I checked. My official leather WB woggle is 4-bight. My leather WB woggle that came from Gilwell Park is 4-bight. The participant woggles I made were all 5-bight.

"I have since come to realize that this council award is not limited in any way, as to how it is given out, in relation to adults and youth." It IS limited. It's limited based on the number of crews you have in your council. See the form for that ratio.

I have to agree with Eagle92. I also find it interesting that the youth serving as National Chief, National Vice-Chief and Regional Chiefs ALL wear uniforms with gold loops and National Committee patches on their sleeves (and no unit numbers). Not sure about Section Chiefs wearing gold loops and an appropriate regional office patch. A recent Insignia Guide showed office patches for the National and Regional OA offices, but I understand they were never made.

What's an "Attender"??? You are either a part of a Jambo troop contingent, either an adult leader or a youth participant, or a member of staff (either youth or adult) or a visitor. Visitors don't register.

I would say NO because he was a cub scout recruiter, recruiting another cub scout. He is now a Boy Scout. Really, the only awards that carry over is the Arrow of Light and Religious Award. Everything less 'remains behind'. He shouldn't bring over his Cub Scout World Conservation Award, etc. If he wants to wear a recruiter strip on his Boy Scout uniform, he needs to recruite a new Boy Scout.

Let's see. #1- No. #2 If you start placing orders for new items before your local distributor even hears of them, you might be a member of the UP. Nope. Just a memorabilist, and want to add to my collection. #3, 4- Nope #5 If you carry a copy of the insignia guide in you breifcase, you might be a member of the UP. Nope. But I keep a collection of past Insignia Guides, but this is due to my memorabilist/historian stuff, not UP. #6 If you had a uniforming discussion on MYSCOUTING.ORG that lasted over 5 pages in two different groups, you might be a member of the UP. Never got into any discussion on MYSCOUTING, but have in other forum, mainly because some people have a problem reading/comprehending the Insignia Guide. #7, 8, 9, 10, 11- Nope #12 If you own more uniforms than you do business suits, you might be a member of the UP. Nope. More that I'm an active scouter, so have several uniforms, and rarely wear suits, so have more uniforms then suits. # 13, 14, 15 Nope. Also, don't have a campaign hat. #16 If you have a scouting uniform for every area, i.e. CS, BS Venturing, distictt, council , and Sea SCouting, you might be a member of the UP. I have both Venturing & Sea Scouting uniforms, but that's because I'm involved in both. Nothing to do with UP. # 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 24, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32 Nope #33 If you are looking at photos of Scouts on Facebook and Boy's Life website and cringe at the lackof uniforming, yo might be a UP Yeah, I cringe. Don't know if its because of UP. #34, 37, 38, 39, 40, 41 Nope.

"So these scouts are wearing Cub numbering on their Boy Scout Shirts?" Yup.
-
Yeah, seemed unavailable all weekend.

"When did we have blue troop numbers? In the 50's era scouts they have blue unit numbers?" Up until about 1955, we had program-specific unit numbers and council/community/state strips. This to make the different uniforms worn by members of each program. Cub Scouts: yellow on blue strips & numbers Boy scouts: red on khaki strips, white on red numbers Explorers: brown on green strips & numbers Air Scouts/Explorers: royal blue on sky blue strips & numbers Sea Scouts/Explorers: white on blue & blue on white strips & numbers

The BSA used to have a booklet called "Scout Ceremonies" that gave several. Also, check the US Scouting Service Project. They probably has a section on ceremonies, as well as MacScouter.

There seemed to have been a problem with the Forum for a couple of days this week. Seems to be ok now.

Is there such thing as Pack Executive Committee ?
emb021 replied to WestCoastScouter's topic in Cub Scouts
As noted, the BSA literature makes no mention of executive committees within unit committees. Executive Committees are always composed of a subset of an organizations officers. If it existed, an exec committtee of a unit committee would comprise the CC and other top 'officers' of the committee. But the CM and ACM aren't members of the committee, so can't be members of an exec committee. Bottomline, your CC needs to be trained on how pack committees operate... -
"If it were entirely volunteers doing all this stuff, that would be one thing. But I was under the impression that "National" has a fairly sizable paid, professional staff running the show. Maybe I am mistaken?" Thing is, National has gone thru another re-org, which included moving all the Regional offices into the National office. This has caused a lot of problems and things slipping.

Its either something unique to his council or his unit. In general, these are coup beads. Each bead represents something. It depends on what they are for. Most are used to recognize activity, either within a unit, or council or a particular camp. The beads may represent things like campouts, hikes, service hours, and other activites. When I was a kid, my scout camp had these. We got beads for a rainy day, hiking a certain number of trails, doing service, attending vespers, earning merit badges, etc. I encountered an OA chapter that did this, tho they used hand made ceramic beads, string on a sort of bandolier. Beads represented weekend events, do eagle COH, and other chapter activites. Some councils will do such beads for adults to encourage participation, especially with training and the like. Hope that helps. I would recommend asking him what they are for.

