  1. If you asked a few weeks ago I could have. I was in Grapevine for work and stopped there to see the museum.
  2. I beg to differ, I am now 40 yo, and can tie every knot I learned as a boy. I can start a fire with bare essentials, read a map, use a compass, right a canoe, etc... Why? because my troop practiced the skills. The only bling we earned was Skill Awards, Merit badges, and Rank. That was enough.
  3. Yes there is, the posters above gave you good directions to find it.
  4. I thought they were selling the gear to units. I put in for a tent and a stove through our crew, but was told they decided not to sell them. Are they only selling them through the Scout Shop?
  5. Expos games? Do you have a time machine?
  6. I wear a Lodge flap on my uniform, and I am a Cub leader. The kids ask about it and I tell them what it represents, and it is one more thing they can look forward to when they move on to Boy Scouts. My DE was shocked to learn I actually paid my Lodge dues when I registered.

    Dual roles

My first order of buisness to is to nail down the calendar that was left unfinished. The feelers are out for competent and willing replacement as DL.

    Dual roles

For the time being I will be wearing two hats. The search for a new DL is in motion. The ACM made it clear he would not take the role for only six months(his son is a W2), I was plan A, he was plan B, there was no plan C. I informed my Den first, the Pack was notified shortly afterwards. From the feedback I have received so far, this is a welcome change. Now do I buy another shirt, or velco the leader position patches between meetings?

    Dual roles

The COR is active and helpful so I know I can count on his help to recruit more leaders. Among my list of questions is what is the exit plan of the current CC since he said he has a succession plan. I have no issues with wearing two hats as long as the program doesn't suffer.

    Dual roles

I am the previous year's Tiger DL, one of the other parents is the Pack secretary, another is an ACM who was previously a DL, and not a good choice for CM. I have asked others to be ADL for this year and get excuses. We have no Bear den, and I am not sure of how many incoming Tigers we will have. The pack is small(20), and will get even smaller when the W2s bridge.

    Dual roles

My sole interest is making sure the boys do not lose out with any changes.

    Dual roles

Herein lies the problem, the CC and most of the committee members are parents of W2s and I see no succession plan. The common theme among them is "I have six months left".

    Dual roles

Is it permitted, or possible to assume the roles of DL and CM? Our CM resigned recently and we are meeting to discuss his replacement tonight. I was approached in the past about taking the role when he left, but it was not supposed to be this soon, and I don't want to abandon my boys. There are a few other issues that make me hesitant to take the role on such short notice, but I am afraid if I don't the Pack will be up the creek.
  14. Compared to the a few of the caves I've slept in, my tent is a hotel. Caves are nature. Why does everything have to count for something? Just chalk it up to an experience.
  15. Seeing as this is a Scouter forum, I don't think we are your target audience. What is a Venture Scout?
  16. The don't make any sense to you because you don't agree with them. Venturing and Boy Scouting are two seperate divisions of the BSA, each have different rules, different oathes(for now), oppotunites, and activities afforded to them. The OA just happens to be part of the Boy Scouting program as a youth, and not part of Venturing. It is easy to blame it on the fact there are female Venturers, but it could be coincidental. The OA is not a box to check and move on to the next thing. Are you an Arrowman?
  17. I have the pamphlet, patches, neckercheif, and hat from that weekend. We share the same feelings on the subject, and I know of no plans for 2015.
  18. The OA does not have to come up with a better reason for not allowing Venturing youth as members as they rules in place suffice. If one wants strives to become an arrowmen, he needs to join one of the BSA programs that allow it. I am not anti-Venturing, my daughter is a member of a crew, and I have met many young women who I think would make fine additions to The Order.
  19. I worked at TI for the 75th anniversary(and a few other summers) and was there for the time capsule burial. Efforts by FoTI to have a land conservancy group to help preserve the island for Scouts have not been successful to date. COL council has no desire to open the island again and it sits dormant. The forest is reclaiming much of it, looters have stripped much of the plumbing, and electrical fixtures. Most, if not all buildings are left open. If you are on Facebook, there is a Save Treasure Island page.
  20. From the looks of it, you will jump to Venturing if the elction doesn't go your way. You've been in Scouting less than three years and already attained Eagle. Slow down, have some fun, and help mentor some of the younger boys with the skills you hopefully learned while working towards Eagle.
  21. My daughter was in F subcamp, and said there were no orgies, but a few kids did get sent home for sex in the woods. She did come home saying she has a boyfriend now, we'll see how the long distance thing works with 15yo kids. The crew advisor said F did receive a lot of foot traffic from "non-residents". However all were courteous and respectful. The females, both foriegn and domestic drew them in to F. Apparently the Korean contingent had a party every night, and steel drums were played by the T&T contingent. I sent my daughter with a handful of patches, she came with all of them and a
  22. I have a slight disdain for "professional" Scouters, and Council lackies.
