It wasn't our trailer, but I will send on the words. I sent out the info to all of our parents so that we can be on the lookout. Hopefully the pack will get their stuff back. I was talking woth some of our other leaders the past few days, and they all agree. When we get a trailer, we will prevent this by storing it at our CC's house. He has two rather large German Shephards and another LARGE dog. I think there might be some hesitation to try to get the trailer.

John in KC -Had the President called General Mobilization, had he used the incredible pool of talent in civilian occupations and professions which the Reserve Components bring to the table- The reserves and National guard make up over half of the fighting force in Iraq. I went as a national guardsman. I am out now, but if I was told that I would have to go back, then give me my equipment, and I hope that someone would stand next to me. I can say that IF SADAM can hide full sized Migs in the desert sand, then he can surely hide some WMD's. Or like someone else said, give them to someone else. As for the question of "If he had WMD, why did he not use it on the US during the invasion" Because if he did then Bush would be right. and then the world would have to respond. Not to mention, the US military is trained in tactics of fighting while in NBC gear. Sorry, I saw a lot of things that got my attention. I was thinking one time, since there are those that believe that if it is not on US soil then we need to stay out of it. THe last time that there was a full out war on US Soil, (That I can think of).... Anyone....anyone....The Civil War. All these were in foreign Countries WWI Europe and other countries WWII Europe and other countries Korea (DUH) CUBA Vietnam Panama HERMS I liked the original post.

We have a patrol box for our Cub Scouts. I love it and it makes for a good working area when it comes time to make chow. I think that they are great to have. But as some of you are saying, there is backpacking camping. If we all just agree that they have a place on some trips and not on others then everyone can see where we are coming from. I love our patrol box, but I would still love to go lightweight one day, but that is just not reasonable at this time, due to the age of our Cubs.

http://www.pamlicoseabase.org/main.html Pamlico Sea Base. They have a 7 or 9 day kayak trek up the coast of NC. I look foward to this when my boy is old enough.

http://www.caswellbsa.org/ One of our packs had their trailer and camping gear stolen. This is a pack in my district. THis just seals the deal that whenever we get one, someone is keeing it at their house. I have some choice words for the people that too this, but the moderators my send me some reprimand

I got my first copy in 6 months today. I filled out the survey. I have one thing to say. We are volunteers. We pay registration, buy leaders books, uniforms, pay for registration to weekend trips, day camps and such, and now they want to make us pay for the only free resource that we get. I too like to sit back and read the print version. Don't need technology, just light. And that can be the light of the campfire. I even get first crack at the boys life mag when it comes. I still like those mags when they arrive. If they make us pay for Scouting Mag, I may just elect to not recieve it.

"I think that's one of the tricks ... have fun things for the youth to do immediately." We also had our pack meeting last night and talked about some of our upcoming events. One of them is a pack campout. We will be going to the Battleship NC and then camp at a State park. We have 7 boys from last year that are aware and waiting for this campout. As for the new boys, it will be optional. We will work hard to get all those that want to go, going on the trip. But I am not gonna stress over it. If they want to go then everything is good. For those of you who know how things have been going this past year, our committee is getting better, bigger, and more organized. I have completed BALOO training, and we are planning a pack training day next month. This will be for all of the leaders to make sure that we are up to date. I am planning this a little bit out so that I can find out what other new leaders I have. Here's to another great year in scouting.

Just for some more specifics, I figured up the numbers 12 Tigers (One of which is the new Tiger Leaders Son) 7 New Wolf 2 New Bears 3 New WEB1 1 New WEB2 The Webelos 2 will probably be going to another pack as they already have a den and it would be a benefit to him. So with that said what does everyone think I will get with the numbers now. Just trying to be realistic.

I was wondering if anyone out there had some experience with recruiting signs ups. I was wondering how many boys you actually had join the pack, after their parents signed the contact list. We had 24 names added to the list that we started and I was wondering if there was any history of how many I could expect to actually join. Just trying to find out how many leaders I need to recruit also.

Atlanta scoutmaster’s zeal inspires generations

This is the type of person that people need to hear about when they are talking about leaving scouting because theier kid is. I would love toshake this mans hand and congradulate him on his years of service. -
I also saw one in the How-To Book. I was thinking about these myself

I am looking for some ideas on what I can do for one of our electives. We will be doing the American Indian Picture Words project. I am wondering what kind of medium I could use. Meaning what kind of display and materials should I use for this project. Lookinng for something that when we are done, we can use to display at our pack meeting so that the parents can see what we are doing. I have som ideas, but I would like to get some more.

"The last time my sister in law's cell phone rang, I burst into "Kill da wabbit, kill da wabbit..." Strange looks all the way around... " I was talking with a co worker and bust out with that tune and they too gave me looks of "What Drugs are you on?" They said that they never heard that before. But fortunatly my kids like some of the classic cartoons. They are wearing out the Popeye DVD that my mother got for them. Some things just never get old.

I always thought the Whittlin' Chip was for Cub Scouts???? I did not know that it was for Boy Scouts.

wingnut I like your idea about the leaders talk after the campfire. I was just wondering if there was a way that the creator could creat one for this board. Another board taht I visit and post on has a user requested forums. I think that a forum for leaders talking about things after the boys go to sleep (So to say) would be a great idea. does anyone understand what I an trying to say through my babble.