"Also although the the Chapter Adviser is selected by the LA, I know that I also had to get the OK from the Dis. Chair. And when I got my replacement, I had the LA and DC approve him too." Read the GOA. Neither of these two have a say in who is the Chapter Adviser. That's the Scout Exec. (tho am sure in most cases, the LA DOES have a big say. Whether or not the DC has any say may very).

"OA members have no special distinction, if they are asked to serve on a council camping committee it is on an advisory basis only and not on a membership basis." Not according to the "Guide for Officers and Advisers". Pg 7. "Each year the Scout Executive appoints a volunteer to serve as lodge adviser... This person serves as a member of the council Boy Scout or Camping Committee and may be elected to the Executive Committee." pg 16. "The chapter adviser becomes a member of the district committee".

"Is it OK for an adult to wear the medals he earned as a youth? Mine was the Parvuli Dei and I had just assumed that I shouldn't wear it. " YES its ok. Don't let anyone tell you you can't. Just keep in mind that medals are for formal occasions.
-
The chapter adviser, by being a chapter adviser, is a member of the district camping committee. Same with the lodge adviser and the council camping committee. The assumption is that the chapter chief should also, by virtue of that office, be a member of the district committee. Most councils will automatically put their lodge chief on the council exec committee. Same idea.

Ordering Wood Badge Beads for NYLT Staffer
emb021 replied to Marathoner262's topic in Wood Badge and adult leader training
AFAIK, a WB Staff beading ceremony occurs amoung the staff on the first weekend before the participants arrived. That's when I got mine. My council presented our recent NYLT SM with his 4th bead. It occured as part of the program of our WB Breakfast. It was NOT done during the WB staff beading ceremony. It was NOT done as part of a WB beading ceremony. I can say that no one amoung our WB people felt it was wrong that he received it there. He is an active part of our 'wb community', serving on several WB courses as a staffer. -
"where do I find a committee emblem at, I do not see them on our District Committee members uniforms." Your Scout Shop should sell "District Committee" patches. They exist. I used to wear one for several years. If your DC members aren't wearing them, what are they wearing. BTW, there was never an official Chapter Chief patch. There was an official Lodge Chief patch, but only briefly. I would recommend that before you do this you check with your lodge leadership. Is your Chapter Adviser ok with this? Your lodge chief? If the other chapter chiefs in your lodge don't do this, some might get upset by you wearing silver loops.

You pin up to 5 in a row above the left pocket. thats it. Some try to claim you have to pin the medal to or above the knot representing it. Considering you have 3 medals representing one knot, kind of hard. Ignore such nonsense. The Insignia Guide shows the wearing of medals with knots. Take a look.

Philmont Training Center tips
emb021 replied to ctbailey's topic in Wood Badge and adult leader training
"I think emb021 might just be talking about hiking on the non-PTC side of the road... not in the back-country (trek territory)." Correct. Was not speaking of PTC participants hiking in 'trek territory'. There are a few trails available for PTC participants (Urracca trail and a couple of others). You need permission. They took a look at my PTC physical form and told me no. Not sure what factors, but there were 2 or 3 (or combo) that did it. -
Ordering Wood Badge Beads for NYLT Staffer
emb021 replied to Marathoner262's topic in Wood Badge and adult leader training
"While I'd be happy if everyone just wore two beads, which I believe should only be worn people who have attended and completed Wood Badge." Non-issue. You must complete WB to get your two beads. "I really don't think presenting a fourth bead at a Wood Badge beading ceremony to anyone other than the WB CD is the thing to do." Because NYLT is now very similar to WB, the amount of work a NYLT SM is VERY similar to what a WB CD does, hence why they can get a fourth bead. "I really think only one person on a course should wear four beads. After all this will be the last course for the CD. Once he or she is done with the course his or her "Wood Badge days are over." AFAIK, that's how it works with 21CWB. Wasn't necessarily so with the prior WB, where some WB CD just kept doing that job, preventing others from getting to be a CD. -
"It was announced that Michigan State is the site of the 2012 NOAC and possibly 2015. Indiana is doing major overhauling of the dorms and has said that they will not have the housing for NOAC. Since NOAC, apparently discussions are still on concerning NOAC back at IU in 2015." you're right. I forgot they had already announced MSU as the 2012 site. Its 2015 that, AFAIK, is up in the air. Its Iowa that is doing major overhauling of its dorms. Several we used last time are now gone. I know of some arguing for 2015 to be in Pennsylvania. My understanding is the Nat Comm doesn't like to announce these things too far out.

He is speaking of the Council Venturing Leadership Award. The number of awards available is based on the number of units in your council. You get two equal 'pools' of awards, one for youth and one for adults. You may give as many of those awards you want. There is no requirements that you must give out an equal number, nor give out atleast one youth before giving out an adult, or give out a ratio of the two (so many youth per # of adults or the like). Also, unused awards can go to the other pool, nor be used the next year. If you can only give out up to 2 youth and 2 adult, you can give the following: 1 youth, 0 adults 1 youth, 1 adult 0 youth, 1 adult 2 youth, 0 adults 2 youth, 1 adult 2 youth, 2 adults 1 youth, 2 adults 0 youth, 2 adults clear?
