  1. We have diversity in my small town. We have white people whose ancestors came from Sicily and Kentucky to work in the Nabisco plant who are protestant and we have white people whoce ancestors came from Sicily and Kentucky to work in the Nabisco plant who are Catholic. We've never had a riot.
  2. Bob & FOG, Hey did you guys know that you're both ASMs. What kind of person would it take to be SMs of your respective troops? That's a position I sure couldn't envision myself in. Probably the toughest job in Scouting. Tell us about him or her, please.
  3. Good answer FOG, It's good that you and Bob White are working together now, let's patch up this rift and reconstruct this burned bridge. You two "smart guys" working for a common goal in the same direction would be a Scouting Force to be reckoned with. It would also be a lot more comfortable for the rest of us on this thread. Take a pull on the cyber peace pipe. Trail "Peacebuilder" Pounder
  4. http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=37761 Opinions on what the General Conference is going to produce? Methodist Scouters ought to "Be Prepared".
  5. The National American Legion put the word out that they support BSA 100%. If I was starting a new unit, or considering moving a unit, that's where I'd start. I've never met a more supportive bunch than the Legionaires who charter our ship. No more worrying about how the wishy washy church committees and ministers are going to smack you with a monkey wrench, no more worrying about the public school cutting your legs from under you, all you'd have to deal with is a bunch of older, not too PC, combat veterans, who were mostly scouts when they were boys who can't hold back from telling you all about it. Go Legion!!!
  6. Mama Mama can't you see, What Sea Scouts has done to me. Left two three four Mama Mama don't you know, Hoist the jib, we gotta go!
  7. Mrs. Smith, You mentioned that you've been observing for a month, that you haven't been trained, and yet something is wrong enough that you want to relieve the Scoutmaster, but you won't say why. I don't think you shoud to be going in front of the committee requesting the Scoutmaster be fired too quickly. I don't think you should talk to the Chartered Org Head or the Chartered Org Rep until you've taken all the training. Sign on as ASM and attend religiously. Everytime someone has any grievance there's 27 good intentioned people from this forum advising them to make demands of the CO. If I had a parent that sat quietly by for a month and then went to the Legion Commander looking to get me canned because she didn't like my program, I'd probably not care for that too much. If, on the other hand, an active fellow volunteer, who has traveled down to the twin cities for training, sold popcorn, went to roundtables, helped with camporees, slept in the snow, went backpacking, was there on Scout Sunday, helped with JLT, had some advice on running program, I'm all ears and would love the help. Work your way in, don't throw gas on the fire.
  8. Mrs. Smith, I'll bet your volunteering as ASM in order to help the current leaders get the Troop Committee, PLC, Patrols, Training, Themes, YP, TLC, and agendas all in motion would be greatly appreciated. If the SM seems overwhelmed a heads-up ASM like yourself, would be the perfect fix. Good Luck Mrs. Smith!!!
  9. Hope y'all have a Great Friday!!!(This message has been edited by Trail Pounder)
  10. Hi Dave, Good to see you're all moved and back on line. Went to Lake Geneva and the LBPU this past wekend. Met the Sea Scouters from your old area. A great group they are. I took my trusty 1st Mate with me and the first person we see as we're walking to registration is one of my fellow "training junkies" from Powderhorn. One year we meet in Kentucky, last week in Wisconsin, what's next? TP
  11. Should I have posted twice?
  12. What violation of the book has your skipper violated?
  13. Going south into Elburn on Rt 47, SPEED TRAP, SPEED TRAP, SPEED TRAP.
  14. Everybody ought to save up their pennies with this goal in mind. Contributing to this endowment could dramatically reduce the need to be fundraising dependent on other not-so-reliable organizations. I like the idea. I am saving to contribute to the West fellowship. The knot would be "I put my money where my mouth is knot" and should be worn proudly in front of every Lexus owner who gripes about the price of a Boy Scout handbook.
  15. What's the average length of time it takes a high-speed, low-drag Sea Scout to go from Apprentice to Quartermaster? What do you find as sticking points, hurdles, or obstacles to overcome?
  16. 80% of the Catholic priests who sexually assaulted children were homosexual. Why would anyone fight for homos to be scout leaders? Wouldn't that be like putting a cougar in the hen house? An even more target rich environment than they had with their parish youth? This CAN'T ever happen. Period.
  17. When I was a senior in high school, I read W.E.B. Griffin's "Brotherhood of War" series. The Lieutenants, The Captains, The Majors, The Colonels...... Just fantastic historical fiction. I read the lieutenants three times and then told my folks I wasn't going to college, I enlisted. Butterworth's series was the best Leadership Academy out there. Everytime I finished one of his books, I'd go get a fresh flat-top the next day and have new lines to use on my squad.
  18. It certainly makes like easier when God locks that compass on true north and makes it pretty darn clear what's right and what's not right. I've lost all interest in your OA. The flaps won't be worn on our crew uniform and going forward I will not consider the OA calendar when scheduling Crew/Ship activities. Let's see, Sailing or Shooting Sports or some OA work detail, what will they choose, hmmmmmmm. Ok, I'm done now. Not another peep on this subject from me.
  19. Twice last week I heard a different person whining about the lask of participation from both the youth and adult OA members at the last few events. Nobody's feelings are hurt, nobody's self esteem is crushed, I just think it would be beneficial to open your arms to the female scouts whose pocket strips say "Venturing BSA" or "Sea Scouts BSA". Your stance is not fighting the good fight.
  20. dana, after you submit your message, let the computer take you back. I think your immediately hitting that link "click here if your computer does not automatically transfer you". Give it some more time to take you back and your double postings will hopefully stop.(This message has been edited by Trail Pounder)
