  1. Wow, you are a very active UC. The pack I'm starting off with is a pretty well established unit. I don't think I'm going to be that active. I don't mind helping them in anyway I can as UC though, I guess I'll find out tonight.
  2. What kids of things do you expect or would like to get from your UC? I'm going to my first pack as their UC tonight. I'm bringing training info, upcoming council/district events, info on JTE and the new Tour Plan along with a few health forms to get them going on getting their scouts to fill them out.
  3. There's not a lot of difference in my council/district. Probably because our district is the hub of our council. I know that each of our 3 districts provide training , day camps and round tables to name a few things. My DE asked me if our unit wanted him to go in to the schools for us. Maybe I'm just one of the lucky ones.
  4. Training BSA Camp Facilities Summer Camp/Day Camps/Family Camps Round Tables Web site info Calendar of council events I don't expect them to do the unit level stuff for me. That's my job. I know that if you asked some Troops/Packs in my council they'd say district provides nothing for them. That is because they don't take advantage of the stuff they do provide. I see the same people showing up at roundtable. I know we're short Unit Commissioners and that's a problem. That shouldn't stop anyone from using what is provided with a little effort on their part. Scouting is wha
  5. Great idea! I've thought about doing that but haven't yet. Let us know how it turns out. Might be on the menu next camp out.
  6. Our pack is listed in the same location as 3 other packs. None of which are in the location the pin is at.
  7. It's understandable but a shame. I learn all kinds of things from RTs. Most importantly I make connections with other scouters.
  8. I have no problem sharing the schools with the other pack. In fact, I tell the parents and kids to check both out and pick the one they feel most comfortable at. Both packs are great. I thing most kids just go where they see most of their friends going.
  9. We go in to 2 schools. There is one other pack that also recruits from these two schools. There is a private school we also get some kids from but that is word of mouth.
  10. We used pvc pipe to make our first aid kits. We added a eye screw on one end cap to be able to hang it.
  11. Our Day Camp policy is 1 volunteer per 4 scouts. Each Den had at least 3 adults supervising/leading.
  12. It's a good idea. I hate having to turn away kindergarten boys at our school roundup. As long as the activities are age appropriate, it's all good. Just like Tigers it's a parent/child program.
  13. We did a very popular tinfoil dinner. It was buffet style with the choices of fish, shrimp, chicken, scallops and hamburger. There was also canned whole potatos, peas, baby carrots.
  14. We have a really great scout store. If I walked in and told them the deal they would look up the online advancement to verify it.
  15. cool program. I'm going to try and get this rolling for next year. THANKS!
  16. Thank you, I will try to make a mock up launcher soon. We have open house in August. Any suggestions would be welcome.
  17. I'm sorry for what happened to your son. I appreciate you posting this. I am a Leader with several sons of single parents. I will use your words to improve my own perspective. My only advice is, don't let this inccident own your son or you. What happened was wrong and it should be confronted and resolved for ALL people involved. Even if in the end you chose to drop out of scouting don't let your son think that he can be bullied. Bad things happen in life and he needs to know it can be overcome. What ever you decide I wish you and your son the best.
  18. What's with you Bob Whites. My wife has already finished two of her tickets and it's only been a month since she finished Wood Badge Training. Congradulations on your tickets. I'm still sitting on all 5 tickets to complete.
  19. Never heard of a WB dinner or breakfast. We have a pretty small council and WB is only offered once every two years. Sounds like fun. I wouldn't mind seeing all my Wood Badge friends get beaded. I guess that's the bonus of having a small council. I know everyone that would be getting them pretty well.
  20. Yes, I think Den Leader is one of the best jobs in Scouts. Keep your eye out for training events and go to roundtables when you can. It's not just about training but also making connections with other scouters.
  21. I know exactly how you feel. I recently lost one cub and it's not easy to take. I "kinda" have lost several now that baseball season has started up. Like LisaBob says, "You can't reorder other people's priorities for them."
