I stumbled upon this in wiki today and had not heard of this Scouting organization before. The Boy Scouts of the United Nations existed from 1945 through perhaps the early 1980s as the Scouting association serving the families of diplomats and staff of the United Nations, active in both Geneva and at Parkway Village in New York. The organization sponsored groups in India, Lebanon and Cyprus and had ties to the International Boy Scouts of the Canal Zone.

That term is new to me too. I would recommend those who attempt to virtue signal, first take the high ground like back in the day.

Hard to understand parents who shop around for the best school, teachers, doctors, tutors, coaches ...would think Boy Scouts is the same everywhere. But when I ask, they remind me we are a national organization , wear the same uniform, same handbooks, same Oath and Law,... Well yes, but all scouting is local, too late. My $0.02

Now called the next generation of Youth Protection or Youth Protection 2.0 or YPT2 or YPT-2 not to be confused with YPT-2 (circa 2015) ... registered leaders are to complete by Oct 1, 2018 . But note Adults accompanying units on activities who are present at the activity for 72 hours or more, must take YPT2. The 72 hours need not be consecutive. Update from KIFI/KIDK news: There were three groups of Boy Scouts in the 17 Mile Cave when it filled with smoke early Saturday morning but, it wasn't their fire. Good points. Maybe when the smoke clears , we will know more. I have not camped in a cave, nor have I built a fire in a cave. Someone obviously got outside the cave to call 911.

IMHO, merit badges were (long ago) more about the Adult Association Method . Advancement was secondary and perhaps a misnomer. In half or more of your merit badges, you were being introduced to new knowledge and skills to advance yourself in life later. The scout had to obtain the blue card and contact info from his Scoutmaster. The scout had to contact the Merit Badge Counselor himself, often more than once, and occasionally other more available MBC's. Council/District had to provide qualified counselors. My Archery MBC competed internationally, Firemanship was a NJ Fire Chief/Fire

Another cave rescue. Lots of preparation and excitement was put into this Boy Scout Troop's big snow camping trip in the caves near Idaho Falls and then early this Sat Feb 24 morning around 2:40 a.m. everything went wrong.
