  1. Last year was awesome. We went from like 30 to 72. This year we went from 34 to 59. Many families took a look at the $80+$25 and said no thank you.
  2. You didn’t include world crest, handbook, and socks.
  3. He should discuss it with this merit badge counselor, but I would say no. It says take a trip AND there are other options to meet the equipment that may be better suited for him. Again, his counselor will provide counsel.
  4. Yes. 10,000 participants. 15,000 is including staff. Jamboree really sucked pretty badly compared to past Jamborees. Examples: no “headline” guests (literal promise that Jack Black was going to be there as part of a team building activity was a literal joke), no arena shows (no gathering of everyone at the jamboree, none), only the smaller climbing area was open at the summit, the canopy tour wasn’t open, and not all zip lines were open. My daughters were like “meh, what can I do here that I can’t do at camp?” They CAN Wait Until I Go Back. Not interested in future Jamborees.
  5. I couldn’t stand his video or 2 on uniforms since he has at least a few items out of compliance with standards. Plenty do, but they don’t make a video. He also didn’t point out what he had wasn’t standard.
  6. I’m confused. Are you mixing no 1 on 1 with 2 present at the activity?
  7. I know that collars(neckercheif over or under), hats, and neckerchiefs were unit choice, I never noticed the leather vs. web was. Is that new? It still says that you should have current membership card, but makes it clear you can have digital proof. I love how they keep brining up that you can't have cuffs on the pants. It would be interesting to know who at national is anti-cuff! I have seen that in the awards and insignia guide, but never noticed it here.
  8. Read the guide to advancement. That probably has the most definitive answer. One cannot fail a BoR for not wearing the uniform alone. So, that is about as close as you can get to a position. If the uniform isn't required for a BoR, how could it be required to wear to a meeting? Are you going to turn Scouts away if they aren't wearing it? You do know the Scouts in your troop are just volunteers, right?
  9. Middle School and High School here require it.
  10. Ah! Good. Which kind do you use? We couldn’t find any that seemed to be “designed” for dishes, but since we found the others, we stopped looking.
  11. It sounds like you are not following your own advice. We don’t bring bleach, but you said that your troop does. Hummmm…..
  12. Tablets. Easy to get on Amazon. It seems that the health departments are more on the ammonia tablets as well.
  13. @BetterWithCheddarThanks for sharing. Very helpful comparison.
  14. I think it is to eliminate “outsiders” that have no other connection to scouting besides merit badges. Quite the change from when I was a youth in the ‘80s.
  15. You can. That doesn’t say that there aren’t conditions. A parent must register if they wish to stay overnight. They are not barred from staying overnight. They can only come for the day if not registered.
  16. That is a good point. You are supposed to be registered just if you want to stay at a meeting.
  17. Some / most in our area want a drop off, not a “let’s get involved”.
  18. We have used this very reason to have more moms register. We have them on the committee to help with BOR and a backup for campouts. We have had parents rush through YPT and applications in the nick of time.
  19. Well, there are no exceptions. The girl troop needs more registered female leaders. If one can't attend, the girl troop members can't attend. They can't even "tag along".
  20. @SNEScouterIs this a new appeal due to the Supreme Court or is this “the process still playing out”?
  21. Maybe the unit should start to meet with him to start to clear if any issues proactively (1/quarter?). Drive the narrative vs being hit by it.
  22. You may not wish to share these, but it is hard to have perspective without these details. I guess the council can force you as they are the keepers of the form approvals.
  23. Agreed. No idea. I have become exhausted with things like this and haven’t reached out to advancement people to find out how many are affected. To me this says we don’t want non-scouter MBCs.
  24. Don’t interact with that troop anymore?
