Chapter 11 Announced - Part 8 - TCC Term Sheet & Plan Confirmation
mrjohns2 replied to Eagle1993's topic in Issues & Politics
Posted today on Scouringwire... March 8, 2022 Originally planned for May 23-27, 2022, the BSA National Annual Meeting has been postponed to a later date (to be announced) in 2022. The BSA National Executive Board recently approved the postponement of the National Annual Meeting to accommodate for date changes in the ongoing bankruptcy process. Rescheduling the National Annual Meeting to occur after the BSA emerges from bankruptcy will help to allow sufficient time to prepare to transact all required business. The meeting will be scheduled within 120 days following the BSA’s emergence from bankruptcy, and all business required to be transacted will be conducted at that time. Boy Scouts of America National Chair Dan Ownby has shared the following letter with additional details and rationale for this decision: Look for additional updates in the weeks ahead with further details on the new dates for the National Annual Meeting, registration information, meetings, breakouts, sponsors, and more. -
This discussion made me think of a Scouting "political cartoon" that I saw before, but can't find. It was a "two cell" cartoon with "What they were told Scouting would be" and then the other "What Scouting is". It showed adventure in the outdoors on one side and a meeting in a Church basement on the other. I seem to recall this might have been British. I would love to have a copy if someone knows it and can post a link.

Key 3’s can pull this from my.scouting for those in their unit.

Due to the GSUSA lawsuit, we have been directed to never put girl in front of scout like that. I assume you are talking about a Scouts BSA girl troop and not a Girl Scout Troop? Anyway, I feel like you were let down by your ticket coach! Was that your only uncompleted ticket? With Covid, we were told you could get your item changed to something that could be done. That stinks they didn’t work that with you!

Debate over 72 hour rule - spun from bankruptcy thread
mrjohns2 replied to scoutldr's topic in Issues & Politics
I'd recommend stopping this. Any incidents would not be covered by any BSA insurance. -
You found none of them by googling? I found a few. What did your district say when you asked? You can always go to your local Scout Executive, Council President, or Commissioner if the district can't help. They can get the current one for you. Since you have not detailed your needs for the last 5, it will be hard for anyone to get to the bottom of whatever you were looking for.

I just earned it in November. The Scouter Training Award, council sent me the medal. For the Den Leader Training Award, they didn't. I am just in the process of finding if they stock them or if I have to special order. I'm worried it has been discontinued since I don't see it listed any longer.

Chapter 11 Announced - Part 7 - Plan 5.0 - Voting/Confirmation
mrjohns2 replied to Eagle1993's topic in Issues & Politics
I guess this came out in September, but is dated May? Odd. https://www.scouting.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Charter_Bylaws_May2021.pdf One step forward and one step back? See the page that lists changes: "Article III, Section 7, Clause 10. Eliminated terms limits for members of the Governance and Nominating Committee." -
Acceptable? Yes. Ideal? Not at all.
-
Why? SM conference is one of the most important parts of the SM role.
-
As an ASM?
-
It seems to be very specifically directing the Webelos to work with their spiritual leader or family. So, we’ve left that up to them. I think my daughter picked up trash at the playground at our park.

Can I remove a Scout from the recharter after submission?
mrjohns2 replied to Armymutt's topic in Open Discussion - Program
That is good to know that an “auto posted” unit could be edited. It was awesome that our unit charter posted on 1/7! Record setting for our council. -

Unless you have “all green” and pay by echelon/cc. Then it is set in stone. -
One of the reasons we use Scoutbook, is that if you set the RSVP and permission slip required, you can have a Scout manage this themselves. Also, the calendar now supports the Scribe, SPL, ASPL being calendar editors. It really is heading in the right direction on these sorts of items.
-
We use Scoutbook with a GoDaddy website on the side. I would say that if you already use Scoutbook, I'd just start using that for calendar, RSVPs, permission slips, communication etc. Scoutbook does not have a public facing webpage, so you would have to choose something like GoDaddy or Facebook or others for that.
-
What are you using now?

I think that has been true for a long, long time, maybe "forever". I don't think unit dues are frowned upon. They are separate, but not frowned upon.

From the "ineligible volunteer" files that I read these were handled by the Scout Executive, region, and their appointed "review board" for the case in question. One or 2 of the cases in question were from the mid 1980's. I knew both one of Scouters on the review board and the SE at the time. I think these were kept in pretty small circles and not heard by the larger board.

Chapter 11 Announced - Part 7 - Plan 5.0 - Voting/Confirmation

Most of the alleged issues were long ago. I'd be very very surprised if anyone on the current boards or even SE positions are the same ones that were around when any coverups happened. -
Are you kidding? MBCs wore a sash with MBs? Really? Crazy.

I don't want one enough to order one, but that is totally awesome. Amazing that someone is doing this.

The "requirement" is from national. It is too bad that the adults handled it. If Scouts would have done it, they could have explained it better. I'm not surprised of the disconnect. They could have done it a number of better ways. I think I have seen many bylaws say that all bylaws and policies must conform to national standards and policies. My daughter is on the fence about getting more involved in OA. Can she carve out a corner that is Scout led? Not sure. If she does, I will choose a different area of the lodge that isn't Scout lead, get involved, and lead the Scouts to lead. That would be very rewarding, if adults wouldn't put up a big stink and it was possible.
