  1. I will treat you as you treat me, hopefully with mutual respect, love and friendship. When you resort to violence, looting, destruction and vandalism, you have lost me, and I no longer care what your cause is...you are a common criminal and no better than those you protest against.

  2. Any government employee who is proven to have violated civil rights should be removed from his or her government position and prosecuted. So cops should be fired and prosecuted if they violate someone's civil rights - when it is legally established that they are guilty of such actions = due process. The civil rights protected include the right to peacefully protest AND the right to be protected from criminal acts when the police have knowledge of those acts. When government, for reasons of hope for political gain, sloth, or incompetence allows mobs to riot, loot, injure and kill,

  3. it simply isn't true that the law is clear on this, and that use of these accounts within reason is a clear violation of the law or IRS regulations, or is contingent simply on the idea that one won't get caught. I hold a law license, I asked a friend who is a tax practitioner to take a hard look at this, and their conclusion was that individual accounts, at least as we use them and as most troops do, are not a violation of either the letter or the spirit of the federal statutes and IRS regulations. As Fred8033 said, ask a different tax lawyer and you can get a different answer, I would bet

  5. This is exactly how my wife handled our troop account. One word of warning, we learned to explain to the families that the money had to stay with the troop if the scout transferred to another unit. Barry

  6. Wasn’t quite sure where to put this, but wanted to share something I made to celebrate our first in-person Troop meeting since the first of March. Plague Doctor neckerchief. 😆

  7. Update 6/24/20 : Regarding the National Executive Committee statement in OP., a clarifying FAQ was released. https://blog.scoutingmagazine.org/2020/06/24/answering-common-questions-about-the-bsas-commitment-to-act-against-racial-injustice/

  8. That's probably true. The scout group couldn't sell it. But it doesn't necessarily mean the bankruptcy court couldn't sell it. I very much doubt that BSA will be allowed to keep the summit. It was an extravagant expense. Allowing BSA to keep it would scandalous. I also don't think the bankruptcy court will see these facilities as a charitable function of BSA. These national camps are very expensive, and they serve the wealthiest members of the organization. They should be the first thing to go.

  9. Part of the difficulty of removing the Lenin statue is that it's on private property and isn't that some lovely irony. A couple of people were murdered in CHAZ/CHOP by people with guns. They also established a wall to keep out undesirable people and there's some more irony for ya. In Harpers Ferry, WV, the mob defaced the statue of John Brown, showing incredible ignorance.

  10. There will always be people who will take advantage of crowds and chaos to further their objectives or settle scores. I don't think supporting Black People against injustices is contrary to being Catholic. Rather, I look at racial justice as an essential element of being Catholic and something we should push for. The BLM group has some positions as Catholics that we cannot support in good faith, but like Scouting, where the BSA is just one element, the "official" BLM group is only part of a broader movement for racial justice. Overall I support some of the goals of the movement, but I don't su

  11. So, rather than teaching scouts and parents that following the rules and laws of the land is what we should do (A Scout is Obedient), we should spin and obfuscate and do what we can to "minimize the chances of an audit", even though it may be illegal. Got it. From my reading of the tea leaves, it will all soon be a moot point anyway.
