  1. correct policy states it cant be private. But some parents wont allow pictures taken if it isnt private. I much rather have a page for JUST my parents, so they are see ALL the fun stuff we did as apposed to NO page at all. have fun
  2. Here's one, if the first weekend is a class room style teaching then by god take it outside if at all possible. Absolutely beautiful weekend I had and I had to stay INDOORS
  3. Yeap!!! I am trying to get some interest in a backpack day hike with my Troop! My troop isnt as outdoorsy as I would like for them to be and I want to help with some getting their hiking merit badge. I want to start out with a 12 mike hike at Pettit Jean at the Rockefeller Boy Scout Trail.
  4. I love my Lanterns, LED Lanterns do not put out the same amount of light for the same time frame as a propane lantern,
  5. Its a lack of properly trained leaders. Sure just camping is fun but there needs to be a learning experiance to go along with it. Some team building skills or activities planned.
  6. We always separate the colors, regardless of TIME TAKEN
  7. We do "Visible Support" here in Memphis. WE line Union Ave from 3rd Street (Red Birds Stadium) all the way to Germantown. We have flags and Wave. We start around 4:30 and Last till 6 OOPS sorry I should read We ALWAYS bury the ashes so they are NEVER walked on.
  8. I want to make a comment on the shirts - ONLY read the smoking portion. Lets stick with small town mentality because that's where I am. We are leaders of young boys teaching them to be young men correct? If I am seen in public, at a restaurant, drinking a beer and one of my boys walked up to say Hi, well I would be devastated. Not that drinking beer is bad or should be frowned upon, I just choose not to drink period. I have stickers on my truck regarding Scouting and Camping, you will not see me cutting someone off because they will see my stickers. Whether we are in uniform or N
  9. PERSONAL Story I have smoked since the age of 18, now 39. I have been in scouts for 4 years now VERY VERY active. Last year it really started to bother me when I would fall back and "HIDE" for a minute. I didn't enjoy smoking when I was with the boys and out camping but I couldn't wait till my next opportunity to smoke. So I wanted to take WoodBadge and I knew there wasn't going to be any getting away from time to time to fill this graving. So Jan 8th I decided I wanted to quit, and with a 1 month prescription of Chantix I have now been smoke free for 10 months and I am enjoying it
  10. This is the first I've heard about LIONS
  11. I tell my parents that these items are to be done AT home, if they arent complete then he doesnt complete that portion of the chapter.
  12. That really is hard to believe that the boys wouldnt want to go outdoor. Parent I do understand we campout at least 8 times a year as a pack. Smores and Fires....Include Snipe hunting
  13. http://blog.scoutingmagazine.org/2014/09/24/fun-with-a-purpose/ I guess BP coined "Scouting, with a Purpose"
  14. how many kids are we talking about here? From Tiger to Webs ?
  15. I was blessed with the opportunity to attempt this this past weekend. Had a ground trap and sleeping bag, it was awesome. Cool breeze and 60 degrees. just a couple of Mosquitoes buzzed my ears.
  16. I like the Idea, I know WE don't specifically have anything like that. Like others have mentioned though there is a TON of stuff out there already, but you could be that person to put it all together for your troop. Work your Tickets
  17. Welcome Fellow Beaver S6-558-14 I like you BeaverBean really enjoyed mine as well. Here is my theory, People that have been in the program for MULTIPLE years get much less out of it than those who havent been in the program very long. I am been in scouting ONLY 4 years but in those 4 years I have assisted in changing our pack and troop and putting it on a better road.
  18. NONE! Its been about 9 years since my troop has had any doing in OA. The river (Mississippi) has us separated from MOST of the council and the Chapter we are associated with meets a good distance from us. This is where I come in! To reconnect Crittenden County Scouts to OA and possible research an option of added a Chapter.
  19. 150 Participants broke up into 8 Clans and 1 adult can. Sleeping under the stars is something I was looking forward to, and it did not disappoint. And I will agree it wasn't "a campout" and I didnt need HALF of what I brought. I will learn one day.
