  1. Thanks for all the encouragement. The best part about WB is the people connections you make. My tickets are going to take a while because some of them will be done at the start of next year. Patience isn't one of my stronger suits. If I could I'd get them done next weekend I would. Darn all those time requiremnts.
  2. That's a nice B&G spread. I'm a couple of years behind you with my last son working to Bear this year.
  3. It was fantastic. The staff was great! Now, I'm going to work my tickets if I can. Long live the Mighty Owl!
  4. Great idea. Keep us posted as to how things turned out.
  5. I'm headed back next week and it has been worth it for me. The course all about being a successful troop and patrol. They work on the dynamics with in patrols, leadership , listening and team building skills. How to conduct service projects and LNT. It gets you thinking about how you deliver scouting. It also connects you to other dedicated scouters. If you don't think you want to take it yet, don't. Wait until your ready to get with other Scouters to have some fun and hopefully learn something. I used to be an Owl...
  6. That's easy. I take them to my mother and she sew them on for us.
  7. We don't use them. I bought my son one and loaded it up with all his patches but he doesn't wear it. Probably because he's the only one in the Pack that has one. I use it as a prop when I go to schools to recruit. Lots of great ideas about making them and passing them out. I have no idea what the scouts do with all the patches they earn.
  8. I saw her last night. She comes by about once a month. She is at most roundtables. She's also pretty quick to respond to an email if I have a question.
  9. My wife (Tiger Leader) is really good at origami so we make those little boxes to put in awards.
  10. We have done serveral things that count. We made a rooster recipe holder for Mother's Day and a key shaped key hanger for Father's Day. This year we will be making a picture frame for Mom. Not sure what we'll make for Dad this year.(This message has been edited by austinole)
  11. I asked him if he wanted to and he said yes. We went to school orientation and met with the three representatives of the packs there. We went to the first pack and stayed. I was a cub scout and briefly a boy scout. My parents were my Den Leaders. Now I am my son's Den Leader. My wife is the Tiger Den Leader.
  12. Check to see if the International Space Station is flying over. Print out a star map and work on astronomy http://www.heavens-above.com/
  13. It's not an option for our kids. We add it to the pack registration fee and everyone gets it. My son enjoys getting his mail every month and we read most all the stories. He really enjoyed reading about the cave campers this past month. I recall getting boys life when I was a scout and I always flipped straight back to the cartoons.
  14. is that unique? There are many Churches involved in Scouting. I would think the LDS could do something about it but I don't see why Scouts would single out one Church over all the others.
  15. you're good or your kids are really good. I need parents close by because the kids are bouncing off the walls. Maybe I shouldn't start meetings by sugar eatting contests.
  16. Thanks for the heads up on scoutlander.com
  17. I'm a Wolf DL too this year. Woodbadge starts in Feb 2011 for me. My wife is the Tiger DL. Still trying to talk her in to going to WB. She's wants to go but with kids it's about scheduling.
  18. That's a great idea ScoutNut. I didn't think about being able to put all their beads on it.
  19. I hope so. We're making ours this year. I got a leather kit and the boys will customize their own to go on their belts. I want their pockets for the Centinial Patch we're working on.
  20. Maybe I did it wrong but I had two events each month. I didn't want any scouts to miss out because family vacations got in the way. I think the spirit of the idea is to keep them involved all through summer.
  21. I did a buffet one campout. They could chose from chicken, scallops, shrimp, salom and hamburgers. We just got the bags of frozen stuff from Walmart. We added butter and garlic and all turned out really well. A really good addition is canned whole potatos. Just add salt and pepper and they will come out great. For desert the banana boat is a winner. Cut out a wedge of the banana fill it with marshmellos and chocolate chips. It's really good. Make the foil packs with a handle and name on them so it's easy to move them around.
  22. You must be my long lost twin. I am exactly the same way. I'm the DL of my son's wolf den. I try to have everything planned out but I go so quickly through it I'm done in about 15 minutes. This den meeting I'm going to divide it up so I can't rush so much. We're going to have an outdoor activity to work out some of that energy (hopefully). Then do some inside work. You're not alone.
