SSScout great comments pole length .. something I would not have thought of, of course its been years since I last worked at the cub level though ... There are many wonderful resources online for flags and flag parts. I found a few when we were looking to either get new poles or make poles for the Troop I was working with. Gives you a high 5 for signing up to go through woodbadge ... I promise you it will be a week of adventure you will never forget... I do not know of any kind of woodbadge register, but there has to be some kind of training tracking that Councils do... Troop paying for WB
insanescouter replied to pjstorer's topic in Wood Badge and adult leader training
I have been part of three different troops one as a youth and two as an adult that when the unit has the funds will either pay all or part of training fees ... this could included NYLT, NYLE, Leader Specfic and Woodbadge among others for example we recently paid a portion of the fees to send two of our leaders to a High Adventure Training... but as I said it all depends on fund available and is on a case by case basis approved or denied by the committee.... Where did you have your beading ceremony
insanescouter replied to Melgamatic's topic in Wood Badge and adult leader training
I was planning to be beaded at the closing ceremonies of a Camp-O-Ree I was running, but those doing the beading couldn't make it so it ended up at a Troop Court of Honor... Scott Robertson http://insanescouter.org -

Here are some ideas from an Insane Scouter take them however you wish 1) Cub Scouts can help a Scout Troop with a larger project. Check with Troops in your area and see what they may have going on. Just ensure the Cubs can safely do the project. 2) See if there are an Scouts ready to do there Eagle project - I don't know of many that would turn down extra help. Just as above though ensure the Cubs can safely do the project. 3) Contact some local agencies for example there is a park in the city I live in ran by the state. If Scouts do a service project they can fish in the lake for free and get free entrance to the park. The BLM and Forest Service is often looking for help ask them other then trash pick up how your Scouts maybe able to help them. Contact a local zoo, animal shelter, retirement home, museum, nature conservatory, etc and ask them what they may have for the Scouts to help with. 4) Talk to other Scout Leaders and see what they may know of I will add to this list if I think of more later ... Webelos program for Readyman????.please help!
insanescouter replied to lulu1212's topic in Cub Scouts
Here are my thoughts... 1. talk to local troops, one is bound to want to help 2. find a local military base ... most have medical facilities and go through "war games" ... when I was a Scout at Edwards AFB, the base hospital about once a year would ask the Scouts to help by being victims and at some time would also help expand our first aid knowledge / skills. 3. ask around, for example for a camporee we found out one of the leaders we knew had a son-in-law that was a firefighter ... the son-in-law got together about 5 buddies and they ran or medic station on a rotating basis... maybe you kind find help in a similar way ... Just my wacky 2 cents... Scott Robertson http://insanescouter.org http://www.linkedin.com/in/insanescouter Helping leaders one resource at a time.... -

insanescouter replied to SC_Scouter's topic in Open Discussion - Program
My parents worked with the local troop and moved me in to scouts pretty early becuase my dad was being sent to the Azores (he was activity duty air force) and parents decided to keep us kids state side so dad wanted to get me moved before he left. I think for me it worked out great. Scott Robertson http://insanescouter.org http://www.linkedin.com/in/insanescouter Helping leaders one resource at a time.... -
What would you like to see in online properties such as InsaneScouter.org. What can we offer that we do not now? What do we offer now that we do not need to? If a site was to provide a way for you to add / update any page of content, would you add / update content? I think you get the idea, if not ask away... Here are my thoughts ... 1) I am not 100% sure here but I think it may be possible for a Assistant Scoutmaster to sign off the SM Conference 2) If the SM is not helpful you may need to talk to some one at District level like maybe the District Commissioner or District Advancement Chair may be able to guide you ... also Council can give you some guidance and tell you what the appeal processes are ... 3) I have a friend that had problems and ended up going through a long drawn out process but got appeal and got a board -- he is now an Eagle .... Hope my ramblings were helpful... Scott Robertson http://insanescouter.org http://www.linkedin.com/in/insanescouter Helping leaders one resource at a time....

What happened to all the "normal" people
insanescouter replied to Rythos's topic in Issues & Politics
I just wish they would tell me what they think and will do rather then bashing each other, playing the he said they said / did game, and encourage there followers to take on positive, clean, honest tactics to help there candidate. There is way to much propaganda and what they say and do is based way to much on polls rather then reality. I will say since a few others have ... I am in the middle right now I really don't like either person running ... I have said to a friend taht the perfect match may be if the two VPs ran as a team at least they would balance each other out to a point.... I am still leaning more toward the Obama but only because of a few issues, nothing more... Just my wacky 2 cents... Scott Robertson http://insanescouter.org Helping leaders one resource at a time.... -
I say go on a walk with the SM have a heart to heart. Tell him you are having a problem with a Scout and want his input how to handle it. Like before after you get his answer respond if needed with you thoughts on handling it and then tell him its his own son ... from there if needed calm him down and talk things out .... if the problems continue maybe having a few leaders talk to him may do better but be careful not to make it a complaint session or a every time you talk to him its about problems with his son. Also you may find out he is having a load of problems with son away from Scouts too. I know of a parent in my troop that has that problem. Any way hope my wacky 2 cents helps ... My humble option is let him try it, especially since his parents are around and the Tiger DL seems willing to have him aboard.... I agree with the others do what you can to encourage him and not damper that spirit ... Scott Robertson http://insanescouter.org Helping leaders one resource at a time....
