  1. Merlyn - Another off topic comment to further an agenda that has a limited number of advocates in Scouting?
  2. Tempted to bring the troop up from FLA to help the scout out. I have seen multiple scouts start and complete their projects with short time constraints. I would have the emails flying this evening
  3. SR540 perhaps in this day and age some consideration could be give to creating a forum for scouts. I am sure that there are quite a few scouts in search of information much like our Eagle. Having their own forum would allow them to strut their stuff without the fear of them alienating anyone due to a different communication style. I would assign a mentor or two that the group could reach out to if they could not solve the issue using their collective genius. Just a thought
  4. I remember reading about a similar situation in Florida in the 2006-2008 time period. Council kicked a well known and liked scouter out for leading the charge against the sale to developers. Fortunately the County stepped in and rezoned the land to recreational use with some other long term provisions. Needless to say the Council was not very pleased with the outcome as they lost out on a 13 million dollar payday. Some of the strategies used may be helpful in your situation. The name of the camp is Camp Flying Eagle
  5. Scouter99 Sorry I was trying very hard not to go there
  6. We encourage the wearing of Cass A uniforms for Cub at all events with the exception of camp activities during the day, They are required to wear the uniform to and from the camp out and at Scouts Own. When asked about wearing the utility uniform to den meetings, we simply point to the books and ask the scout to show us anywhere in the book a scout is seen wearing a utility shirt
  7. KDD, I am having a really hard time understanding your concern or for that matter what is the point. Your PLC has planned the trip probably not knowing or caring whether or not it "counts" for anything. It sounds like they are trying to be creative and are trying to do cool boy stuff. The mental image of the parents and IH sitting around analyzing each move the boys and Scoutmaster makes is a mind bender. I cannot recall our IH ever discussing scout matters other than to thank us for Scout Sunday. No offense intended just trying to understand where you are coming from
  8. Our council in Florida gives 28% plus a sales bonus based on a subjective formula/ The boys do still receive prizes and our vendor is Trails End
  9. Nothing for RichardB here, I am sure its a photo shop job
  10. The nightmare would be a used bus breaking down in the middle of nowhere on a Friday night headed to an outing
  11. Best answered by the creator of the poll. I find it interesting that he starts off with the hate line. I'm with BD on this, not worth my time to select an option
  12. Mark Knoller â€Â@markknoller2h Pres Obama back at WH after nearly 5 hour round of golf in mid-90s heat. Is that fun? Really appreciated the King of Sweden, Mike Rowe and the performers. Great show
  13. Refreshing JoeBob, can't stop laughing! Thanks for the Will Rogers logic
  14. Sounds like he or his parents are really not interested in Scouts. His Bobcat badge is a no brainer. Why spend the extra time with him if he cannot earn this?
  15. Try moving your meeting start time to either 10 minutes after the hour or 10 minutes before. This should help you with the adult who is late on a regular basis. I would make every effort to keep them at an hour. Most of the boys start to lose interest and get restless if the meetings go longer
  16. KDD, I have tried to respond to each of your comments below "Thanks for the info, I have previously reviewed it. I have not contacted national, but expressed my extreme displeasure with the Swimming MB to the Camp Director. I suppose he is part of the problem as well and I should take my concerns higher. Thanks for the nudge." Not sure what position you hold in either unit however anyone who witnesses "health and safety" issues needs to talk to someone about it. It's not really about you but more of a safety concern for all of the scouts at the camp while you were their and tho
  17. KDD, In the interest of camp attendees safety, I would assume that you called the national aquatics director to register your concerns? I have attached the requirements for lifeguards interested in crossing over to BSA life guards. i have also attached the link to the Aquatics resource page that will answer your questions regarding the supplemental testing needed by Red Cross and Y lifeguards prior to receiving BSA certification. As you have shown an interest in aquatics, perhaps you should volunteer for your council aquatics council. 3. Crossover Challengeâ€â€Anyone who holds
  18. Kristian says "some councils have totally made up numbers to meet certain goals though this practice isnt that common even though it continues despite repeated investigations." Do you have any evidence to back this statement up? Your other post relied on 10-25 year old data from a BSA hate site. Trying to understand your statement- totally made up/ isnt that common /even though it continues
  19. KDD Disagree with you comment about BSA aquatics in the strongest terms. I hope that as your son advances in scouting you get the opportunity to meet some of the highly trained and serious aquatics directors and staff. I had the pleasure of taking paddle craft safety and water rescue from some very serious and highly trained volunteers. They would not give any scout or adult a pass on less than full compliance with the requirements. I could see that happening with a lifeguard trained at the Y. BSA would love to have all of its Y lifeguards certified using BSA requirements. Hopefully you are
  20. Just had the same thing happen at our Cub Scout Day Camp. The after lunch speaker was delayed for a beading ceremony. The good news was that it only took 20 minutes, the bad news was that you had over 200 cubs of all ages sitting in the sun watching something that they knew nothing about nor cared. I still don't understand why someone would put on a uniform in the middle of the day and drive out to camp to receive beads in front of people they did not even know.
  21. sarcasm continued, I had the hardest time convincing the SM of our troop that he had to do SMC for our boys crossing into the troop. In five years he had never had the pleasure of doing one. The last two happened the night before cross over
  22. Triple Yikes!!! Lots of exposure here for a bunch of people. Safety of the boys is paramount. COR needs to ensure all of the leaders have YPT as a minimum
  23. The cub master is brand new. She's also the bishop's wife and feels she must stay in a favorable position with everyone, so she doesn't get into stuff. A question for you. Are all of your leaders trained?
