Bush wants natural gas exploration next to Philmont
dan replied to acco40's topic in Issues & Politics
next door to America's largest Boy Scout camp Why would this change Philmont at all? If you really want to see unspoiled, go to Double H. -
The SM handbook says that whoever the SM says can sign off on the requirements can. Do not remember the page number, and I am going from my memory. I do have a very good memory, it is just not very long.

I have said a prayer for these scouts, the prayer was to help these 2 scouts find the correct path which to take. Please try and help them find the correct path which to take.

loose the Shampoo and Body Wash (travel size) Deodorant (trial size), it is a smellable, bears like it. You are not suppose to bath in the lakes using any type of soaps. You can drink the water straight from the lakes, but you will not be following the GTSS. Most outfitters will give you more than enough food, not sure if you want to carry anymore. You will need the repellent on some portages, take a bit more, unless this is your personnel stuff, it is best to carry one big container for the entire crew, same for toothpaste and sunscreen. I would only take either the water shoes or tennis shoes not both. I wore my old hikers last year and a pair of sandals that I only wore at camp. I would also suggest one first aid kit for the crew, not everyone carring the same thing. A pair of long pants not jeans it could get cold.

No more garbage compaction at Philmont! This year you are not longer required to compact your garbage before being allowed to throw it away at a camp. In years past you had to bring your garbage up for a staff member to check it out before being allowed to put it in the garbage container. On just about every "porch" at a camp the staff had a baseball bat, they would take your garbage and throw it in the air, hit it with a bat, if it came apart, you had to re compact it and than they would give it the bat test again. Can you believe that a parent actually sued the BSA over this!

Last year at the Philmont dining hall if someone wanted to have seconds, they had to sing for it. If the BSAs largest most exclusive camp does this, it HAS be OK for troops to have scouts sing for lost items, using the kybo, for being dirty or whatever. Scouts where told no sing no seconds.

10 years ago I was a ISTJ. Took this one and I came out different. Of course I knew what I wanted the final answer to be. This can be a very good tool, on how to communicate with other people. It is sometimes easier to get agreement if you can explain or show something in their terms or comfort zone. The little web test probably is not a very good why to get a good reading on yourself. It is not in depth enough.

BadenP Where in the world did I say all was lost?! DO NOT put words in my mouth! Lets stick to facts ok! onehour Who could I look to find the resources I need to try and get a unit on the same page? I am not looking for experiences I want the rules and where to find them. And sometimes the interpretations from someone I trust that understands the program. Do not get me wrong I like a good story, but it is only a story. UNC The other person moved, not sure why he never came back. I do not think it was an issue with the board. Yes there are many good scouters on this board OGE has great ideas, his last little comment was, Sounds like a teachable idea! WAS GREAT. UNC seems good, LauraT7 is not around much Where ya been? SR540Beaver is really good also. I know I am missing some, but they all are missing one thing, and that is ALL of the knowledge that BW and E has. I do not think BW should came back to this forum, there are 3 people here whos only goal in life seems to be to disagree to what BW has to say.

How scoutlike! The forum has lost. This year we have lost 3 good resources, I see no one that can step up and fill the vacancy. I would just suggest everyone here consider this just a forum now, do not expect to get any correct answers here anymore.

Goober and Grape, when I saw this is the store I was amazed! My mother use to make this for us many many years ago. In the 60s Except she would add butter (not margarine) I remember it was very good, this was usually made as a treat for lunch. After I saw it in the store, I made some for my children, they looked at it and said that looks bad! They tried it and said its ok, but never make it again! The stuff I made was was not as good as my memory remembers! But maybe it was the maker that make is so good!

Speaking of brewing your drink, I recently acquired a Coleman drip coffee pot, that works on a stove. It takes about 10 minutes to brew a really good pot of coffee. Sure beats waiting for the old percolator to finishes perking on a cold day in the woods. The only draw back is that it has a glass pot, looking for a good stainless pot to replace it with. It will only be a matter of time before the glass would get broken. PB and apple and coffee black!

Brand does not matter, but the receiver of the peanut butter (creamy preferred), needs to be an apple, preferably cut into slices.

jason changed my mind, PMed you instead. I will say a prayer to my God for you. Consider yourself ignored from this end, you are my first. (This message has been edited by dan)

Eamonn Do you have the available youth staff? Have most of them staffed JLTC before? If the answer is no it either one, Cancel the course or have it in the late fall. (On 2nd thought that would not work, school would be back in session) No one in your council has been trained for the new course, I hear that there is a little bit of tweaking still going on with the new course. Just finished JLTC 2 weeks ago, it was a huge success, We started meeting in January, for the course in June. IMHO there is nothing wrong with someone only doing the admin stuff such as paperwork and phone calls, as long as they do it, spread the work around. You spouse would make a great ASM for JLTC! She would not be home alone that way!(This message has been edited by dan)

You make the call - SM should ask the adult why no uniform. SPL should ask the scouts why they are not wearing the uniform. I just spent a week at JLTC. Every youth staffer (38) wore the complete uniform from Sunday until Saturday. (some of them where pretty ripe by Friday, had to suggest strongly that they do laundry, before the closing ceremony) Most participants wore complete uniforms for the entire conference. 2 participants did not have scout shorts or pants. Their unit SM made a big deal about it before the conference that they do not wear scout pants or shorts or socks in the unit. His biggest worry was that the staff would pick on the scouts for not having pants or shorts, the staff did not, but the 2 patrols that these scouts where in, where disappointed every morning when the patrol failed uniform inspection. They where expecting to receive a pass, they did not, they keep saying the SM said it would be OK. I think if they where going to do it again they would have a uniform. There where 2 other scouts without pants or shorts or socks, but the patrol got together for the morning flag ceremony and shared extra uniform pieces among them to pass inspection. If 6 13 year old scouts that have never meet each other before, and after 3 days of being together, can get 2 other scouts in a complete uniform out in the middle of the woods!!! what is your excuse?

Political labels are divisive and restrictive. Most thinking people I know are a mix of views, defying any label. And I worry about the ones who are not such a mix; this usually means that they haven't thought much about the issues, and are simply falling back on "the party line". I just looked at my voters card it says Republican?
