Now, in the past few minutes my insider is saying its not an additional fee and shouldnt have been included in the recharter letter we got. That is something kinda big that should have been proofed better I think. I am interested to know WHAT it is if its not included in the fees.

I am in Circle Ten Council. I am also Key 3, so I got the recharter info today. Surprised by an additional $30 "Council Membership Fee" for all youth and adults. $96 for a kid and $72 for adults all of a sudden

The gear is an issue if my normal tent is going to be too heavy to carry to the second weekend campsite. The time between weekend 1 and weekend 2 isnt the time to bring something like that up. I understand its about the course, but in real life it takes time to place and order and that order be shipped.

I am not asking for any super secret info, and I know this kinda depends on the course. Do I need different camping gear for the second weekend? My normal tent and stuff I am not carrying for a long distance. If there is a possibility I need lighter weight stuff, I need to start shopping now. No, the Troop can't loan me anything. When they camp, they take the big trailer with tents as heavy as what I have.

Woodbadge in October for me. Weekend 1 - Oct 10. Weekend 2 Oct 31 4th year as DL, 2nd year as CM. My biggest challenge as a leader is delegation. How are other Packs doing with recruiting so far? I personally took applications 4 new Scouts and two Den Leaders in the past month. Today, one of those Scouts Dad offered to sign up as a Den Leader. One of my existing parents offered to sign up to be a Den Leader. After a Den Meeting today, one of my existing Den Leaders gave contact information to a mother at the gas station just because he was wearing his uniform, I have 3 other Scouts via local community FB pages that want to join and I have sent them a PDF application. Our Troop in town has returned to in person meetings. I think they did some sort of water slip N slide kickball thing the other night. I am with the Pack... We are having a day next weekend with water rockets. Webelos Woods is still on the calendar and expected to go on. Big Council camp that was scheduled in April will happen in October As I understand it, my Council (Circle 10) is the only Council in Texas that went forward with Cub and Webelos Resident Camp, NYLT this Summer.... No cases of Covid reported. My family attended a Council Day Camp on Aug 1.

I sure wish I had the experience as a Youth a lot of adults had....

I have Webelos this year. We are going to go beyond whats in the book. (not adding to requirements, just introducing additional skills). I want to give them a length of rope to keep and bring to Den Meetings to practice every week. At some point in that they will learn to tie off for something like a ridgeline. I am just wondering if I make a statement like you never tie off a tree unless you have straps.

I understand why tree straps are used for a hammock. Question for the day... are tree straps needed to tie something like a ridgeline for a shelter?

Bust 😭 I am near Dallas.. Its been over 100 for the past several days, and hasnt rained in weeks. We haven done B&G yet due to Covid and were finally planning on today, outside with people in lawn chairs with enough distance. I had programs printed, a powerpoint to project outside on a screen I made, awards all ready to go, ice cream. Wed decided that I am going to visit the different Den Meetings and have smaller award presentations. There just isnt a good time to reschedule at this point. This year sucks.

My first B&G as Cubmaster is tomorrow night. (Better late than never). Its going to be outside and spread out. Im planning on ending with Scout Vespers and the the Scoutmasters Benediction. Is that corny or is that the sort of thing we should be doing more of?? I do tend to second guess myself a lot.

It explicitly says the $25 new member fee can not be prorated. Can we still prorate the $66? Just want to make sure before I say the wrong thing.

Tomorrow is Aug 1 and my kid will officially be a Webelos. He is going to have a tan shirt, but trying to sew on the stuff makes me want to jump out of an airplane. 🤣

Taking my Scout to a Day Camp tomorrow. Supposed to be BBs, Archery, Swimming, Games, Crafts. I think we are going to take our own lunch and skip the typical hot dog in the dining hall.

I meant "why me" because I was a Scout in the 80s. I fully understand where my money is going now.

I am not sure if you are trying to be funny or serious here. I am also not sure how long ago you think the 80s were. My parents were both leaders when I was a Cub Scout in the early to mid 80s. They are both still living and I am not sure why they need the issues of the BSA passed on to them. I was a Cub Scout and Boy Scout in the early to mid 80s and I am fairly certain I am still living. I am a leader now. I can't in any way see why the buck should be passed on to me based on my involvement in the organization.

My son will a Webelos this year, he is 9. He can't swim. I am leaning way towards him not even crossing over when Cub Scouts is finished. I dont ever see him being able to even pass the 2nd class requirements.

I tried for a year to start a new Troop for girls. There is no support in the marketing from National. People in the District thought it was great but the DE told me the best recruiting was word of mouth. Which is useless info when you are starting from scratch. I needed the DE to get us in the schools to talk and get some interest going. What I was able to do via FB in town (less than 10,000) people generated no interest. Just before the Covid thing I threw in the towel and gave up on the endeavor.

Got email from the SE today. The big thing missing from this latest communication is the line about the Council being a separate entity and immune to the impacts of the bankruptcy.
