  1. Great. I hope you enjoyed it and met some new scouters.

  3. I guess we've been pretty lucky, in that, we had parents step up to lead the dens. I can tell you that we have over lapped established dens to get things rolling with new leaders. Only thing you have to be careful about is having new leaders think this is the way it will always be. It is easy to get the older boys and leaders to help with bobcat meetings. You just have to be clear that they will be on their own once they get moving. We also pass down the leader notebooks for each rank. Leader notebooks have information from previous leaders of that rank.
  4. Nice job. You'll find a good place to get beaded.
  5. Parents pay 55 dollars up front. Pack buys the awards and patches.
  6. That must be pretty cool to do it ar Philmont. I used to be an Owl. Now a staffer I will be. Hopefully I can do as good of job as was done for me.
  7. Troops getting involved more with the Packs would be a win win. I'd want to be careful not to crowd out any cub scout volunteer from participating. I'd rather them be in more of a supportive roll. Take positions like Camp outs coordinator or Pack Trainer.
  8. "...the summertime award scouts receive should match their current rank rather than the rank they are working on (ie, boys who have attained the rank of Tiger will receive the Tiger pin even though they are in a Wolf Den and working towards the Wolf rank..." This is my understanding too. Otherwise Webelos I wouldn't have a pin for Summertime activities. The only issue is when Tigers start early and do summertime right off the bat.
  9. I think if you're looking for ways to promote scouting you could be generic. Hand out council flyers pointing people to beascout.org to find packs in their area. Have council events listed and tell them that more exciting events awaits them with your chosen pack.
  10. That's about what we do. We just had ours. Last year we made rockets. This year the kids were full of energy so we started with a game of soccer. Parents stayed inside and talked to CM. Then we did a craft.
  11. Mini paper rockets is always a hit. Get about a 6" pvc pipe. Then make paper rockets to slide over them. I used 3x5 index cards for the body, cone and fins. Kids can shoot them a good distance just by blowing through the tube. It's the same principle as the larger paper rockets just using scout air rather than compressed.
  12. We have made key racks, bird house, paper mach bear, bat house, recipe holder, bird feeder, tin relief, sun art paper, clay art and pots, collect large nuts and use googly eyes to create a scout diorama. Get a Leader How to book, http://www.scouting.org/filestore/hispanic/english/33832_WEB.pdf
  13. Books are arriving at your local scout store. I picked up my books last week. I've been busy lining up fun events for my cub scouts to work on their nova awards.
  14. Our first activity is orientation at the schools. We'll set up a table with all the crafts and trophies the kids earned. We have a flyer to hand out. We invite them to our picnic on Saturday and our open house next Thursday. We'll also do a t.v. appearance on the school news and put flyers in all the boys Monday folders.
  15. We do one pack activity per month. That leaves 3 meetings for dens.
  16. I've been doing Denner since Wolf. The cords didn't last long. The pin got ripped out.
  17. we do emergency preparedness every year since tigers. The McGruff Child Identification kit is perfect for them to do at Tigers. Each year it gets a little more complex.
  18. we have done scavenger hunts with hidden things and natural things. We've done compass treasure hunts. Each marker had a letter and they have to go to each marker to figure out what it says.
  19. Hopefully, we can do the extra work to earn the pin.
  20. I plan on recognizing individuals by the award they earned by doing the BL requirements if they've already earned the BL once.
  21. As a unit leader, our UC has never done one but I've thought about asking her to do it. It would add a little formality to it, IMO. As a unit commissioner, I've never asked or told my units I was going to perform an inspection. I do take note of how many are in uniform to fill out the UVTS each month.
  22. That's great! Keep up the good work. It's a big relief when you're finished but it never ends
