I think that has basicly become a nonexistent rule- no flag on athletic uniforms. It also states that flags werent to be printed on T-shirts. Guess what-they are now.

Are you a backpacker or a car camper?
hops_scout replied to KoreaScouter's topic in Camping & High Adventure
We are definettly car campers. I dont think we ever have done backpacking, but we're doing it last weekend of May:) I cant wait -
We've done that more times than worth counting

Backpacks -- Internal vs External frame
hops_scout replied to Mike F's topic in Camping & High Adventure
I have recently gotten an internal frame pack which works fine for me. I havent taken it backpacking yet, but for weekend campouts, it is great. -
We did a Scout show last year at a local mall. I dont know much about it, but our troop did an oriteering course in the mall and at a local council camp.
-
Sounds great... only problem is that we are a small town, about 8-9 thousand and there are two troops though the other one I have heard very little about. This sounds like a thing to do with Cub Scouts though. They are "sold" more due to things they do. I have tried promoting scouting as much as possible in ways such as the internet, wearing scout shirts, etc.
-
Sounds like a good idea.... just how to do it?
-
I wear a scout shirt almost every other day. I am proud to wear my troop shirt to school. And let me tell you the question I got from one boy on our PLC, " You wear that to school?" It's like, " Yeah." About scholarships, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts will get you scholarships if you try. My oldest sister got her Gold Award in Girl Scouts 7 years ago and had many offers. I have looked at West Pointe and they have seperate categories for Scouting. Even being an SPL will help. You become EAGLE, and they will come find you.

Could somebody give me more information on the different first aid courses out there please?? Thanks

Here is how I, as a 14 year old, feeling on this: Sports and scouts are an essential part of my life. Ussually, sports come before scouts because I play on school teams and if it is a game, I'll get in trouble for not going. I think if we were having a practice and a campout on the same weekend, I would probably be able to go on the campout. I dont know, hasnt happened yet. Some boys are more suited for sports while others are more suited for scouts. Some, like I, are in the middle. They need both.

Mike, With the coffee can, fill it with water to add to the challenge.

It doesnt look too bad. But did you have to post in every section??? That is what some people would call spam.
-
I know all those answers except what spats are. Oh well.

I found this waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay down at the bottom of the lists, but was bored... My Uniform Choice would be: Meetings, COH, etc: official shirt, red beret, olive BDU pants Honor/ Color Guard: same as above, but add white gloves and shiny black boots Camping: BDU clothing in olive drab with red troop shirt underneath, olive boonie hat, black boots such as jungle boots or tactical boots

Thought you might like this from another thread: The American Military Man This is really powerful. Whether or not we agree with the war with Iraq, the troops deserve all the support we can give them. The average age of the military man is 19 years. He is a short haired, tight muscled kid who, under normal circumstances is considered by society as half man, half boy. Not yet dry behind the ears, not old enough to buy a beer, but old enough to die for his country. He never really cared much for work and he would rather wax his own Car than wash his father's; but he has never collected unemployment either. He's a recent High School graduate; he was probably an average student, pursued some form of sport activities, drives a ten year old jalopy, and has a steady girlfriend that either broke up with him when he left, or swears to be waiting when he returns from half a world away. He listens to rock and roll or hippo or rap or jazz or swing and 155 Mm Howitzers. He is 10 or 15 pounds lighter now than when he was at home because he is working or fighting from before dawn to well after dusk. He has trouble spelling, thus letter writing is a pain for him, but he can field strip a rifle in 30 seconds and reassemble it in less time in the dark. He can recite to you the nomenclature of a machine gun or grenade Launcher and use either one effectively if he must. He digs foxholes and latrines and can apply first aid like a professional. He can march until he is told to stop or stop until he is told to march. He obeys orders instantly and without hesitation, but he is not Without spirit or individual dignity. He is self-sufficient. He has two sets of fatigues: he washes one and wears the other. He keeps his canteens full and his feet dry. He sometimes forgets to brush his teeth, but never to clean his rifle. He can cook his own meals, mend his own clothes, and fix his own hurts.. If you're thirsty, he'll share his water with you; if you are hungry, his food. He'll even split his ammunition with you in the midst of battle when You run low. He has learned to use his hands like weapons and weapons like they Were his hands. He can save your life - or take it, because that is his job. He will often do twice the work of a civilian, draw half the pay and Still find ironic humor in it all. He has seen more suffering and death then he should have in his short lifetime. He has stood atop mountains of dead bodies, and helped to create them. He has wept in public and in private, for friends who have fallen in combat and is unashamed. He feels every note of the National Anthem vibrate through his body While rigid attention, while tempering the burning desire to 'square away' those around him who haven't bothered to stand, remove their hat, or even stop talking. In an odd twist, day in and day out, far from home, he defends their right to be disrespectful. Just as did his Father, Grandfather, and Great-grandfather, he is Paying the price for our freedom. Beardless or not, he is not a boy. He is the American Fighting Man that has kept this country free for Over 200 years. He has asked nothing in return, except our friendship and understanding. Remember him, always, for he has earned our respect and admiration With his blood. RANGERS LEAD THE WAY

I would improve both council camps that we have and maybe buy another. Make better bathrooms, dining hall and build a pool at Camp Joy. Increase the difficulty and add trails at both camps. Make a more teamwork oriented camp at Camp Vandeventer.

Zahnada, I wasnt clear about that... We have a great military, the best in the world by far, because we all like are Constitution and Bill of Rights and so forth therefore we must be ready to defend our freedoms. This became inimint last year with 9/11 and I think we have so far succeeded in Afghanistan.

I am very interested in this kind of thing because I want to serve my great country in any way possible. Also, the fad that I have gotten into would be making websites about 2 and a half years ago. This I am glad about. Rangers Lead the Way

Scout66, www.bravepages.com for hosting www.cjb.net for a subdomain name Both sites are free. Also, check with your ISP, you may receive space from there. Like mine would be www.htc.net/~hopper though there is no site there so you know.

Yeah OGE I'm actually 14, but close enough. It doesnt bother me what other people think (that's their right and progative) but it really isnt the right thing to do especially at a scout-oriented website. Everybody, except for maybe that professor at Columbia University who wants US servicemen and women killed in Iraq, want the troops to come home soon. This includes the people who are pro-war. Sorry to respond late, but of course you have to follow the rules. How do you explain to a younger scout that your adults dont have to follow rules, but he does?? It is a simple YES.
