  1. And you are the Scoutmaster? If so how long? If not what you be?
  2. since he is the only one "providing" anything around here Dude ain't that the truth.
  3. NJCubScouter Did the CO or the COR agree to the scouts accounts? Or is it something the troop thought up without input from the CO. Which would put a major flaw in your case, wouldn't it? It sounds like most CO are just paper owners, which it seems most posters are alluding to on this forum. Davej775 They donated the equipment it is not theirs to take back.
  4. green Sm and Fat Old Guy When I took 1st aid training 3 years ago, the instructor said if you do not use the new improved method of CPR, do not even bother. If you save the person, they would probably have brain damage.
  5. http://www.macscouter.com/Cooking/BoxOven.html Why ot cover the outside of the box with foil also?
  6. So it was not the National Endowment for the Arts?

My favorite Breakfast Country Breakfast 1 pound bulk pork sausage 1 pound peppered bacon 2 boxes dehydrated (NOT FROZEN) hash brown potatoes 1 dozen eggs 1/2 pound shredded cheddar cheese Dice bacon In the bottom of the Dutch Oven, crumble the pork sausage add the bacon, and onions and brown. Add hash brown potatoes, cover with water, boil until water is dissolved. Fry potato/sausage mixture until potatoes are browned. Remove the Dutch oven from the coals. Using a large spoon, make several depressions in the top of the potatoes. Crack one or two eggs in to each of the depressions. Cover the Dutch Oven. Add heat to the top to cook the eggs. 8. Eamonn I think you where in the correct place at the correct time for that new Eagle Scout! I hope he and his father thanked you. Let me say it, Thank You for what you do! Proud Eagle Was it the NEA?(This message has been edited by dan)
  9. No baiting allowed only by certain people or only by you? I read your post and that is what I understood from it, please correct me where I misunderstood your post. Not once did you mention how to imporve.
  10. fotoscout & Shell Are you saying do not try to improve, just keep doing it the way you have, after all its only scouts? Are you saying do not talk to your DE about improving the relationship with the present CO or have the DE help you find one that understands the role the CO should play in the BSA?
  11. Do these camps use the BSA wall tents? I have never set one of them up, but they do not look like they would be a whole lot of fun to setup. Big, Heavy, big heavy poles, and did I say HEAVY!
  12. Every summer camp I have attended, which is ran by the BSA, which is only 4, I have never seen a scout pitch (setup) a tent. Are the summer camps I have attended different than what you have observed?
  13. How many of these bare bones CO are that way because the Unit "leaders" want(ed) complete control versus someone (the DE?) explaining to the CO what their role is within the BSA. How many CO would balk or run away if they knew that they "owned" or will "own" the unit. And that they are responsible for that unit.
  14. Congrats GEE and I thought a beaver was just a flat tailed rat! Tally Ho Foxes!
  15. Ken There was a rumor going around that you where going to staff Thunderbird this year, but I have not seen you at any meetings? Just to help you with who I am, as you put it to me the first time we meet, Oh you are with "that" troop in Lily Lake.
  16. Co-Ed Camping Co-Ed Swimming LIGHTEN UP IT IS A JOKE!
  17. evmori If you call them Class A or B, someone will have to explain to the new scouts what Class A or B is. Why not have them use their handbook. Just tell them Field uniform and tell them page 12 in the handbook.
  18. So setting up and scheduling a show and sell is not leadership? What in the heck do you think leadership is, yelling?!? Please explain. A silver beaver award recipient that does not support the council, is there irony in there somewhere?
  19. VentureScoutNY Are you aware that a uniform is not required to be in the BSA program? Are you aware that your troop made these rules which conflict with the BSA? My issue with the Class A or B terminology is that it just gives units another excuse to write more rules. If the units would just say field uniform and a new scout asked what that is, they could just say it on Page number 12 of your handbook.(This message has been edited by dan)
  20. SebCachia But the BSA does not say that the uniform is any less important than the other methods, but they do allow some leeway on the uniform, this was put in for families that could not afford the uniform and some leaders stretch the methods to fit their program instead of following the BSA program. Sounds like overseas is not much different than here.
  21. SebCachia Here are the BSA reasons for the uniform. From the BSA site. The Scouting program has three specific objectives, commonly referred to as the "Aims of Scouting." They are character development, citizenship training, and personal fitness. The methods by which the aims are achieved are listed below in random order to emphasize the equal importance of each. Ideals Patrols Outdoor Programs Advancement Associations With Adults Personal Growth Uniform The uniform makes the Boy Scout troop visible as a force for good and creates a positive youth image in the community. Boy Scouting is an action program, and wearing the uniform is an action that shows each Boy Scout's commitment to the aims and purposes of Scouting. The uniform gives the Boy Scout identity in a world brotherhood of youth who believe in the same ideals. The uniform is practical attire for Boy Scout activities and provides a way for Boy Scouts to wear the badges that show what they have accomplished. The uniform is part of the Methods to deliver the program, some leaders do not follow the program. They pick and choose which parts to follow. Is it any different in Europe?
  22. I went through the troop library last night and could not find the book I was looking for. Went over to the BSA website and could not find it there either. It was a little handbook with all of the requirements and responsibilities for all positions. If memory serves me correct this book was from 2001.
  23. Cub Scout archery range! Setting up a show and sell is a great leadership project! As long as the adults let the scout do the work. Calling the stores to find one that will let you do it, scheduling when the scouts will be there, getting the popcorn there.
  24. I thought the BSA has recommendation for requirements for troop leaders? I thought the BSA have left these requirements only recommendations so that new troops starting up, could still have SPLs and other leaders. Now I could have sworn that I read that the BSA recommends that SPL should at least be a Star Scout. Did I dream this or am I reading old books?
