  1. Our troop does not require scouts to wear their uniforms to camp. How ever, most of our drivers do. You want to wear your tee shirt, ask your mother to give you a ride, see you at the camp ground.

    New Socks

It's all the same to me, I wear cowboy boots.
  3. Scouting is a good bang for the buck but only because it runs on the backs of the volunteers. If national took a year off I'd never notice. Only thing I can think of that would be a problem would be the processing of Eagle apps.
  4. Charging for the rescue is one thing, but they should not be able to go above the cost that would have been incurred if their own helicopter had been in service.(This message has been edited by wingnut)
  5. Just for the record.... No relation.
  6. Thanks Neil! That's the one! Show it to a teenager today and they'd wonder what all the fuss was about. 12 mil old times can't all be wrong.
  7. "While never a Farrah Fawcett fan" welp, your older than I am.... I still remember "The" poster...
  8. When we have a scout that wants out of our unit I offer to introduce him to the other 3 troops in town. I came from one of the other troops myself. Best you can do is offer a killer program that will fit some scouts and let some one else take care of the rest.
  9. Hmmm.... going to make checking for ticks easier.
  10. I hope they do not merge C in the Community with C in Nation. Two completely different badges. And each is packed. Something would have to be lost to combine them.
  11. Is this question limited to scouts or can we include national and state elections??
  12. Bullmoose, Good to meet you, there have been a few member from the RR that stop in here and while we don't share the same rules and regs there is a lot we can learn from each other. I hope you stick around and get involved. Trevorum: It's not illegal to find them, only to collect them (grin).
  13. Welcome to the fire. Can you narrow down the location to two or three states. I'm here in CT and can also advise on NY and RI. Personal favorite is C. S. Read Scout reservation in Brant lake NY. It's a great place but a bit too far away from where ever you are for many young scouts on their own. See http://www.wpcbsa.org/Read/Buckskin/ See also: http://www.scouter.com/forums/viewThread.asp?threadID=201233
  14. You guys do COBOL? Wow, what's it like being a Scouters in India? Reformed Geek (10 years as a "Software development engineer" for IBM).
  15. At the end of the day when there is just not time or energy for more I like Lord, Please grant us safe passage through the night so we may try our best again tomorrow.
  16. I wonder if it would be helpful for him to carry an FRS radio that has a vibrating feature when you hit the page button on the matching radio. Give you a way to alert him same as a shout or a whistle would the other scouts.
  17. John, Here in CT We can get all three in one day. I had one camp out where we had to send a scout home on Saturday because of the sun and heat and had to send one indoors on Sunday due to exposure to the cold.
  18. No matter how many times the mice vote they can not elect a new cat. The CC does not answer to anyone but the head of the sponsor (and his proxy the Charter Org. Rep.) All other leaders serve the CC. You can't fire here only beat her into submission.
  19. If you can't have more time for lunch, can you do it in waves? Den 1 makes their packets while den 2 is working on knots and den 3 is doing fire building (or such) then den 2 gets their chance to make thier packets while den 1's packets are cooking and den 1 is at the knot demo... Divide and conquer.
  20. A few have talked about the need to have scouts carry their own first aid gear. We don't encourage them to carry anything more than a small bandaid. If they need more than that, I want to be notified. I have no objection to them applying the first aid, but I know who the parents will be after my butt if it is done wrong or if universal precautions are not followed. They don't each bring their own pots and pans, hand axes or coolers why should they each have a firstaid kit? Doesn't make sense in base camp where we can have one big kit in the center of every thing. It doesn't make sense on the trail where we are sharing the weight.
  21. We have a large tackle box that is a nice bright orange.
  22. Keep the number of people involved in the firing to the least number needed for safety. I've never understood why it takes one manager to fire one employee but it takes the whole committee to tell a volunteer that they can find a new way yo fill that one hour a week. I never was much for public humiliation. On the other hand, be firm when you do it. Don't let him think that this is open to negation and that there is no need for him to defend himself. Thank him for any effort he has put in but assure him that you have thought it over and his services are no longer needed. Then, keep your mouth closed tight. Resist saying another word about it to him or anyone else. It is a closed chapter. Anything you say will only make things worse. Oh, Good luck.
  23. "The problem is if the pack finds out some might leave and we don't want that again" So you thought it would be a good idea to post this on line along with your town and pack number? Don't worry, I'm sure no one in your area uses the internet.
  24. Dan, see http://www.bsalegal.org/faqs-195.asp
  25. All troops would love to have a COR that was trained and cared! We have to ask who our COR is each year.
