  1. We're brand new. We're small. Backpacking, shooting, climbing, skiing, scuba were all mentioned activities. We have to crawl first, but the new Pres with very limited Scouting background is active in planning our first trek. My thought is that after completing a 15-20 mile 2 day backpacking trip, the crew would endure, blisters, sore feet, sore legs, sore back, a lot of sweat, a lot of wishing they were elsewhere etc. I'm thinking this "Comaraderie of Pain" will create some team spirit and help us recruit just by doing this.
  2. Could you not wear the Pro Marksman medals on that temporary left pocket?
  3. Hi Alaska, Was that the same shelf the frequency grease is on? Pounder
  4. What type of activities will challenge 14-20 year olds the most? What activities do successful Venturing Crews do that bring others into the Crew? How often does your Crew go on a weekend Backpacking Trek? How far?
  5. OGE, I got sent out for 100 ft of shoreline. I found nylon rope, hemp rope, twine, bungie cord, but never did find that shoreline.
  6. Why do homosexual God-haters spend so much time at Scouter.com? Pounder
  7. Fat Old Buddy, I don't think there is a RE in Iraq. Pounder
  8. I think it's about time we start a campaign condemning the United Way. Between the pulling of support for Scouting and the way the charity conned the American people regarding the fund raising post 911, I'm done giving to the United Way, and I'll tell 10 people, who'll tell 10 people.....
  9. Jamie, I'm going to send you my journal from a backpacking overnighter I took with my twin 5 year olds this summer. Hope it helps.
  10. Hops, Why don't you set a date and time for a chatfire? Pounder
  11. Is it resentment from the boys in the troop or from the adults? It appears that all the Bronze, Gold, Silver, Ranger awards require some amount of instructing and teaching. Who better to share with and use as your class the then Troop. Pounder(This message has been edited by Trail Pounder)
  12. Our new Crew and our Troop meet on different nights. We are joined at the hip. The Troop's SM is my Associate Advisor, as I serve as his ASM. Works like a charm. The Crew Backpaced in June. 8 miles the first day and 7 the second. The Troop camped at each location the Crew backpacked to. Worked perfectly. Hops, when's the first game? Good luck with the football career and congrats on passing that BOR!!!! Pounder
  13. Our Venturing Crew is chartered by our American Legion Post. We are extremely happy being associated with such a fabulous organization. I can't even imagine having to deal with a school or church bureacracy. I've witnessed our local troop having to deal with a minister who was having a bad day. Not good. The Vets are just super accomodating and as they are getting older they have asked the Crew for more help with Post things, ie moving furniture, painting, sweeping the parking lot. Happy Happy Happy with our CO. Pounder
  14. Has anyone tried any of the different omelets the trail food makers offer? A lightweight Western Omelet sounds like just the ticket after a day lugging a backpack on the trail. I'm going to buy some instead of making my own for my next trip in September and am curious about others experiences eating them, please. Pounder
  15. We're an American Legion Troop. Every Color Guard we've done we've had ceremonial '03's on both sides of the flags. Are we wrong? Trail
  16. Our crew adopted the grey 6 pocket field trousers (I won't call them bdu's). They are perfect. Grey Ripstop cotton coupled with a $27 price tag.
