  1. GTSS A Webelos Scout may participate in overnight den camping when supervised by an adult. In most cases, the Webelos Scout will be under the supervision of his parent or guardian. It is essential that each Webelos Scout be under the supervision of a parent-approved adult. Joint Webelos den/troop campouts including the parents of the Webelos Scouts are encouraged to strengthen ties between the pack and troop. Den leaders, pack leaders, and parents are expected to accompany the boys on approved trips. So they way I read this is the parents are not required on a den campout, but are on a den/troop campout. Or is it only encouraged ? If the two will really make the others miserable then separate. I would also suggest having the parents along of those boys, maybe at a distance if independence is your goal. If you have problems with them they cannot sleep in your tent.
  2. Your unit has a religious committee and you need a liaison to it ???
  3. You will be able to join the Banana Republic Generals in no time.
  4. In a large pack outing the different colors do help herd the cats. But since the hats cannot be worn indoors I think they are a bit overkill.
  5. Didn't know tennis was so riske'
  6. Doesn't change the showering factor in our troop. The no brushing teeth part has to stop. Maybe a contest to see who can spit out the fire with rinse.
  7. I always wondered the same thing about serial killers.
  8. I had one of those slackers. Basketry MBC wanted to play cards instead. Got out cell phone, took pictures of him playing cards, handed my phone to camp director. Next day major attitude change.
  9. Install enough hot water heaters to handle 40k capacity for 10 days every 4 years. I don't think that is going to happen. I need hot water to shave, but an MSR can handle that. Cold showers will just have to become part of your shakedown, I am afraid. The other benefit is you use less water.
  10. Set up the derby track if you have one. Leave the electronics off and let the kids have some fun.
  11. I tend to agree with you Fred. Also it may seem like everyone has a smartphone, but we aren't there yet. My oldest has my old iPhone but no data service and a pay as you go t mobile sim only when I feel he needs it and that is not very often. The boys in Texas are not up to another IT project either. Lets fix the ones they have been working on for years.
  12. George Bush sure didn't represent me. Can you name a President in the last 50 years who represented ALL Americans ? I just don't think it is possible.
  13. Great advise. I have been promising popcorn and not cookies. How stupid of me, everyone likes cookies, popcorn not so much.
  14. Welcome. Enjoy your stay. Your pack is unlikely to turn itself around. It will take hard work by the participants. So spill. What is wrong with your pack ?
  15. I am still waiting for the specific examples of Christians being persecuted. Besides the lion feedings I pointed out.
  16. In the case of your regular concert at the auditorium it is to sell you more $10 beers and snacks. Hopefully that's not the case at Jambo. Maybe it is the same reason they make us wait in formation at camp for 10 minutes for the staff to mosey on down the road. Something about building character. If they all sat there peaceably for 1.5 hours they must have a lot of character.
  17. What is a DE supposed to do for my unit ? What am I supposed to for him ? I know ours is being worked like a dog this summer running camps. One 24 hour slot off a week. Seems like a nice guy, but we are in a big district. Doubt I will have much interaction with him.
  18. Why didn't I think of that ? Send my kid to Jambo. Easy. Let me do the math on how many times I can do that before he ages out. As IH I can put whatever I want on the calendar. I can make opportunities available to the whole troop. When have i ever suggested closed, exclusive opportunities ? I can't make people participate. They want to do other activities like sports and video games. I can't fix that. As Scouter99 points out "People will do what they want to do" Why should couch potatoes and sports junkies hold a Scout back from achieving his goals ? Still going for the straw men, eh ? Slurpie and bathtub.
  19. Not made up. Was confirmed by district training staff. They said there was a push to change it though. At some point in the past there was probably some incident at a cub camp and some moron SE decided to solve the problem with a stupid rule. It apparently only applies to council property. Everyone ignores it. How could they enforce it ? Send the DE around unzipping tents at 2 AM ?
  20. It is not conservative because it is not convenient.
  21. Go ahead and discuss. We are waiting.
  22. That was me as a kid. I would act up just to get attention.
  23. That is my thought line exactly. What verse or verses do to you use ? I get Rick's point and certainly can't be tolerated if they break into it without the ANNOUNCEMENTS que. At camp the leaders were really in control becuase it only happened when they said announcements. it only takes a minute with two verses and is fun. The flow of our meetings was rather dull the second half of the year. If I was a scout, I wouldn't want to come. What other fun little stuff like that do you do ?
