Troops can make their own hats and t-shirts. Why shouldnt a pack be able to make their own hats? ours has their own t-shirts. Venture Crews get to decide on what their uniform consists of even. Why shouldnt the packs get to have their own hats to tell who they are a little bit more. I like uniforminity too, but think units should have some indivuallallity (sp).

FOG, If our uniform sucks (pants do), handbook sucks(wrong), and most policies suck, what doesnt in your opinion? That is about everything. I think the program is great! Pants could see improvement, but like it has been said, you cant please everyone all the time. "I can only please one person a day, and today is not your day. Tomorrow doesnt look too good either." Terry, I think it's time this thread is locked. It is starting to get out of hand and outside of the Scout Law and Oath.

West Point is 5 years active duty afterwards, and I believe some reserve duty as well, but not sure. Hey, it is a very good education and a way to serve your country as said in the Scout Oath, " ....duty God and my country...."

USMA offers a free ride to lots, not just scouts. Being Eagle or an SPL helps get you into there. I'm guessing the Air Force and Naval colleges do too, dont know. When my sister got her Gold Award in Girl Scouts, she got several offers. I, too, am just going into high school pretty much starting next week with football camp and all.

I kind of remember that. In the newspaper, lately there has been stories from 93. I live basicly up the bluff from Valmeyer.

EAGLEDAD, I think all are being punished from this. Bob for possibly giving up something he must enjoy doing (why else would he do so), FOG for seem to have being attacked, the forum for not listening to Bob, and the scouts in our troops, packs, crews, etc for not knowing an easier way, etc. Bob, please come back.

St Louis summers are horrible. I was in Little Torch Key, Florida last week.. it was hotter and more humid in St Louis than it was in the Keys!! I carry my Camelbak with me and at camp two weeks ago, I drank 2 gallons of water, it was so hot.

I too have become old enough to join a Venture Crew and plan to do so in the soon coming weeks. About 12 year olds in a Venture Patrol, I think the leadership ( PLC) should make a few requirements such as: -- Star rank or above -- two years in troop -- certain number of nights camping -- hold at least one troop office

Yeah, I have been bust recently, but am willing to try working on it some more. Give me a few days to get back to normal routine ( drove to Key West and back over the last 7 days)

I cant find any information about this!!! Where are you getting it from? I checked the foxnews website, but it wasnt there. Usually I watch foxnews a lot, but I was at camp this week. Please let us know where we can find info. -
Any body care to join me for the half hour or so? I should be in there for the 30 minutes or so. Come on in.

Key West gets two frowns because we have to drive from St. Louis down there and back in a minivan. That is six of us, youngest being 12 years old ( also in scouts, but not as active as me) We drive for 2 1/2 days there, stay for two days, and come back. No fun. My ordeal will be in either the fall or spring, depends on when the fall ordeal is due to high school sports.

LastEagle ( i think thats right), You mentioned how easy it is to get the regular flag patch, it really isnt that hard to get the reverse either, now. Most places I look for gear sell them now.

Thanks Ed. The food was horrible(except for last night when the adults cooked for us:)) My patrol couldnt keep anything warm, or even cooked... All of the patrols in my troop(4 of them) got the Baden Powell Award. I am a troop guide for the new patrol. My fellow guide in the patrol finished his Eagle recently though he is a pain in the butt. I want to go back for a few days!! I head for Key West Tuesday:(

I forgot to add that I was called out during the OA ceremony and got to shoot a rifle for the first time ever! I'm going to try and scan my first target because it was awesome.

Got back from camp this morning.... first thing I did... get on here:) Not a terrible week, hot afternoons, cold mornings. Rain Wednesday night though not as bad as at home.... 3 and a half inches in about 2 hours!!!!! I earned 4 merit badges, three of them being required... Climbing First Aid Emergency Preparedness Camping and a partial on cooking I have two requirements left for Star!!!!

I leave for summer camp tomorrow, Sunday the 29th, at around 10 AM central time. I cant wait. My troop is going to Camp Sunnen in Potosi, MO. It is a part of the Trails West Council out of S IL. I'll be back on the forums Saturday afternoon. Later, and all have a good week. Hopefully no rain at camp:).

I listen to all country. My favorite is Toby Keith and his song, "Courtesey of the Red, White, and Blue"

Good point, BW. If they want the full uniform, pants and all, then the need to be cheaper, required, and better quality.

I am a JR Leader (den chief and troop guide for NSP) We dont use the patrol system much right now. Hopefully that will change as of Sunday when we head for camp. We usually put our tents around the edges of the campsite in kind of a horseshoe shape.

For info about the unit, ask at your council. They should be able to give it to you I would think.
