Hi Cliff We are neighbors. I am with a troop in Lily Lake. I know I have heard your name some where before? So we may have ran into each other somewhere. According to the BSA site it says this about the methods. The methods by which the aims are achieved are listed below in random order to emphasize the equal importance of each. This is also stated in the SM handbook I believe, do not have a copy with me.

I came to watch the commercials and stayed for the game! I missed most of the commercials and most of the half time show, I was on the phone with a scout trying to get some prehikes scheduled for a High Adventure.

SPLT15 I have never seen the White Stag program but, what I did find out about it after talking to you and others here, the original Wood Badge course and JLTC where developed from the white Stag program. I am sure that both training session are compatible, the biggest difference that I saw was the ticket and the receiving of the Silver Stag. In JLTC you receive a certificate at the end of the course.

Eamonn Sorry, I try but sometimes you have to crack a few eggs to make a train wreck. Okay for the ones that do not get my sense of humor (which I have been told is very dry) and or are humor impaired like I am (which I have been told a few times on this forum) this is a taken from. To make an omelet you have to break a few eggs. This post is not directed at anyone, it is just what popped into my head when I read Eamonns post. Okay I will go take my meds now. But I do feel another post coming on as I type this one out! The format thingie is pretty cool, not as cool as the spell check thingie which I can use on other forums!

acco40 Sounds like they are modifying the training. I staffed JLTC last year, when SPLT15 was discussing his ticket a few months back, I went through the entire training manual and saw nothing in it about a ticket. SPLT15 than explained to me what whitstag is.

A clarification the course that Senior_Patrol_Leader_T15 took and did a ticket for was and is White Stag. The JLTC course does not include a "ticket". You can find more info on the White Stag program at http://www.pinetreeweb.com/whitestg.htm So Senior_Patrol_Leader_T15 how is your ticket coming along? If the BSA decided to put in a requirement that TJLT is required, I say it should be for First Class, Star seem a little late in the game to me.

PETAL_MS_SCOUTER Make sure that you check this out your church. Some Lutherans have a rule that no flags except the church flag can be on display within the sanctuary. I asked our pastor about this (because there is one in the sanctuary) he just smiled. acco40 Having Scouts in uniform recite the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag violate the "Flag Code?" I say only if the flag bearers recite and or salute the flag during the pledge.

3-14-04 Girl Scout Sunday

My son has ADS and he is on the honor roll. For the last 4 years, so I guess the ADS was not a good example! And NO we do not pay money for our children to be on the honor roll.

The SPL for my wood badge course was a woman. My ticket counselor was a woman. My ticket counselor worked at Philmont for 3 years. The BSA program is better off with these 2 females in the program, than if they where not in the program. It is not the gender of a person that makes them a good leader. Now go work your ticket! remember never admit if you made a mistake, after all that is showing weakness keep your mind closed never try to understand the BSA program, after all you have been doing it a certain way for a long time, and change is hard all methods goals and programs within the BSA are optional

JimmyD How do scouting myths get started? Do you agree that the methods do not need to be followed? Do you think some methods should be followed and some should not?

johnsned When you posted that it makes good points that was also a joke? showing absurd behavior Would that be lining up for the firing squad? How many posters agree with it and said it was right on the money? The answer would be 2. And if you read my first post I did say it was funny. You are talking out both sides of your mouth, saying it is a joke but yet it makes good points. How do all of these myths is scouting get started?

A. Methods are ways of accomplishing Scouting; they are not an end in themselves. So what other ways beside the methods do you accomplish scouting? B. or the pants don't match. I am assuming this means that the scouts wear jeans or sweatpants, or BDU and not scout pants. Which would not make a uniform. Now take what you posted and apply it to any of the other 7 methods. If you can say the uniform is not needed or does not matter what it looks like, why could you not say the same for Patrols or Leadership? After all they are only methods? I have changed my mind I have decided that I like the Outdoors to much, I have decided that I ME will change the Advancement method. I will add and subtract requirements to make some easier and some harder as I see fit. After all its only a method.

Yes, it was funny in a mean sort of way. Now can someone tell what the good point was or is? That we do not have to follow the methods? Or only the methods we want?

I would suggest that you go to www.philmont.com and ask this question on the message board there. I remember seeing this question there before but cannot remember what they said.

I have asked the scouts to call me SIR Mr. Dan SIR! They think I am pretty funny.