I think what I will do is get some of the small copies of the boys life magazines that they have at the council. They use those for give aways, or at least they did last year. I am aslo thinking about getting some of the banners and stuff from the council. I am also going to see if they have any of the folders and stuff like that for those parents that sign their son up. I am thinking about putting some things like our newsletter, some flyers about up coming Day Camps and some phone lists for the parents so they know who to contact. And I may also include a list of jobs that we could still use filled for leadership in the pack along with the description of what the job is. Kind of making a new parents packet.

I can see where you are coming from with this. IMO they do not have to have it memorized. For the most part they will be able to memorize most of the things. When we did this last year, we had the boys say the Promise and Law of the pack together. We also did one thing where each boy would have one line from the Promise and they would all have a part to say. This is also a good team building excersize. Hope that helps. If you do that you should have them ready to recieve their BobCat at the First Pack Meeting. Try making games of it and have fun. Don't forget to include anyother boys that are new Cubs. Bobcat is required for all ranks when they join scouting. Remember KISMIF Yis SctDad

Bob I am looking at some of the things on that list. I am going to contact my council center to see if they have any of it for me. Den Zero We do the Pinewood Derby. But I can see where you are coming from. Being a low budget pack I think that we could just make a display of some of our cars and let the boys see them. Although I might pass the Rain Gutter regatta idea about at our pack committee meeting next week. that may be something fun for the boys. Keep the ideas coming.

"As far as the service academies I personally saw a Army or Navy lax player this year sport crossed lax sticks on his calf. I wonder what kind of waiver he needed" The tattoo is on the leg, and not seen in the class A uniform. No waiver needed. But I will say that I knew a guy in the Army that ran Cross country when he was in HS. He said that the tat that he got, Crossed Arrows, was the symbol of Cross country runners. But the guys in the SF unit did not take kindly to it. Their branch insignia is the crossed arrows, and that is something that they hold very highly and protected. I guess there are some things that you may get that can turn around to bite you in the end.

As for the Army policies on tats. The last one that was put out was along these lines. Tatoos should not be seen when the soldier is wearing the Class A uniform. including anything above the neck. As for the gang related tatoos, they are supposed to get tehm covered before the recruiter lets them sign the papers. Same thing for the tats of ladies. There are many tatoos of ladies dressed in bikinis. My personal opinion is, if they are distasteful and obscene, they should be able to be covered with the uniform. Example. If there is a questional tat on the forearm, consider asking the parent to get a long sleeve uniform shirt. We must remember, at a time of great difficulty, when we ask for volunteers, we should be careful about how we go about making comments on things like tattoos.

I like the idea. Sounds like you are good with your intentions. But I know when I went through scouts, there was no war going on and finding someone might be difficult. Just so that everyone has correct information. The national guard is not only serving here in the US during disasters and locally with civil duties. The majority of the forces (especially Army) in the middle east, are guardsmen and reservists. So the guard is all over to include combat operations. Just thought I would chime in on that

Moxieman Sounds like you and went to the same camp. My ordeal was done at Camp Hinds at the beginning of Summer Camp '94. We built some new seats in the campfire ring there. I guess if we are talking about the same summer camp them our pressure treated wood did not hold up all that well. I also spent many days in the tower at the waterfront. I can see where you would be talking about the waterfront being on a slope and needing the retaining wall. I worked there as a staff member that year. CIT. Is this the camp that you are talking about. Drop me a PM some time. I guess I would have to say that all of the projects that we go through and complete as ordeal members do not last as long as we hope. But we can only hope that our work lasts long enough for the scouts and leaders to enjoy it. PS Does the boat area still have that huge bell???(This message has been edited by SctDad)

Iggle required merit badges, which would you add?
SctDad replied to Gold Winger's topic in Advancement Resources
My son is not in boy scouts yet. I was 3 MB short of Eagle. I think they were the Citizenship MB "Sewing (and no, that was not is jest)" - I think this is something that is importand. Maybe not as a MB but as a requirement. When I was a scout, my mother told me that if I was gonna keep earning MB's and earning and rank, that I was gonna have to learn to sew them on. Hey, that was reasonable. Earn a total of 21 merit badges (10 more than you already have), including the following: First Aid, Citizenship in the Community, Citizenship in the Nation, Citizenship in the World (maybe these could be combined) Communications, Personal Fitness, Emergency Preparedness OR Lifesaving, (You must choose only one of these two merit badges. If you have earned more than one of the badges listed, choose one and list the remaining badge to make your total of 21.) Environmental Science, (This always seemed like a classroom MB. I saw it offered at camp and wondered about that. Different subject) Personal Management, (Like someone said, maybe combine this and family life Swimming OR Hiking OR Cycling, (add backpacking) (You must choose only one of these three merit badges. If you have earned more than one of the badges listed, choose one and list the remaining badges to make your total of 21.) Camping Family Life. I would add Wilderness Survival, One of these (Canoeing, Rowing, Small boat sailing, as noted above And maybe something along the lines of how to craft stuff. (Leatherwork, Metalwork, Home repairs, basketry, pottery.) Gives the boys another skill that can be interesting That is just my two cents worth.
