obeying the Scout Law? You hav
  3. WOW!!, Thanks for all of the info. It looks like a lot better material and ideas than that old vhs video (plus the fact, who still has a video tape player anyway). Pete
  4. Just that, How do you do the youth leader training for your troop? The SM of this troop is not really doing anything, other than doing the old VHS video training? He says that there is not much out there to help him. How could I handle this and help him train the youth of this troop. Pete

  6. I know it does and so do you, but there ARE people that believe that we should award the rank solely on the youth having completed the "written" requirements. They believe that anything outside of that is "adding to the requirements". The rank of Eagle is not only the written requirements, but ones of character as well.
  7. Well, to put it REAL bluntly, since an Eagle Scout is "supposed" to be the cream of the crop, the best of the best, the 2 - 3 % of all Scouts, would you want a scout to be awarded the rank of Eagle, while he was waiting for his EBOR, having just been arrested for date raping your daughter? I mean he completed everything else and rape is not part of the requirements and we don't want to add to them, either. How about a person that finished everything but his SM conf. and his EBOR, being part of a drug ring? Do you consider these scouts to be Eagle material?
  8. >>>>"There is no parent who wants to get a phone call where they hear that their child no longer has two good seeing eyes because there was a scuffle and someone pulled out a knife," said George Evans, the school district board's president.
  9. I know what you mean. I have a troop where my step son attends where the father is paying his son $50.00 per merit badge and $100.00 for Star, $200.00 for Life and $400.00 for Eagle. This "scout" is a royal PIA, and does pretty much the same things as your scout: improper uniform, changes at the church when he gets there, won't wear it when the troop is fund-raising (even though he is the ONLY one that doesn't have it on). I sure wish that the SM would do something, since the other scouts are seeing this and are starting to rebel as well. Pete
  10. True, snopes can be wrong, just like we ALL can be wrong, RIGHT? I use it just to show another viewpoint and a chance to get you all to check your sources before you make any claims. Pete
  11. :Jackie PAPER and the song was about PUFF? What do you think they were singing about? A boy and his magical dragon? Hello, anybody from the 60's out there? " How about we check out this link http://www.snopes.com/music/songs/puff.asp Pete
  12. I am hearing rumors from my neighboring state of PA that they are looking to merge 2 of their councils, Keystone Council and York-Adams Area Council. Why would they want to do this? I mean, Baltimore Area Council could certainly be split into 2 or three councils, it is that big, but why would they want to merge 2 councils into one? What would be the benefit to the youth? Pete
  13. I like OGO's method. The new shirts do not have buttons, just Velcro. Pete
  14. This is a bit of a different twist on the old "lost blue card" stories. I have a scout that says that he finished 2 different merit badges with the same MBC, (took them during a time when the troop did merit badges during troop meetings), the whole class passed the badges, except this scout didn't get his. The MBC recently moved away, without leaving any forwarding address, taking with him any info about the badges. I trust the Scout when he says that he completed them, as well as the others in the troop that took the badges with him. What would you-all recommend? Pete(This me
  15. Isn't that one of the things that Baden-Powell hated? Merit badge mills (or as he called it, Tent School). Let the Scouts have a chance to "goof-off" while at camp. Soon they will be busy with schools and with jobs and these days will be gone forever. Pete
  16. "well you have to do service solely in the name of OUR GROUP in order for us to recognize it." Where is this rule written down? Is it at the national level, council or district level? or is it solely at the troop level? If it is at anything other than at the national level, then it is adding to the requirements and NOT permitted.
  17. I believe it is service that helps non-profit groups, that is to say helping a farmer bring in a load of crops and then helping him take those same crops to a local food bank would be considered community service, but helping that same farmer with his crops so that farmer would sell them for his own profit would NOT be considered community service.
  18. What Scout Spirit isn't he showing? Is he showing good Scout spirit, or is he showing BAD Scout spirit? The requirement states show Scout Spirit. It doesn't say what KIND of Scout spirit he has to show, does it? One solution is to go a far distance to camp without the father (Let's see how well little Hubert can do without daddy).(This message has been edited by Petem)
  19. We always wear class A to outings, and class B from, as per instruction from my charter. They really like to see "their" Scouts in uniform. Pete
  20. Have you all noticed that f_cbb and xlpanel sound very much alike, like they might be the same person?
  21. xlpanel, Thank you for your clarification. Yes, you are correct. That's what I asked and what I didn't want was the moral high road as how it is wrong, etc. I wasn't even asking about the porn mags, just the electronic version of the stuff. Pete
  22. Many thanks to those that answered my questions. I do wish that those that want to hijack the thread would simply do a spin-off where there could be more direct responses instead of cluttering up the thread. Thanks again Pete
  23. An easy way to do this, I guess, is to ask the Scout to show these pictures to his Grandmother and she what she says.
  24. Thanks for all of the responses. It will be a big help in addressing this situation within the troop. To xlpanel, you state that 99.5% of porn is legal. At what age, sir is it legal in your country? In the USA, you have to be at over 18 years old in order to have legal possession of the material. At last check (my math might be a bit on the rusty side), the scouting movement in this country goes from 6.5 to 18. That means to me that any scout that has it is in a legal situation of handling material for someone older.
