  1. How would you handle pornography found at meetings/campouts? These kids today have many more ways to get this stuff and hide it than ever before. They can store this stuff on their media players, after downloading it from the 'Net, as well as it being sent to their cell phones by their friends, girl friends via "sexting", which is sending nude pictures of themselves to others. Does your pack/troop/crew have a no pornography policy? How would you handle this, other than banning these electronic devices? Pete (edited for content)(This message has been edited by PeteM)
  2. What are your thoughts on having a camporee dedicated entirely on seeing how many meritbadges the boys can earn in a weekend, with prizes going to that effect? A troop in a neighboring district has been doing a small version for years and now that district wants to do it. Pete
  3. Here are a couple sayings four our scouts that they can depend on: while ( ! ( succeed = try() ) ); $DO || ! $DO ; try try: command not found Anybody think of some others? Pete
  4. So, what exactly are the duties of a Troop Committee Chairperson?
  5. They look neat. Do you have sheath's to go with your sheath knives? Pete
  6. Part of the problem with that is that I just became scoutmaster recently, so I don't really know the youth in question, or his up-bringing in scouting.
  7. The Scout in question is a "paper" scout, that is to say that he does the written requirements, but doesn't want to do anything about character building. He has about 35 merit badges, but they were done with his dad for the most part. In watching and trying to interface with the youth, I can certainly see why he would get less than positive reviews.(This message has been edited by Petem)
  8. Since "Letters of reference" are not required, what happens when an EBOR gets 4 bad "Letters of reference", that do not recommend the scout for Eagle, that they do not see this scout being a good scout, much less that an Eagle scout, and then fails the scout for that reason?
  9. What would happen if all of the ref. letters come back negative, that is to say, none of them can see the candidate being an Eagle Scout.
  10. What kind of prohibition could keep "the keeper of the Charter" from sitting where he wants to?
  11. When I click on the word "info" in the Commercial Links section, I get this: http://www.scouter.com/compass/yellowPages.asp?id=177 Something about being "hacked" What does it mean? Pete
  12. The Insignia Guide doesn't show on the adult uniform NAME TAGS either, does it? SO, since it doesn't show name tags, then we must remove them. Same reasoning.
  13. How about 10 minutes, providing that he uses very small carrots? It is SUPPOSED to be about how well you can handle "hot water", not some sort of cooking class.
  14. The flag poles were wood. We thought that if it was being cancelled, that someone would have come around to tell us. I can see that we were wrong (translate that as STUPID) in going. (This message has been edited by PeteM)
  15. I was at a camporee this past weekend and on Saturday, before the opening ceremonies got under way, the camporee director had a scheduled SPL meeting to go over the camporee events, as well as give out some general camporee information. When my spl got back to camp, he said that the camporee director said that due to the weather (It was raining very heavily as well as a thunderstorm going on), that the morning flag ceremony and opening ceremonies were being canceled. I told the SPL that we were going to the parade grounds anyway. When we got there, there were about 5 other troops present and w
  16. One question I would ask is: Are you ready to have about one hour a week left for your family? This isn't a joke question, but one that asks how much time a week the candidate is willing to give to the troop. We all know that it isn't one hour a week is all it takes to be a scout leader, I mean, the troop meetings alone are 90 minutes long. Something for the candidate to think about. Pete
  17. OGO, I really liked the poem called "The Bridge Builder" It is one that I can read by myself without any problems, but when I tried to read it at a Court of Honor recently, I got all choked up. (as did a few of the other Scouters in the room). Thanks for sharing. Pete
  18. The Scout (NOT TheScout) should keep HIS cards, after all, they are his cards. If the MBC from summer camp kept them, how could the Scout expect to get them back when the MBC goes back to college or wherever?
  19. Bump, Because it has been almost one year, and I would like to know the outcome. Pete
  20. Did some post diving and dredged up this gem. How would it relate to the new uniforms coming out?
  21. The POR does not have to have been done consecutively. Perhaps he did it a bit here and a bit there, but only the Scout can tell you if the records do not.
  22. What is meant by Direct Contact? I keep hearing about certain leaders having Direct Contact with the youth, and others that don't. Who has Direct Contact and why don't others have it? Thanks Pete
  23. PETA What's the problem here? Doesn't PETA stand for: People Eating Tasty Animals?
  24. How about family members of a registered Scout or Scouter?
