the mad rush to Eagle before 2014
Basementdweller replied to chrisking0997's topic in Open Discussion - Program
That is the funniest thing I have read this week so far.. So an organization who you are quitting because you have a moral objection to it's membership policy. Your going to pause long enough to receive it's highest rank. WOW I wonder if they morally object to the point that it doesn't end up on the lads college or job resume. I doubt it......Typical selfish US citizens, Not gonna call them Americans cause that would lump them in with the Canadians and Mexicans which are fine folks. -
Can a parent with felony convictions attend troop meetings?

Council doesn't have anything to say about who does what job as long as the clear the background check......Well unless you openly question or disagree with a DE or SE, that will get you removed regardless of what the CO wants. Not disagreeing with your NAE, I wouldn't want a thief managing any funds either. -
A pocket knife is far to small to effectively dispatch a bear. You need long blade to get enough penetration, needs to be robust as the bear will not hold still while you try to skewer vital organs. I also like one with a stout lanyard so I don't lose it as easily while fighting the brute. Here are a couple of knives I might consider. http://www.sogknives.com/catalog/pro...uaXZlcy5odG1s/ Oh you meant buying one for your bear to use, NOT bear defense. how about this one http://www.scoutstuff.org/bsar-offic...ket-knife.html I have mine from cub scouting, my son has his and said he will keep it to show his son.

I am thinking old snowden's days are numbered. Just a matter of time for the right accident to happen. So Snowden as an SM, make it easy for the team assigned, The rock at the Utah state park fell the other way......He didn't know it was a bad idea to use his shirt as a napkin in grizzly country, Blue Jeans are a great idea when canoeing or whitewater rafting. -
My rich brothers to the North have their foot on my units throat when it comes to fundraising. There is no money in my units home area. The fundraising thread offered some fresh ideas. But nothing to raise the $50,000 to take the troop on trip to hawaii or alaska. We are going to vend BBQ at the local hardware store. Boy Scout BBQ, Cooking our way to Camp. it is still a couple of weeks out, but even if we sell out that will net us only $250 for the day.

how long to hear back from national?
Basementdweller replied to IM_Kathy's topic in Advancement Resources
I wonder how many folks work in that department...with new Eagles approximately 50k per year.....they need to process roughly 150 per day. That's a lot of rubber stamping. -

That falls in line with what Nike and I were told by our DE's the only disqualifying offenses are violent or sexual. -
The worst scouter I ever met did the velcro patch thing. Met him at round table. Before he would speak with you on another subject he would dig thru his shirt pocket and with great ceremony strip off the incorrect patch for the subject being spoken, replace it with the more relevent patch and then he would say "I understand you had a question or feedback for blah blah blah". He did this all night every night I saw him at roundtable......Just an FYI he was a bead wearing card carrying member of the coffee circle. Not sure if it was a really bad attempt at recruiting or an ego trip.

In my council there is only help for national registration. Nothing for unit dues or fees. I hear them year after year raising money for scout shirts and books for those in need. But request one. In 5 or more years of requesting I have received two shirts from council. thats it. With that said, of all the boys I have bought shirts for, paid summer camp fees, outing fees, bought gear. Only one has remained in scouting for more than a year or so and he has been with me now for about 6 years. So I have a less than smiley face when I have parents driving new cars or with new cell phones asking me for a free trip to summer camp for their scout.

So KDD, you never made a mistake as a kid???? Dealing drugs to a minor, The offense was at least 10 years old per the OP, The parent was probably just of legal age himself. So he was in essence dealing to his peers.......Which is a less heinous crime than you make it. But again we don't know the full story......at 18 he could have been dealing to Kindergarteners. We just don't know. The we get into what was he dealing? Meth or was it Mary Jane? Huge difference in many folks eyes and right or wrong it will be legal in most if not all states in my lifetime. -

I asked the Felony conviction thing to the DE as I had a parent that was up front with me about it and was worried about failing the background check. The DE's response was the only disqualifiers were violent and sexual convictions. True or not???? -

Guessing old Kay didn't like our responses......so she bailed. -
So if the parents don't want to camp or refuse to volunteer...Can the weekend because obviously no one cares?????? When I was a Cub, we didn't camp as a pack and I participated in a Dad and Lad campout as a webelo..... I can't say I missed anything.

You are a rich boy aren't you. Fun raising my butt, So what did the Hawaii trip cost????? $1500 bucks a head??? $3,000?????? We do not have the rich suburb to sell mulch, cookies, candy bars, or popcorn. Many of my parents haven't spent $2,000 on a vehicle. With annual house hold incomes below $20k....big fancy expensive trips are impossible for my unit I cannot subsidize a trip like that, Heck we cannot pay for a year of scouting.which is $450 including summer camp.

blake beat me to it. just because a lad is 18 doesn't make him a man. Just as some of my scouts are more man that their fathers. -
