  1. Heck, down here in Central Florida they can only be purchased with a proper advancement report turned in!
  2. Funny that you say that an LDS Scouter did not know about the Tiger program, when it was PILOTED in the LDS Units of National Capital Area Council back in the 80s ... (actually, Tiger and Varsity were piloted at the same time). I was a UC for several LDS Wards back then. (Yes, a non-LDS UC for LDS units.)
  3. Welcome and enjoy the virtual campfire.
  4. I concur with Ten Bears. In fact, we had two adults who did not complete the Tooth climb in my '72 crew, and therefore did NOT put the tail over their shoulder.
  5. Or a sleeping bag. Had my 20* bag when I was dealing with gales on Lake Michigan on a 75-ft Yard Patrol craft in November of 1975. I was nice and comfy.
  6. Short-sleeve, collarless, scout shirt: http://www.box.net/shared/v6o9zpkae9 Long-sleeve, collarless scout shirt: http://www.box.net/shared/g74j5piehl (This message has been edited by UCEagle72)
  7. I had set-up "compatibility mode" for scouting.org and IE8 worked just fine. I'd would have much rather used FF, or Chrome, but since this was new material I wanted to test with what they recommended first.
  8. True ... but I just clicked through the pages until I did all three "quizzes" ... it went pretty fast that way.
  9. I ran through and completed them all today. No glitches or gotchas. Just stick to Internet Explorer 7 (I used 8 in compatibility mode) and it worked fine.
  10. BadenP - actually "the Uniform" is one of the 8 Methods of Cub Scouting. Check the Cub Scout 2010 program.
  11. Indeed the LS shirt did have a collar and accommodated a tie -- and at one time, there was also a 'uniform coat' - the first ADC I trained with in '76 still wore one. Square neckers all the way! Of course, I think I still have one or two from my days as a Scout - but even then ('69-76), they were not common. BTW - for anyone searching for the stamp that '92 mentioned - http://www.myphilately.com/asset/u91188_Nederland205.jpg
  12. Those scouts who have an "older, more experienced" leader will wear their necker with a slip knot in the end (Boy Scout Handbook, 7th Edition, page 59). In my Troop, the tradition was that we secured the ends of the necker with a square knot, and each patrol had their own necker color. You will frequently see Scouts from Europe wearing a necker without a woggle (or "neckerchief slide," if you prefer), but theirs are usually tied at the end with a friendship knot (http://www.hoac-bsa.org/Libraries/Resourse_Forms_Documents/RES_Friendship_Knot_Instructions.sflb.ashx). They'll even wea
  13. I love Old Town canoes. Hard to go wrong with one of their models. They stand up to years of use and abuse.
  14. "Uniform" is one of the 8 methods of Scouting. While there may be changes in what a "uniform" is -- I seriously doubt we will ever completely remove the "uniform." Heck, even Venturing Crews who elect their own crew uniform, must wear "Venturing Green" to attend scouting functions like NYLT, NAYLE, or Jambo.
  15. With gusto Beavah ... being in tune is always optional! I used to be a Beaver ('83), and a good ol' Staffer too ('84), But I'll always be an Eagle ('72).(This message has been edited by UCEagle72)
  16. I was part of a group of 6 Eagles in 1972, and it was held during the regular COH. I know of a later group of 8 (which a few waited, just to break our record). And honestly, having been to a number of ECoH, I think "Eaglezilla" is not an unfair comment. I like the Eagle recognition being part of the normal Troop CoH. You did the work with your Troop. It is the Scouts in your Troop who helped you on your service project. It should be a Troop celebration.
  17. My "mother Troop" in Michigan has done this for the last 42 years (and some 250+ Eagles). It has always worked well, and it just means keeping the program focused, and "moving along." The SPL serves as Master of Ceremonies.
  18. Well ... August 16 has come and gone ... no update ... ah, well.
  19. Not seen anything like that here yet, so it may be a local Council requirement.
  20. I just hope this time, the address field on the adult app will take the complete address, like the youth form does!
  21. Varsity is a program centered around sports, and works off a sports theme. It is the same age group as Venturing (14-21) but I have never seen a Varsity team that was not connected with an LDS ward. Just another way to keep older Scouts engaged. 14 year old First Class Scouts, who join a Varsity team, are allowed to continue working on advancement to Eagle until they reach 18.
  22. I heard end-of-July but never considered it a possibility because of Jambo. Last report I have is late August-September.
  23. I think that all depends on the Stake. I recently did an Eagle Board of Review for one of our LDS Troops here in Central Florida, and the Troop Advancement Chair was a women (which means she was part of the Troop Committee).
  24. You should have been at AP Hill for the first Jambo there in '81 -- trust me, it weren't anything like I have seen this year!
