The idiots running this jamboree
gsdad replied to Basementdweller's topic in Open Discussion - Program
I was asked several times to sign up for shooting sports staff, the cost is what held me back. I can't fathom charging someone $850 to work. -

I'm just waiting for the Ebay flood of Venturing uniforms bought by Scouts whose Council registered them as Venturers to fill their alloted spots. -

Look in here for your Scout. http://www.splat2013.net/docs/index.php -
When my wife was troop leader she,my girls, and a few others had frame packs. Most of the other girls packed in duffle bags. They usually car camped. My wife had a Leatherman which served her well. My daughter was the only one with a pocketknife.

Rumor has it shooting sports staff is light and they might not get everyone through. -

Since many councils are padding their numbers by sending Scouts as Venturers perhaps? -

My wife sat on hold for an hour today , only to be told some participants might not receive their schedules until they arrive. I am quickly losing faith this is going to be a well run event. -
Question about lightning - need your opinion

That sounds like a question best asked at the Scoutmasters meeting the first day of camp. -
Anybody going to the Summit area as a visitor or trader?
gsdad replied to Kahuna's topic in Going to the next Jamboree?
I planned to go as a visitor, but my Pack scheduled Summer Camp for part of the week. The more I thought about it, the idea of driving nine hours, pay to see a fraction of the place, and not be able to visit my daughter and crew in their campsite did not seem too appealing after all. -
My daughter and her crew will be in F subcamp. Momma bear is stressing, I'm just jealous I am not going. My son and I will be at Summer Camp for part fo the time.

The restaurant industry.

IF the events unfolded as you say, get your kids as far away from that Pack as fast as you can. Call me a skeptic, but I think there is more to the story.

Wow, I can agree with BD on something. I received the same email regarding my daughter. They told me they were missing our email address. How is that possible? You emailed me to tell me this. There were also blank boxes on the history, that were not blank on the forms I printed. -

Sure, I'll donate to you. But you also need to donate to my daughter's Jambo fund. She is doing extra chores, babysitting, etc... to cover her costs. Good things come to those who wait, better things come to those who go out and earn them.

I laugh at this as well. What bothers me more is the leaders who refuse to buy the uniform pants. Blue jeans are not uniform pants.
-
Especially if I was in a $200 tent, set up near a camp kitchen, all of which was carried in a troop trailer.

You say paranoid, I say prepared. You are not BP or Green Bar Bill reincarnated. The firearm issue aside, everyone has a different idea of what Scouting is to them. Your view is your view, it is neither right or wrong.

You really need to get over yourself.

When I was a Scout some of the troop leaders bolted to a local establishment for some of what you mentioned. Most of them were Camp Staff Alumni, former Lodge Officers (as youths), and more than one help adult volunteer positions at the Council and District levels. The kids were none the wiser, they adults were not hungover, or smelling like booze the next morning. Of course times were different and men were expected to behave like men, and treated like adults. I wouldn't do it, but I wouldn't begrudge anyone who did.

Every boy is in Scouting for his own reasons, maybe he just wants to go camping. Maybe this is the only outlet from a bad situation at home.

New controversy...Let's let girls into all levels of Scouting
gsdad replied to Just A Rebel's topic in Issues & Politics
I am an Assoc Advisor in all female crew. A few of the girls were in a co-ed crew and didn't like the fact that the boys always wanted to "help" them. They like that they can be be with a group of girls and do the things they've seen or heard their brothers do in Boy Scouts. -

We have 20 Cubs. Trophies when to first, second, and third place. Everyone else was judged and recieved some sort of "Best of" certificate. I was not thrilled with the everyone is a winner approach, but I wasn't consulted either.
